So is the Killer Instinct seasons like League of Legend seasons?
Maybe KI should just try be LoL to every other 2D Fighter's Dota.

Why are people so concerned with Street Fighter killing off Killer Instinct? The way I see it, all three console makers have their exclusive fighting game franchises. Nintendo has Smash Bros, Microsoft has Killer Instinct, and Sony has Street Fighter.
The only real difference is that Nintendo and Microsoft own their franchises while Sony had to buy the exclusive rights to Street Fighter.
But I see nothing but good things for fighting game fans in the future. Evo is going to be an awesome event this year, and here's the thing. Killer Instincit is going to be played at this year's evo.
It will never be as big as Street Fighter, but this question is stupid anyway. Its like asking of Call of Duty will crush Killzone, Doom, or Halo. Street Fighter is the most popular fighting game on the franchise. Even Smash Brothers which has become wildly popular at events like Evo can't top it.
This topic is nothing more then flame bait of the highest order. Killer Instinct is relevant because its at evo. And this is coming from somebody who does not play the game!
Why do people care so much about Street Fighter now that it's not on Xbone?
You know the reason for that...it's because people now want to / can use it as a political football in the system wars.
@SolidGame_basic: What's left of KI is a very strong and dedicated community. Right now there's 25k people watching the KI tournament on Twitch, and Maximillian Dood has the biggest fighting game channel on Youtube and is huge on Twitch and he loves KI and even works with them on the game. SFV will be a far bigger game but they'll still be plenty of people playing KI.
KI is more than relevant and will remain so even after SFV comes out
This.
People are seemingly looking for KI to fail just because it is an MS game, not realizing that many people play it, and at the moment that this thread was created, 10's of thousands of people were watching the Killer Instinct World Cup. KI won't die, it will only get bigger and better. Know that at the KI Cup it was revealed that the Cup would be retuning next year and expanding in scope, not to mention that more "Kombo Klashes" were announced for this coming year.
SFV will be huge (not as huge as MKX, but still big) and further more, Capcom / Sony's 'Capcom Cup' will be wildly successful for the FGC as they are pumping tons of marketing and money in to the events, thus bring "esports" to fighting games in a big way. I only have an Xbox One, and even though I'm not a big SF fan (in that I really don't care to play the game), even I am looking forward to SFV's release just to watch the competition.
I will be playing KI (and maybe some MK), and I would be doing the same even if I had a PC or PS4 to play SFV. Tons of people play other games. Not everyone plays SF.
I can't finish reading this thread because a lot of the users are uneducated on the manner. KI is plenty healthy among the online and tournament community. KI Cup recently wrapped up and they announced there will be one for next year and the year after. The game is coming to PC and season 3 is among us. While SFV will be the bigger tournament game, it's not going to erase KI from the fgc.
Also, there are more than 12 people playing KI lol. If you played you'd know it only takes a couple of seconds to find a ranked match and play the same people once in a blue moon.
I'm enjoying reading some of the pro-KI responses in this thread, like I said earlier KI has fostered a nice passionate community.
No it is not a threat to the more popular, higher-profile SF5, but it really does not need to be as KI is a great playing fighter offline and online that is enjoyed by many people.
@wolverine4262: I don't understand what you mean when you say KI is "mindless." It's incredibly taxing, mentally. But, I do agree with you when you imply that multiple fighters can be successful. Personally, I'm thinking MKX, SFV and KI are going to be the big three pretty soon. All of them are phenomenal, and each is extremely unique when compared with the other two.
Also, funnily enough, all three are only available on two of the three core platforms, and none of them is available on the same two as any other. So, owners of each platform get two of the big three to play.
MKX: PS4 and XB1 (**** you, WB)
SFV: PS4 and PC
KI: PC and XB1
But seriously about KI. Don't underestimate it. Watch EVO 2015 and try not to shit your pants. That game is mindblowingly intense.
@Alucard_Prime: The major obstacle in the way of KI is that it takes a lot of practice before you even feel like you can play the game. New players suck at MKX and SF, but they don't have to know they suck until they reach a rank that pits them against people who are clearly better than they are. The complexities of MKX and SF don't become necessary until you're playing people good enough to make them necessary. KI's complexities are necessary day 1.
I've invited my girlfriend (non-gamer) to play all three with me. She thought MKX was great. She was okay with SF. After two minutes of KI she said "looks cool, but **** this."
This anecdote explains the sizes of the fanbases to some degree. MKX easily has the largest fan base/player base (it's a mainstream game AND a fighter--tons of people play it without even knowing what EVO is). SFV is probably the biggest in the FGC, but small compared to mainstream games. KI occupies a niche with a hyper-fanatic fan base.
It seems like this game is on the verge to becoming the de facto king of fighters this gen. Can Killer Instinct hang on and still remain relevant? I ask you SW since you know all.
It's currently destroying SFV, so it looks like it will continue to destroy it. KI2 is curb stomping SFV right now, and it looks like KI3 is upping the ante yet again. The question is, will SFVI make SF relevant again? More than likely it will be on all 3 platforms and it won't matter anyway.
KI is the much better game right now. And that's a shame considering how big the Street Fighter brand got. Between the exclusive deal and how rushed SFV was, I think we are seeing one of the biggest examples of mismanagement of a franchise in modern gaming.
SF been a dime a dozen, KI on the other hand is one in a million. :P
Like I said back then.... :P
I don't know, will Street Fighter V crush whatever is left of KoF, Guilty Gear, Mortal Kombat, etc too? Are we just naming random fighters Street Fighter V will crush?
Just because Street Fighter exists, people can't enjoy other fighters? Why can't people play both. I think on the PC it could grow in popularity. I've held out for the PC version so I could use the SF4 pad with it.
It's childish fanboy nonsense, just because it's a MS ip. If it was multiplat it wouldn't even get this shit. In contrast Mortal Kombat, which is the weakest in the fighting genre, gets left alone just because it's a multiplat, MK has always had the most worst fighting mechanics in comparison to most of it's peers.
I knew this thread look mighty familiar, I can see my 2 month post and this is a damn Necro Thread you guys!

