[QUOTE="Trmpt"] If you tweak a graphics card to get more out of it then it is now a custom card. Trmpt

No its called toying with an initial core, not customisation.

You are tweaking it to meet your personal needs, how is that not customization?

Depends on what context. Because in hardware terms, the RSX is off-the-shelf design. The Xenos on the other hand was designed from the ground up for the 360.

The point is that the RSX, no matter how much it was tweaked, is still custom for the PS3.

They kept on whining about losing $ on every unit sold like a little *bleep* with the PS3. Why even go custom made when the cell is NO more powerful than your average PC today infact it's alot worse. The PS3 cant even play Crysis and you'd think it would be able to as much as Sony hyped "THE CELL":lol:Michael324

I thought you wanted to talk about custom GPU's....

Did you forget? Or did you not know that the Cell isn't the GPU? Oh dear....

Then in that case just about anything on Earth is custom, because a small change means a complete redesign:?

I guess my truck is custom because it has one of a kind signatures drawn in dirt.

There's definitly more to it then that, they added a turbocache type of deal so the rsx can read and write the system memory since it wasn't going to be a strong card to begin with, the CELL can just render somethings which is what sony had in mind. Its got a different bus interface so 128bit might not be as significan't as most would think, since, i believe it transfers quite a bit faster on teh flex io bus. And ps3 is working purely with opengl, so they probably changed the core aroudn so they wouldn't need directx compatiblity, so the microcode probably won't have many similarities to a 7k series.

Its still a tweaking of an existing design. The Cell despite being based off core PowerPC architecture is regarded a custom CPU as their is little on the market like it. The RSX however is very much a G70.

Customised =/= Custom Design

If I put rims on my truck that would make it be of custom design and customization. They are the same thing in that sense. And I didnt say that, referring to your other post, something had to be of complete custom design to have custom characteristics, you did. My point is that something can be labeled as customized without being built from scratch.

I think the real question is "Will Sony even MAKE a PS4?"

You mean custom CPU? I hope not, it seems to just hold devs back.

The cell is actually pretty powerful, but all the other parts bottleneck it.

And every console this gen has a custom GPU.

Exactly why the PS4 should be sick. In fact, I'm looking to upgrade the parts in my PS3. Dunno how hard that'll be but definitely worth a try
