Are we gonna have this argument again Grant?:P Don't make me troll you on Skype like last time.

Zelda>GT, FACT :D

Naa, the argument was mainly focused on Zelda and half the time I was actually trolling him.:P

This sounds quite a lot like the arguments me and arach often have :P He keeps trolling me, keeps saying Zelda is overrated

I'm joking my friend :P

ActicEdge

I know, lol :P I was actually hoping to get an idea of how you find Link's Awakening :D

Didn't play that one. My Zelda knowledge is pretty much PH, ALttP, WW, TP, Minish Cap, 4 Swords and bits and pieces of other titles. I would frankly much rather play Metroid or Mario over Zelda.

Oh, you should really play that. That, along with Majora's Mask, is probably the most moving and well developed and well fleshed out game in the entire series.

Its not my problem, that's Nintendo's. They don't need to make the series relevant in the sense that it will come out sell 4 million copes and make tons of money but other then that if they want Zelda to be a premiere franchise again they have to figure something out to break this cycle of "monotomy" people seem to think Zelda has.

ActicEdge

"People" does not represent everyone. TP sold over 7 million copies and I have no doubt SS will do the same if not more. Sure new bells and whistles need to be added, but when dealing with a franchise that is as old and cherished as Zelda, one must be careful how much is changed to the game. Also, when did Zelda stop being a premiere franchise? What are some premiere franchises by System Wars standards?

Did I ever state otherwise :|

As far as changing Zelda goes I'm on the side that just wants a good game and doesn't care how its achieved. I feel that's about as fair as you can get. I however am talking about the vocal Zelda fanbase that actually cares about all the silly differences and such. They are the one's nintendo has to impress, because honestly, of the 7 million people that bought TP, I can probably safely say most of them enjoyed it at the very least. As far as being a premier franchise, Zelda pretty much stopped be a top series (in the sense of being "the best" not just being excellent) about the same time TP came out. May just be due to lack of console release but it hasn't been the top top franchise it was in the N64 days. Premier franchises by SW standards is better left to someone who for all purposes cares. I personally liked the game and don't really think most of what is "amazing" around here is actually all that amazing.

The vocal/hardcore Zelda fanboys can't be satisfied no matter what.

When they changed up the style in WW, they cried. When they made a practical Ocarina of Time homage in TP, they cried.

Zelda is probably my favorite franchise of all time, but the fanbase can be pretty unrealistic and unreasonable.

It wouldn't be the end of the world, just play The Last Guardian instead. The Witcher 2 is my backup in case it falls flat, it's not that similar but the adventure feeling is pretty close. But I highly doubt it's gonna fail, it's Nintendo for Christ's sake...

Oh, it would make me burn if Skyward Sword was flat out bad. Zelda represents a huge portion if my childhoos, my favorite game ever is a Zelda game... to mess around with Zelda would make me very, very pissed indeed. No other game can quite grip me like Zelda does. Sure, they're all good, but Zelda games, even the 'soulless' ones like Twilight Princess, have a magic that I find simply lacking in the other games. If Skyward Sword is bad, then I swear I will clone myself six billion times, and lead a mob of angry mes to storm Nintendo's office.

There has never been a legitimately "bad" Zelda game besides the CDi games. SS is not going to be the first. Also, TP was hardly soulless. It was lacking in areas but jeez, soulless is for titles like big rigs and robot rage. Its hardly for Zelda.

When I say soulless, I refer to the delightful whimsy of the earlier Zelda titles. Twilight Princess may have been an excellent game, but it lacked that. It lacked most of what made Zelda special, making it, to me at least, the weakest entry in the series, except for maybe Zelda II and Spirit Tracks (does FSA count as being a part of the main series?). I want SS to have that same charm that the earlier Zelda games had.

Sure but I mean this is SW, for the game not to be a disappointment here it basically has to accomplish the unrealistic. In real life all it has to dois be a good title which I'm positive it will be.

1. Has Skyward Sword been in development for 6 years? No.
2. Has Skyward Sword been hyped for 5 years straight by fanboys to epic proportions? No.
3. Are our expectations so high for the game, that no matter how much it delivers we won't be satisfied? No.

Skyward Sword is Nintendo's return from being humbled with Twilight Princess. Gran Turismo 5 is Polyphony Digital's humbling.

Zelda is definitely past its prime, but after the magnitude of Ocarina, it's never going to get its thunder back.

And beneath the surface, TP is actually a more expertly designed experience than other 3D Zeldas, and I think it should be praised for being such a well crafted video game.

