I thought PS3 had it for sure earlier this year even with the higher price. Then the worlds financial economy went to heck. Now a lot of people aren't concerned with quality or value, they just want cheap. And you can see it from the way that McDonalds sales have increased, Walmart sales have increased and Xbox sales have increased. Anything is possible in the future it's hard to say who will win. Either way both have a user base now and both can make money so thats good for everyone. EmperorSupreme

Wow, that's not true in the slightest. Look how quickly they adopted the Sony Walkman, the Toyota Camry, the Nintendo Wii, etc.
The 360 isn't even the most popular console in the US.

The world economy is having little impact on the games, and console we buy, i believe GS did an article about it. This is no excuse for the PS3 failing in sales.
The fact of the matter is, there is nothing on the PS3, to justify the extra money, and it's alot of extra money.
Casual gamers (on the PS3, and XBOX) want games like COD4, Madden, Fifa and Halo. Most are multiplats, why buy the more expensive console when you can play the games just as well, sometimes better on the cheaper one?
[QUOTE="weddy92"]who won in 2007?Hitman533
PS3 won, more likely to win this year too considering that in 2007 it never outsold the 360 in NA and this year it outsold the 360 like for 6 months in NA so yeah PS3 has this year in the bag.
the Ps3 had a big lead going into sept and right now has a lead roughly around 1.2 million. The 360 will outsell the PS3 this holiday, you can take that to that bank, how much is the question. I would say about 700,000 so yeah woohoo the PS3 wins in 2008 by a mere 500,000 consoles and still is about 5 million behind. The PS3 will be in 3rd this gen and the proof of this is the poor software sales for big games whereas the 360 is absolutely a software beast. The PS3 is the least successful considering where it was last gen and the market share it held last gen. MS has done its job, whereas the wii takes a big squat on both of the consoles so who really cares.
Itll take another two good years, but does it matter, not to Sony, they have much more to think about than just getting to second place, like filling the HUGE money hole the PS3 has been
On the other hand, the 360 even if its rate of sales decrease, is going from strength to strength. Software sales will get stronger, the brand will get bigger, and importantly, MS will make even greater profit
Sony is going to lose this gen.....It has lost the majority of it's market share to both NIN and MS.......Countless exclusives....and any profit that was made with the PS2 has been consumed by the development of the cell....
Fanboys can call "sales" all day long...but as a whole (So far) this gen has been horrible for Sony
Exactly, even if Sony double MSs console sales, that fail is still there and so are MSs gainsSony is going to lose this gen.....It has lost the majority of it's market share to both NIN and MS.......Countless exclusives....and any profit that was made with the PS2 has been consumed by the development of the cell....

At the end of the day it's profit that matters; Sony nor Microsoft can say anything about this gen, they both screwed up.

The world economy is having little impact on the games, and console we buy,
Retailers are going out of business, the stock market is down 40%++, financial companies over 100 years old are going under, we have more unemployment than we've had since the recession in the early 80's yet their is "little impact on the games, and console we buy??"
Tell that to the employees at EA: "Electronic Arts Joins Layoff Club, Provides Sad Outlook"

or THQ: "Game Publisher THQ Posts Loss; Lowers Outlook, Laysoff 250"

Gaming is a luxury and an expensive one at that and the world economy is having an impact on everything we buy. Kudos to you and I'm very happy it hasn't effected you personally. But not everyone is that fortunate. Two months ago I bought any and every game I wanted, but this month I've not bought one. I'm feeling it because my sales are off about 60% this month and guess what I'm just happy because there are a lot of people in my industry losing their jobs.

Sony has only gone backward in sales, in every other way they have improved over last gen. MS has made substantial gains when compared to the original Xbox, but that's not saying much either.
The PS3 has a 10 year life cycle to play catch up. Play catch up B3yond.

The "life cycle" on a 360 is about 6-12 months, then your sending it in for a replacement.

