We have zero concrete information regarding the 720/PS4.

Usually someone can dig out some leaked info.. Guess they got it all on lockdown this time around or were looking at a 2014 launch?
No one knows.....
But seeing how bad the BC is with the current 360, I don't really know how well they can do it. Sony seems to have an ace up it's sleeve when it comes to this, they got Gakai Cloud, meaning that it's very possible for them to put games on it and your save data, then download them to the PS4.
we have no information to go on , nothing has actually been confirmed , all we heard so far is rumors and i wouldnt put a grain of salt next to them ,
cause they all sound far fetched 16 gigs of ram that alone is a red flag i find it hard to believe ms would be generous to put 16 gigs after only putting 512mb into the xbox360 with no confirmation from microsoft ,
Not if you live in Europe.No.
Backwards compatability and buying/trading games will end with this gen.

If they do do all that, then this will be my last gen buying a console.No.

It better be, and it better be built way better than the 360. I have blown through so many xbox 360's its not even funny, 3 to red ring, and 4 for HDMI problems (three of those being slims). I am currently on 360 number 8.
I don't expect my 360 to work for more than a year if that, let alone 10 years. My collection of games are games I will want to replay in time, so BC is very important as I feel I won't have a working 360 to play them on.
And Microsoft BETTER get quality control and actually release a console that doesn't have sky high failer rates and include BC so we don't have to keep paying to repair their garbage like we have with the 360. THEY should fix any problem outside of the warrenty, in fact all 360's should have lifetime hardware warrenties because they are build so crappily. In other words, I'm not buying Microsofts next console at launch, I will get Nintendo's and Sony's and it will be, we shall see with MS.
I know this is about BC, but this ties in that if they don't include it, I might not be able to play my collection of 360 games anymore in the years to come.
Wow, that is a lot of 360's. It must be one hell of a console for you to go through 8 of them though. My PS3 no longer reads discs and I'm heavily debated whether or not buying a new laser or new one altogether is even worth it.It better be, and it better be built way better than the 360. its probably that it will be, M$ stuck with DirectX and they didn't go nuts with the processor. They won't have to emulate the GPU and the CPU is standard, ps4 on the other hand will need ps3 hardware to have backwards compatibilityWow, that is a lot of 360's. Has there been any leaks on the specs of the new xbox? that should tell us something about possible BC. Although MS at least tries to get BC even if by software emulation, Sony doesn't even bother if the hardware is not there. themyth01
rumor is that it has 2 GPUs and everything will be AMD just like the PS4.
You could always, you know, actually keep your old system around rather than replacing it with a new-gen system to play old games. Backwards-compatibility should never be a selling point in getting a 'next-gen' system.Stinger78I agree with keeping your old system mainly to gurantee BC support. But I diagree with you saying it shouldnt be a selling point for next gen system.

And you would be so so so wrong, I baby my stuff, it never leaves the shelf, and its a open 3 teir glass shelf about 4 feet tall and the all my consoles have open air. My games that I buy new all still look new, I never sell/trade in my games either. The problems I have been having, 3 red rings on the originals, then the HDMI keeps going out on the slims. All they do is sit there, I used my 360 the week before for like an hour, then I turn it on the following week and nothing displays. It's purely random and I make it due to very cheap and crappy hardware on MS's part. I only have a second PS3 because I wanted a slim for the better wifi, my 80gb backwards compatable model is still alive and well and I still have my orignal Wii. Only ever had 1 xbox, 1 gamecube, had 2 ps2's since the launch one had the lens read error, 1 N64, 1 SNES and 1 NES and all of those still work.
When I have had more xbox 360's than total consoles in my life, it's with MS build quality being complete and total garbage. Just because something breaks alot doesn't automatically assume I one of the discusting people who just throw their stuff around. It's well known that all the 360's even the slims, still have high failure rates.

Then they're in the same boat as Sony, they can either include the old chip in there for BC or do it through software emulation which requires a lot of software dev hours (quite expensive nowadays). Maybe MS will make BC a xlive gold only thing.. they have done software emulation before. Sony on the hand only bothers if they can stick the old hardware, I'd be very doubtful if they actually do BC through software emulation.[QUOTE="freedomfreak"]The only one that doesn't give the finger to BC is Nintendo. Sony got rid of it, which was a dick move. Microsoft had a few games that were BC.super600
Around 200 you mean, but sadly most of these games had tech issues.
200? Dayum. Tech issues suck though.[QUOTE="freedomfreak"]The only one that doesn't give the finger to BC is Nintendo. Sony got rid of it, which was a dick move. Microsoft had a few games that were BC.super600

it's actually about 500 dude, i counted 498 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_games_compatible_with_Xbox_360I remember reading a news piece which indicated MS would and said it would and even perform some of the latest games better. Something like this.
But it wouldn't be difficult given the hardware. I'd say it's highly likely.
I think it's a bit unlikely on the PS4 though, given the likely hardware differences, it would be difficult.
MS would be stupid if they didn't include BC. Seeing the huge library on 360, it would be a huge selling point for the system but it would also raise the cost.mstrchf12
I don't think it would raise the cost much unless it required specific hardware to be installed just to make it work.

and I treat my stuff badly by default since Im a smoker and I only ever had one problem with the 360 or ps3 My launch 360 still works by the way.Im more concerned with xbla content being supported.

It'll be interesting to see how they handle migration.
