Like Epic have said PS4 is like a gaming PC. And other devs say its more like a PC architecture that's easy to develop for. Well with that being said, will we be seeing games on both these platforms more often? If a game is made for the PS4 it will be easy for devs to port games over to PC or vice versa.

I think indie games will take over Godstation and the Master Race.

He meant architecture wise. Other than that its no different to any other console, it makes development easier so I suppose more indie games and better games in general is a possibility.... BUT, far from a gaming PC as it cannot emulate the genres.... or have mod support anywhere near close ect.

We shouldn't see many if at all PC/360 exclusives(lol) and that's all that matters by golly.

In a sense, yeah, we'll finally get rid of that horrible bottleneck of console centered multiplats due to the ancient hardware, thus we'll finally see games taking advantage of PC hardware without the need to graphically mod them ourselfs. Obviously exclusives are out of the equation.

I think yes they probably will help each other. While the ps4 still will struggle with some genres, the possiblities will be expanded slightly. And on the PC front there may be a few less lazy console ports resulting in some even better pc games.

What multiplats are on the PS3 that didn't get ported to the PC, too? Other than the sports franchises, you can probably count them on one hand. I would expect the same will be the case with the PS4. If you have a gaming PC, exclusives are really just about the only reason to buy any console.

I think we will see more support from SOE with making PC/PS4 multiplats. We can pretty much guarantee Planetside 2 will be on PS4 once its out

That could have happened this gen too.PC versions were ported from xbox 360,not ps3.

Unless most devs get an incentive for working more on the PC version,I doubt it will happen.

PS3 didn't get games like Mass Effect and Splinter Cell until later on. There are a lot of game son XBL and steam that the PS3 didn't get because it was the hardest platform to port games on.

I think what you mean is that PS4 will up the (graphics) standards for cross-platform games and make game development and porting easier.

But both systems will continue having their own exclusives.

Oh, well, yeah, the PS4 should be getting more games early into next gen than the PS3 did. I don't think there will be a whole lot of change on the PC front, though. It already gets just about everything and will continue to do so.

games will not be devloped first on consoles no more.  Games will be made on PC then ported and downscaled to console.

Yes, particularly good for PC since the PS4 has PC-like architecture, dodgy PC ports wouldn't happen anymore. It ensures that games are of high quality on both platforms.

Sony has made a wise decision in their choice of PS4 architecture.

When a company makes a game for one or the other it's essentially like coding for one system to have it on both.

Of course.

The PS4 will gain modern Pc hardware + MMO's + MOBAS + Free to play games + more indies + games that might have been Pc exclusives - because it's going to adapt Pc hardware and PC market strategies to it's plaform, as the consoles did last generation.

The PC will benefit because ports should be of higher quality, and anyone that isn't being payed by Sony is much more likely to port to the PC.

I am afraid not. The Japanese are arses, they almost don´t port games to PC. Xbox was always supporting PC better.

As far as the thread at hand, yes you will see better ports across all the platforms, 720, ps4, and pc.  Now that consoles are more in line with pc like architecture, we might see the pc be the lead platform most of the time, if not, more than usual if Thief 4 and Watchdogs is any indication.

Also, this time around, sony's platform won't miss out on some awesome multiplats it missed out this gen, because if you think back, compared to both pc and 360, ps3 is the one that got shunned when it came to multiplats.

I sincerely hope devs start with the PC and port to the PC-like console architecture second. I think it will result in a better experience for everyone.

Well they helped the 360 out a lot, but that was more in a situation where it was really only worth it to put a game on Xbox and the PC. Games like Minecraft, Left 4 Dead, Splinter Cell Conviction, etc etc all sold many millions of copies on the 360, so if someone was a console-only gamer it doesn't really matter if the games were on PC; those games helped drive 360 sales.

Next gen the Xbox will most likely still use a similar-to-PC architecture, and what would have been PC/360 multiplats this gen will be PC/Xbox/PS4 multiplats next gen, so I doubt PS4 and PC will help each other.

You guys are funny. Just because a PC gamer also owns a 360 and prefers it over the PS3 doesn't mean they are hiding behind the PC. There are plenty of PC gamers that prefer the PS3 (like me) and make it known. We are talking about everyday run-of-the-mill cows who use the PC when it benefits them and then turn around and sh!t on the PC when it doesn't.

Not the way some might think, but the similar architecture between PC, PS4 and the next Xbox will have positive ramifications for all three platforms.

Here is a quote from an article on the subject:

"With the PlayStation 4 spec already announced and details on Microsoft's next Xbox expected soon, we may see an unprecedented unification of underlying hardware architectures shortly. The two major consoles and roughly half of the PC market will be based on x86-compatible processors and GCN-derived GPUs. Robison argued this trend will be positive for all involved because it should let game developers focus on creating content, not on worrying about architectural limitations or differences.

Analyst Rob Enderle then took the stage to elaborate on that point. He claimed the gaming market has been negatively impacted by the current generation of consoles outstaying their welcome. However, with the move to x86 processors and Radeon graphics, Enderle believes the console makers could introduce new generations of consoles more often while maintaining compatibility with older software. He also thinks the use of a common graphics architecture across platforms will reduce the cost, and thus risk, of creating AAA games with rich visuals, mostly because a large chunk of development costs today goes to porting between platforms."

I think the PS4 and Nextbox will flip roles. IE, the PS4 is console that will share the biggest library with the PC.

PS4 will still get Japanese support though. I'm actually hoping what we'll see change next gen is a large influx of Japanese devs porting their games to PC for Western audiences as well.

I've noticed how games like Thief, Watchdogs, Battlefield 4 etc are all developed for PC first and later ported to consoles, I've read that this trend will continue and it's a great sign for gamers, more quality games for anyone!