Dude don't bump a 2 month old thread. Just make another one if you want to talk about it.
@rykeut: Yeah and it doesn't take me long to come across lvl 50s lol, I had to practice quite a bit just to get average. I often give those lvl 50s a run for their money now though, but it's rare I win lol.
@Alucard_Prime: Also the "requalify" feature doesn't make the game any easier. I hit level 50s who are just shitbags about their stats and requalify through the lower ranks, then they stroke themselves on a double ultra + taunt supreme victory.
If we're comparing these games, KI probably facilitates salt and bm the most.
And I love it so, so much.
I don't think is going to crush KI, i think KI will be relevant for a few years more at least...is actually getting pretty solid...
However, at the end of the day, it won't hold a candle to SFV, the game will grow far much than KI in less time, the competitive scene is crazy about the game, and with EVO and Capcom Cup being a thing, it will only help to grow SFV...so yeah, KI won't even touch SFV, maybe it won't even touch the new KOF in terms of relevance.
I didn't realize how badly SFV (77) was getting decimated by Killer Instinct (85 metacritic). That is just plain embarrassing for Capcom and Sony. The user reviews at 32 are just the nail in the coffin. I hope this doesn't deter Capcom from releasing SFVI. Granted, that they probably learned from the dismal sales on PS4 to not go console exclusive again. The good thing is, with Killer Instinct 3, it no doubt even shadows KI2, and we can all get it on Microsoft Windows or Microsoft Xbox One.
SFV is complete floppage, but can always make a comeback next time. RIP SFV,

is killer instinct currently relevant?
I'm not sure it ever was. No one talks about it outside a few lems here.
KI is pretty dead, there is nothing to crush
The funny thing is, KI keeps growing and growing each year. In fact, they had gotten so big that they finally started tournaments. Twitch was also off the hook with viewers during the tournament. 20,000+. And with the PC release, it's crazy how busy the game is now.
Everyone knows SFV crushed KI in every way possible.
Its only crushing it in not being able to play against the CPU.
You can play against the CPU in the survival mode in SFV.

Side Note: Its pretty sad when your world cup is pulling division numbers
To me it seems SV5 ironically hurt itself...
People need to stop hating on/underestimating KI because I see more and more people playing it and the series is slowly gaining momentum.

Well, can you blame them for being upset? Tanked sales, and flop for a score. But yes, they should just learn to PLAY the game and appreciate it instead of cry about it.
Just a side note, SolidGame_Basic made this thread 2 months ago before SFV was release to the world, everyone thought that SFV was gonna outshine KI but SFV hurt itself in the long run, so basically KI just won this victory by default due to SFV lack on content at launch.