Weeeelllll.......Sales/market share are by far the most important aspect of a company...So the "only" aspect is by and large the most devastating part...
In comparison to the PS2 the Xbox was a failure...But when it's looked at as MS's entry into the market and building a brand with steep competition from Sony and NIN...In that respect it's far from a failure..MS stated themselves they did not expect the Xbox to take the world by storm.... but as an entry into the market and continue to build the brand with the 360.....So far they have done that..
Sony's not done by any means...but it will have to pull a miracle out of its hat if Sony's want the same dominance they enjoyed last gen
Just for discussion can you go further into how "in every other way they have improved over last gen"?

I agree that MS has done a great job improving over last gen in marketshare, although I disagree with how they did it. I don't believe launching a defective console early was a good idea. Maybe good for sales, but bad for consumers and I don't respect them at all as an organization for doing that. I agree with what you said about Sony losing marketshare, it's ridiculous how much they have lost, but Sony has really turned around for the better. They started listening to their customers again what we wanted, what features we needed, what changes could be made. Sony also got it right with PS3 as far as the quality, how it works with industry standard upgrades and peripherals, and finally got onboard with online play, which they have done in a big way this year. So that's what I meant about they have improved.Â

Ohh I agree MS RROD has been an utter disaster....and I don't comply with manufactures sending out spotty hardware.....But MS had to do something.....they had to reset the clock not only because of user base ...but the manufacturing bottlenecks for the GPU was killing them... So I don't agree with what they did......but I understand why they had to do.... what they had to do...
I agree to a certain extent on how Sony has opened it's ear up this gen.....Then again I thought they did real well last gen with the PS2....
I do wish they offered a SKU that was "barebones" from the start.....I did not have any interest in WIFI..or card readers..Etc...and the lack of those features would have been less expensive from the get go....Even now I believe they would benefit from offering a SKU without WIFI....It could be at least 50 bucks less at retail and could make a difference...

And yet they still beat the PS3 by quite a margin, and that's saying a lot to how far backwards sony had gone compared to last gen
One thing that I think ever1 forgets is that there are a lot of ps2's out there and as we get longer into the gen and the ps3 price drops a bit more casual gamers who own a ps2 will go to a ps3. I think in the long run ps3 will come 2nd. mhsdrake
SW are fun and fanboys make this place run...but in reality...consumers are not fanboys and don't have a blind brand following...
Consumers are going to chose whatever platform that meets their criteria....Mainly that criteria is... first and foremost price (perfect example is the Wii) and then games...With Sony having the highest price right now ...(That will most likely follow them this entire gen) and most of it's exclusives are now multi-plat...... the 360 is in a better position to capitalize on the PS2 fan base....I am not even going to comment on the Wii.....because well...NIN is destroying both Sony and MS...and has the casual market on lockdown..

Please....If anything history proves you wrong...Using your logic then Sega and NIN should have been a bigger contender to Sony/PS1 when they entered the market....Look what happened there.....Brand name did nothing for them..The PS1 was successful because of games and price point...
Given MS's progress and brand building they have retooled the consumer to believe different/there are other alternatives to the PS brand.....You are fooling yourself if you believe the PS1/ PS2 success was not driven by price point and games......Sony used this formula for both the PS1/PS2 and this is the same formula MS has adapted and to a greater success (this gen) NIN....
Infact...Where did I say brand names do not matter?
They do ...but not the extent you were pushing in the previous post....Brand name will not pull Sony magically to second place....I will say it once more.......price point and games will........ Given how MS has a less expensive price point and a solid game library that includes many previous Sony exclusives...Sony does not have the luxury to "hope" their previous consumers will jump on board when there are less expensive alternatives in the marketplace

I think he's joking, but I'm very shocked that Sony fans still make this argument. The PS1 and PS2 were able to enjoy such long life cycles, because they were such successes.
The PS3 is in dead last, so a 10 year life cycle of the same sort is a bit hard to swallow.
There's no way to spin it: Sony lost this gen. I know it's shocking for those who thought Sony would always be on top, but they dropped the ball.

tell that to the people still playing launch consoles, and please stay on topic, this is about sales not reliability, so stop trollingIMO if sony doesn't do at least a $100.00 price drop by at least fall 2009 they'll never catch the 360. like that $500 bundle that just features double the hdd space uncharted and a coupon pretty much, c'mon! that doesn't justify ignoring the core 80gb model