The problem is that the "expertly designed" factor works against it in a weird way. The Zelda team has gotten so damn good at the formula that it feels a bit more mechanical than other Zelda games, almost like they are resting on their laurels.

I would be thrilled with a Majora-like curveball, but I don't think it's happening, so I'll just enjoy SS for what it is.

Look at the parellels- both are games in long running revered franchises (although I'll  at anyone who claims that GT as a franchise even comes close to Zelda), but GT5 was marked by having a notriously long development time, multiple delays, an almost absurd insistencce on perfection by the developers, and mixed messages being sent by the developers as to the game's final release date.

When the game launched, it was still a solid game, but it simply became the victim of its own hype- it could not live up to more than four years o expectations, that was realistically impossible.

Now let's look at Skyward Sword. The game has been in development since early 2005, meaning it's been in development for six long years. It's suffered two unofficial delays already, and another one looks impending, considering Miyamoto recently said that the game was 'just over half done,' barely a month after he said that development on the new Zelda game was 'going gangbusters,' and just a few months after he said that the game would have been done if they were using TP's graphical engine.

Also, Nintendo has, on several occassions, insisted that Skyward Sword will be the biggest, best Zelda game yet, and that it will only be released when it's 'perfect.'

See the parellels? Are we looking at another GT5-esque crash and burn here? Will the game be crippled by the weight of its own expectations? What do you guys thing?charizard1605

Whatever parallels there are, they are outweighed by the differences.

GT5 was announced at PS3 launch, right? So between announcement and release, people knew about the game for 4 years. For SS, we had one picture, one picture, for one year. Now all we have is a trailer. SS might have been a "GT5" if Nintendo had announced it earlier.

On another note, GT5 had competition with Forza. While GT5 was gettng pushed back, two Forzas were released (and with AAA scores). GT5 had to beat Forza(s), otherwise that would be a flop in itself. Zelda does not have such competition (that I'm aware of). The only thing it has to compete against is itself.

I don't think anyone is going to overhype SS that much after what happened with TP. Hopefully fans will have learnt ther lesson.

Anything developed by Capcom isn't main series so no. Capcom still made some awesome Zelda games though. But anyway, I am on the side of the fence that thinks Zelda should stay bright and colourful because that's what makes it so distinctive but hey, we don't all share that opinion. SS is wait and see, we haven't seen anything yet really. I don't know why they showed the game with an area that won't resemble the game at all. Seems dumb to me.

holy link!:o

There is a reason why they were disappointed with WW's art $tyle hell almost EVERYONE was surprised by it and probably half of them got mad.:P Most of the hardcore Zelda fans were spoiled by the amazing OoT and wanted a sequel to the Adult Link, which they did not get until TP, (even if it wasn't a direct sequel, more like an homage) so I don't really remember many bashing Nintendo about TP until after it's release, that too with good reason. They wanted a dark Zelda, like how the OoT did it with the 7 years into the future thing.:P (and I was one of them:P)

Well, as for that, it's because the unveil was supposed to be all about the new control scheme, a gran reveal of what would make this Zelda game different from all the ones that have come so far. Well, that didn't really pan out all that well, did it? :P

EDIT: Apparently, FSA wasn't developed by Capcom, it was Nintendo.

EDIT 1.2: Also, it seems that all Capcom developed titles are canon, to the extent that the Four Sword is actually supposed to be the precursor to the Master Sword.

Yeah exactly what I was thinking.. In fact theres been way more hate on SS then there has been hype.. If there has been any at all that is. I wouldnt be surprised if its hyped as AA... And This BETTER not be Nintendos Gt5... Twilight Princess and PH was almost more disappointment than I could take.. I couldn't handle any more let downs from Zelda.. This game NEEDS to be amazing.

WW was great but the sailing got tedious and ESPECIALLY during the hunt for the pieces of the triforce WHICH was totally a PAIN in the arse because it PISSED me off!:x

Meh, the epic's that have come out this gen haven't been all that epic. People are just too easily impressed by that kind of thing imo. Nothing epic about GTA4 yet its one of the highest rated games ever. They come out, are the greatest thing ever and then fade into obscurity. Meh to that.

