To be honest, i think 360 failed for not having a Playstation logo.

maybe 3rd time will be the charm with ms like it was with sony.

the ps3 is rock solid while the ps1 and two were horribly shoddy.

hopefully ms can work out the bugs as well as sony did.

The 360 was a MASSIVE success. The real question is, will the next xbox have as much success as the 360? The answer is probably not. It's unlikely Sony will let MS have a year headstart this time, and it's unlikely Sony will mess up with the price like they did with PS3. I can't see Sony giving MS the kind of advantages they handed to MS for the early years of this gen. I can't see the net xbox being as big a success as the 360, and I expect Sony to reclaim their rightful place at the top.

the 360 did fail in terms of sales but profitability , not so much

the ps3 failed in every aspect,

the wii won period and to answer , its to early to tell but i dont like microsofts track record!

imo its pretty hard to top the 360's failure (RROD, no games, etc), but now that bungie wont be centerstage of xbox next gen i get the feeling it will fail harder.

well hardware probs aside, the 360 did better in everything compared to the XBOX... sold more, had improved online service and a better games library..

I wouldnt call that a failure..

i think when sony says something like "next gen doesn't start until we say so" and the claims by cows here that the ps3 will surpass the 360 in sales in one year, the year head start argument doesn't sound as strong as it should.

Xbox Live wasn't down for 24 days due to a DDoS. Also, those "geniuses" at PSN still having figured out how to let people chat with each other while playing different games.

In many ways the 360 were the market leader, and trendsetter this gen, so I would not call it a failure (altho the reliability was somewhat horrible).

Basicly if we judge MS from its 2 console cycle, they have been WAY above average, they have never made a failure.

If the next one will do as well? Im unsure, While I do tend to get a single console every gen, MS have not yet sold me on thier console (atleast from the rumor mill) While I from the outset have greater faith in Sony (or rather have faith that Sony does not make the same mistakes again), and Nintendo, who while delivering a lower spec console, again brings interresting concepts, and atleast from the outlook seems to appeal more to the "core" gamer (yeah we loathe the word, but the industry seems to love it).

So it all depends on MS, both on the way they market the next console, what hidden costs and premiums are hidden within their ideas, and how well they support games (their firstparty has gotten prtty abysmal). But maybe the lack of exclusives we see, is because MS dictated the focus towards the next gen, to make sure to have enough games at launch (which IS a system killer, if they fail to do so).

2) Did fix the RROD problems by offering the 3 year warranty and the slim

3) Made cows jelly (which is proven in this forum alone)

4) Improved online

5) Actually changed the controller design

The 360 hasn't failed. Sure, it's not the most reliable system in history, but I'm pretty sure it's making Microsoft money at this point. If Microsoft has any smart people working for it at all, they should be trying to avoid another RROD disaster.
