People fail to understand how successfull wow really is compared to every other MMO No other subscription based MMO even has 1.5 million active players on it right now aside from Wow. So before Wow came out and even now really if new MMOs even hit 500 k plus that is still a big success (sustained memebers that is) A good example is Square Enix with Final Fantasy 11. It makes a ton of money still to this day for SE but it only has 500 k players.

My point is SWTOR will be a big success and it does not need to sell 10 million to be a big success, but anyone that thinks that it will take out Wow is just killing themsleves. Wow is like the Walmart of MMO games. Wow is very easy, low system specs, and the regular monsters in the game almost can't kill you. That given wow is here to stay.

I think its a good thing becuase all the casuals will stay on wow and more hardcore players will go to SWTOR, and FF 14. Just the way I like it.

SWTOR is already confirmed to be a very casual game, which is part of the draw for me. Hardcore in MMO = fail and most people who are hardcore aren't even good enough to compete with the top 20 but want to be hardcore for reasons unknown to me.

If by dying to you mean getting more subscribers than ever then yea, it's dying.

Espada12

WoW hasn't been getting more subscribers since the end of 2008.

Wow's subscription base jumped again with WOTLK... and will jump again with Cata...if the trend continues...

The release of the MMO's second expansion,Wrath of the Lich King, is credited as fueling this rise in subscribers.

That in no way counters what I said. Also, expansions always temporarily inflate subscriber base as people who quit come back to try the new stuff.

It counters it because the sub base increases with every xpac, if the sub base wasn't increasing the numbers could not be inflated because there would not be any new people to replace the people that left and inflate the number to a greater one than it was before....

It increases but not permanently. People quit and when a new expansion comes out they start playing again until they get bored and quit again. They've been at 11.5 million for almost two years now.

What numbers after 2008 have they given to back up this statement?

Also id like to add Warcraft/Starcraft is a bigger franchise with PC gamers than ANY Star wars game ever made. Is star wars a huge franchise? Sure...but when it comes to gaming more people know Blizzard will put out quality than another licenced star wars game. Peopel are still trying to get the bad taste out of their mouths from Star wars galaxies...

How did that sell in relation to WoW? Exactly.

No, I don't think it will kill WoW. I can see it getting a million or two in subs but nothing that will kill WoW. WoW has become ingrained in pop culture. It's going to take something truly market shattering to kill WoW.

Well according to VGchartz the original WoW sold 12m copies, BC at 6.5m and WotLK sold 5.25m. At least you can compare them relatively and as you can see WoW is dying in that sense, they probably still rake in the money with all these new payment features.

WoW is definitely getting less and less people for every new expansion, I seriously doubt Cataclysm is going to change the direction in which it is heading towards atm.

Star Wars MMO, maybe not as hot sounding as Pokemon MMO, but yeah it's still cool.

Lets see how it all plays out.

kontejner44

How is WoW dying because each expansion sold less? Not everyone buys the expansions especially people new to WoW. A good way to tell if WoW is growing or dying is by subscribers not how much the expansions sold.

Nothing can kill WoW but itself. SWTOR won't kill it. Stars Wars doesn't have as big of a gaming fanbase that Warcraft has.

I could see WoW temporarily losing some player base, but they'll come back.