[QUOTE="charizard1605"]This sounds quite a lot like the arguments me and arach often have :P He keeps trolling me, keeps saying Zelda is overrated  :cry:GreySeal9

Well he is right, Zelda's past it's prime since WW was out.:P

I totally agree with you and yes, I will be doing the same thing.:) My only concern is the story and if there will be any twists that will just make me smile and remember it till the end of time.:) (wow that was cheesy:P)

There has never been a legitimately "bad" Zelda game besides the CDi games. SS is not going to be the first. Also, TP was hardly soulless. It was lacking in areas but jeez, soulless is for titles like big rigs and robot rage. Its hardly for Zelda.

ActicEdge

Saying TP was soulless is simply wrong, however saying it was borrowing quite a bit of it's soul from OoT isn't.:P TP was wonderful and it had a ton of character, (Midna comes in mind, despite me not really liking her) and the story, despite being rather predictable, was still top notch.:)

SS won't be bad, Nintendo won't ever do that to any of it's premium franchises, but don't expect it to beat out some of the epic's coming out next year "easily".:P

Meh, the epic's that have come out this gen haven't been all that epic. People are just too easily impressed by that kind of thing imo. Nothing epic about GTA4 yet its one of the highest rated games ever. They come out, are the greatest thing ever and then fade into obscurity. Meh to that.

Different strokes for different folks Actic, stop hatin' at the fact that LBP is better than Yoshi's Island X10.

The vocal/hardcore Zelda fanboys can't be satisfied no matter what.

When they changed up the style in WW, they cried. When they made a practical Ocarina of Time homage in TP, they cried.

Zelda is probably my favorite franchise of all time, but the fanbase can be pretty unrealistic and unreasonable.

sanim02

holy link!:o

There is a reason why they were disappointed with WW's art $tyle hell almost EVERYONE was surprised by it and probably half of them got mad.:P Most of the hardcore Zelda fans were spoiled by the amazing OoT and wanted a sequel to the Adult Link, which they did not get until TP, (even if it wasn't a direct sequel, more like an homage) so I don't really remember many bashing Nintendo about TP until after it's release, that too with good reason. They wanted a dark Zelda, like how the OoT did it with the 7 years into the future thing.:P (and I was one of them:P)

Weirdly enough, that video looks a bit like Skyward Sword.

[QUOTE="charizard1605"] When I say soulless, I refer to the delightful whimsy of the earlier Zelda titles. Twilight Princess may have been an excellent game, but it lacked that. It lacked most of what made Zelda special, making it, to me at least, the weakest entry in the series, except for maybe Zelda II and Spirit Tracks (does FSA count as being a part of the main series?). I want SS to have that same charm that the earlier Zelda games had.charizard1605

I thought it was Cappy, anyway no big difference. I can see the Capcom titles being Canon but I don't consider it main series.

FSA was a good game though, hence why I indeed see no reason to worry about Zelda. The series is in good hands.

I'll only judge when the game comes out if it's dissapointing or not. And I'll try not to listen to the hype.

Well I've yet to see the gimmick gameplay (wolf form) on the new Zelda, there also seems to be more gameplay choices (sprinting, actual blocking, more commands..) so it should at least match WW and not fall under the same faults as TP. I expect a 9.0 because Nintendo keeps making each Zelda more and more simple and easier, but at least there seems to be more control on this one without the gimmicks that plagued TP.

Aside from the CD-i disasters which Nintendo had nothing to do with, I have never played a Zelda game I didn't consider incredible. I have nothing but faith in Miyamoto and Aonuma.

I don't think Zelda will be the best console sim racer, but maybe I just haven't seen enough gameplay videos.

Nintendon't ever mess up Zelda.

▲ They've been messing up Zelda since Wind Waker. So, will SS be dissapointing? Cel-shaded graphics: check. Poor graphics: check. Motion controls: Check. It has all the makings of a dissapointing game so far. ▲

I don't think it will dissapoint because if it ends up being the most "dense" Zelda like they said I will love having all the stuff to do. Plus it's supposed to have orchestrated music so that will be awesome too. Plus I kind of like the graphics.

Twilight Princess already happened as far as System Wars equivalent is concerned. Hell GT5 isn't even in the same league as TP. That was a magical SW moment. Either way it's Zelda. It'll be more zelda. If anything it'll do fine review wise because no one will knock Zelda for being more of typical Zelda.

No, but from what we've seen it's not going to be anywhere near the masterpiece that was Majora's Mask. No doubt it will be great just like TP and Spirit Tracks were great, but will it have that thunder that both Wind Waker and MM had? I doubt it.

But I've been wrong before and who knows, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised by it. At the end of the day it's Zelda through and through.
