We're getting the boomerang next gen.
gbpackers94
If this is the next gen controller I'm giving up gaming.
Just move over to PC gaming, then you can use any controller that you wish to use. This topic is locked from further discussion.

They should. PS3 controller design is now 16 years old!!!

Is that really a problem? I mean just cause something is old doesint mean it has to change if it works.
Except that it only work if you've never used a 360 controller. I can never go back to the Dual shock now.[QUOTE="finalfantasy94"][QUOTE="PAL360"]

True... if they just switched the analogs the PS controller would be fine. You only need the d-pad in that spot for fighters. I really dislike the first gen PS3 controllers though, they were way too light without the rumble.

Also it seems like the Dualshock 3 is for people with smaller hands. If I play for more than a few hours my hands start to cramp up. I had the same problem with PSP too.
So far, Sony is the only company which does not update thier controller every gen. Both Microsoft and Nintendo have been updating thier controllers every gen, mostly improving ergenomics, Microsoft now has I think made the most comfortable controller, just infront of the GC pad last gen.
However, with motion controls comming to the forground, and Sony attempting to create it's own wiimote/nunchuck, do you think they might embrace motion controls next gen and make these controllers standard? If so, it'll be the first real controller change for Sony... ever.

Personally, I think the Playstation 1, 2 & 3 controller has been excellent. Especially, the Dualshock 3 which is similar to the Sixaxis but has bit more heft or weight, makes it MORE of a controller. A good comparison would be is to a Car Door that is "American" & a Car Door that is "European." You can feel & tell the discernible thunk with the European version over the American version. Those who know what I'm talking about rejoice but those who are..... well..... being ignorant can suck it or are probably Red Necks :P (The smiley face with the tongue out is a joke......).
why should they change the design cept from some ergonomic tweaks which some complain about thats all that sshould really change as its become an iconic design piece and does its job well so why change it all together that is just stupid.
Its like most well designed things those tend to stand the test of time i mean look at how the Les Paul has been revised over the years in diffrent ways to make it a better guitar all sony needs to do is update it every gen to make it feel good aswell as keeping the userbase content and ache free.

It needs to change as the thumb sticks are the worst, not to mention the squashy triggers. It was fine last gen when the 2nd thumb stick was hardly used on the PS2. Most games had locked cameras, now with fully moving cameras its a royal pain to keep your thumbs in the same place poking each other.[QUOTE="finalfantasy94"][QUOTE="PAL360"]

Its just perfence/opinion. I just dont get why people cant get that.
I think if it aint broke dont fix it, tho I wouldnt mind something along the lines of adjustable analog tension to improve fighters. So I dont have to wear my thumb raw playing with the d-pad. As for playing any other genre I have never had a problem with the controller, be it cramping or other pains. So far, Sony is the only company which does not update thier controller every gen. THE D shock is a great controller!!! the controller has change just not in shape.
The only thing Sony needs to fix with the Dualshock design is:
1) The triggers (make them more like the Xbox 360 triggers).
2) Make the controller more egronomic, you don't have to totally redesign it but the grips could fit in your hand a bit better.
I'm now using an unofficial Madcatz one. The triggers are WAY better and the controller is slightly wider for a better fit.
Well, Sony upgraded to the Dualshock late into the PS1's lifetime, and it carried over to the PS2. I'd think that constitutes as an update. And they were going to make the boomerang PS3 controller, but everyone hated it (I thought it looked quite awesome) ^.^ And now they have the Move...So far, Sony is the only company which does not update thier controller every gen. The controller needs to be a tad larger and the analog sticks need to be tightened up a bit. Otherwise it's just fine.
I would love the next Ps3 controller to be like the 360 controller i like the way the 360 controller feels so much better. Its not even close.
[QUOTE="Cherokee_Jack"]^ The Dualshock was a good design from the beginning. The original Xbox controllers just sucked, so they needed to change them.Mark36111I'd rather play a shooter with the original Xbox "fat" than any version of the dual shock. I've never used the original Xbox controller for shooters, but I know the DS 3 is the best game pad for shooters that I've ever used.
They are triggers. The Dualshock 2 had shoulder buttons and the Dualshock 3 has triggers, they're different.I think it's funny that everyone keeps calling R2/L2 'triggers' they aren't triggers for crying out loud.
Kiljoy66
^ Why do people seem to think that they are triggers?dkjestrupBecause they are. They're designed differently from regular shoulder buttons.
if it aint broke dont fix it.... the dualshock is and has been the best controller for a decade now IMO
I hope they DONT
I dont see anything wrong with it.
Its so comfortable, the Dpad is awesome, the sticks are symmetrical and my hands rest perfectly in that position, the TOX[] bbuttons are big and flat..perfect. And I dont know WTF all this talk about your finger slipping of the R/L2 buttons are because that is absolutely retarded.
Im not even gonna talk with other designs..

Thats exactly what the controller i'm using is :-)
