[QUOTE="Sali217"]There has been talk of the 720 abandoning physical format, if that were the case it would be BC with downloads but not with disks.lundy86_4
True. Abandoning physical format would be the death of console gaming, though.
Maybe, maybe not. You would think something like steam would be the death of PC gaming if that was the case. But you're right, I think it is a bit too soon for consoles, This upcoming gen will probably be the last one with a physical format though, imo.[QUOTE="kuraimen"]I heard it's also RROD backwards compatible.DeadMan1290*Sigh* Yeah but luckily there is a much better option. PS4.

They said it would be... Then again were talking about MS here.
One of the reasons they bought the rights to the IBM and AMD parts.
They were calling it "forward compatibility" for a while. Meaning old games would be rendered with 1080p resolution and extra AA.
Gears 3 was the last time I heard anything about it. Which was claimed to be a forward compat game.

There are still many areas with insufficient internet capabilities, seen with issues regarding OnLive. Steam is also known to be rather popular in Eastern European countries, and Russia... Largely unheard of in console gaming circles (though, that could just be ignorance).
[QUOTE="Stinger78"]You could always, you know, actually keep your old system around rather than replacing it with a new-gen system to play old games. Backwards-compatibility should never be a selling point in getting a 'next-gen' system.PSP107I agree with keeping your old system mainly to gurantee BC support. But I diagree with you saying it shouldnt be a selling point for next gen system. Well, my main reason for getting something new is to get to enjoy advancements in games only possible on new hardware, along with system exclusives. There is very little reason to buy a new system to play games that can still be played on the system they were intended for - original controls, original audio, original video. Any enhancements to old games on new hardware is essentially emulation. And just to clarify - if you keep an old system to play games made for it, it's not "BC support".

Where did you hear that?
I don't think it's viable for the mainstream, as games get bigger and broadband speeds on average aren't that fast for download and a lot of places are only just getting it, I can't see MS doing a cloud based gaming thing yet.
On the other hand didn't Sony buy Gaikai.
