I'm not saying it's a bad game, in fact it's a great game, but it's not even the best Final Fantasy game, let alone the best game ever.

Will people finally admit that Zelda OOT is overrated?
I think most people are more than willing to admit to both at this point. Both games were show stoppers for their time, but there were plenty of better games before and since their releases.
A lot of people say FFVI > FFVII
A lot of people say LttP > OoT
If anything, this topic is years late.
Sweenix, this is one battle you cannot win. Games that were ground breakers during their time will never be admitted to being overrated.
Wait what is the meaning of this topic? did SE announce a FF7 Remake or something?
i just dont get the point of talking about FF7 now and saying "will people finally admit"?? its sounds like the game is coming back or something :o
please tell me PS4 is getting FF7 remake?
FFVII is the best FF for me.
The only two issues I have with the game are its outdated graphics (something that isn't entirely its fault) and the fact that it is incredibly easy (but so are a crapton of other JRPGs, so eh).
That being said, while it is my favorite FF, it is not my favorite JRPG. I'd give that to the first two Golden Sun games, or Chrono trigger.
If so many people can feel so passionately about it to this day it definitely isn't overrated. Obviously it has aged poorly graphically but I played through it again recently in its entirety and had a blast. A task I wouldn't have undertaken if my love for the game was purely fueled by nostalgia.

Final Fantasy 7 is rumored to being remade
Good question, why WON'T people admit that their tastes and opinions are wrong and conform to a single unified opinion that's been decided by someone else. WHAT IS THIS MADNESS???

Well said. Also, the game obviously isn't that good. I mean it's only been like 17 years since it released and threads are still being made about it.
Game has a special place in my heart being the first time I was exposed to a JRPG. People will never stop calling it the best FF ever and no matter how annoying it is people will never stop asking for a remake on ever single ff topic.
isnt overrated the term used by people who can't understand that other people like or in this case prefer something they don't. Get over it.
I used to be on that bandwagon till I played the game in 2010 and it blew me away. Easily one of the best games I have played in my life even though I already knew most of the story before playing it. FF7 it's just so dark and interesting that is hard to resist. Not to mention the music it's super unique too. The game's a masterpiece really and I'm the type of guy that tends to hate on popular things.
The materia system, the ecological themes, love triangle, the super hard bosses, the side-quests (in particular the gold chocobo one, very long but very rewarding and even then you'll still have a hard time beating Ruby) this game is so fucking good. The industrial art gives it a very believable touch too... You can easily get lost in this world like in no other JRPG that I have ever played.
FF 6 > 9 > 7 > 10 > 8 > the others. I never played 1-3, but 12 and 13 are probably the most unremarkable ones and at the end of my list.
(All IMO of course).
On topic: No, FF7 was and still remains fantastic.
Never played the game yet and to be honest with every gameplay video that I have seen of the game I probably wouldn't get into it anyways. But that said you have to give the game credit because like it or not FF7 was the reason why jrpgs become popular outside of Japan in the first place. Before FF7 they would all sell very little if it wasn't in Japan. I mean the FF II(IV) and FF III(VI) were considered good games and yet sold very poorly in the West and that goes with other jrpgs at the time until FF7 showed up which made jrpgs a bigger market in the Western countries. So overrated or not it did leave a huge impact.
No it wasnt for too many reasons.
Its scale was immersive for its time considering was the first full 3D game of the series ( sort of anyways ) , story was interesting , memorable characters ( thats the most important this in an RPG imho ) that even now after 17-18 years gamers recognize , the first FF that introduced massive and well done CGI for story telling , very nice and cool skills in game first time in 3D looked amazing ( summons ) , nice explorations and things to find , alot of hours in order to beat the game 100% ...so many more things.
How it was so overated for you , i dont get it? Masterpeice ? Well compared to older FFs or games like Chrono maybe not , but a tremendously good game? for sure
EDIT : Lets not forget we talking about an old game here , not a game of 2014. It had a huge impact back then but if you play it now ... maybe you wont even bother with it and find it "weak". So take that into consideration. Game is almost 18 years old
It's revolutionary. Maybe that's why it's praised so much and why the general gaming world will never admit that it's overrated? I've been replaying it on PC and it's still a fine game tbh....
FF6 >>>>>>>>> FF7

Actually it was the best Final Fantasy game, sir.
What's Final Fantasy 7?
Congratulations, the try-hard Hipster award is on route to you!
Game was always overrated, even on release.
Most people only loved FF7 because it was their first RPG, it was the first popular FF in the west and the first to transitionate from 2d to 3d graphics, thats why people went nuts over it.
The plot was bad, it was full of recycled cliches and even concepts from previous FF games, the fact that a lot of people went over to say that it was the greatest plot in a FF game because they killed a main character shows that they knew nothing about the franchise, since FF has killed main characters since FF2, pretty much everyone in that game who wasn't part of the 3 main party members died in some horrible way.
Same goes for FFIV and FFV it had been done before, and to a much bigger extent.
Final Fantasy 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 are some of the best games I have ever played. None of them are overrated. All deserve a solid 9-10 score. Go back in your basement
Of course not but the majority of fans of ff7 are only fans because it was their first jrpg so who listens to their opinion in the first place? I know I certainly don't.
ff6 was the superior game and It wasn't my first jrpg.
why the hell do you keep making non-system war threads about crap nobody cares about?
FF7 is the most popular and remembered, shove your "highest score" where the sun doesnt shine,. scores mean next to nothing.
SE has already determined themselves it's an overrated game. FFX get top priority apparently looking at Vita and PS3 HD versions.

That probably has more to do with the fact that FFX would be a much easier game to remake. It not having blocky graphics and all.
@silversix_: No worse of a crime than never having played a single entry in the series.
I just bought FF6 to pop that cherry.
I've never beat the game, but loved the first disc (PS1). I think it deserves every bit of praise it gets.
Those that are wondering, I keep getting stuck at the start of the second disc where you are on the world map for the first time. Where the hell are you supposed to go?
