Just wondering what you guys think. Some of my fondest childhood memories were of me playing Banjo Kazooie and Tooie (among the other great N64 games) and when Nuts and Bolts came out I was pretty dissappointed. I want a real Banjo platformer like the older ones, not building vehicles and racing. Do you guys think that Rare will ever make a proper Banjo "Threeie"? (or whatever it would be called)

Probably not.

MS sunk a lot of dollars into Rare's games earlier games this gen, and those types of colorful, wacky, cartoon games just don't sell to the mainstream crowd anymore with the exception of Nintendo's first party.

Kinect is going to keep Rare alive a little while longer, but I wouldn't expect a full blown platformer out of Kinect.

there will never be a "real" sequel to conker either, thanks to "live and reloaded." the xbox = graveyard for platformers.

The 360 has actually spawned some really great platformers.

I also found Nuts and Bolts to be fantastic...

Considering how Rare has lost nearly all of the developers that knew how to make their games magical and that they're currently being relegated to smaller scale projects like Kinect games and making avatars, I doubt we'll see something like a new Banjo-Kazooie anytime soon.

Rare's been massively restructured, they wouldn't be able to make a good one anyway.

I always love threads like this one.
first let me say nuts and bolts was awesome.

Now I will say  did you even play nuts and bolts it wasn't all about building, and racing but what I really find funny is you think Banjo tooie was a platformer...that game had so many different genre mechanics in it racing, flying, fps...etc Banjo tooie was as much of an platformer as Uncharted is. *renegade says uncharted is a tps*

Banjo Kazooie and Tooie followed the same formula as SM64, only, imo, more polished (SM64 was a launch title after all)

The current definition of "adventure" is extremly loose anyway because it has nothing to do with the actual gameplay. The gameplay of Uncharted is still TPS mixed with (filler) platforming parts which serve as the "different mechanics" in Banjo Tooie. No game is pure. Mario platformers have always had mini games and mechanics.

You can't downplay this matter

Sadly, you are right. M$ was stupid to pick them up and Nintendo was smart to drop them when they did. The writing was on the wall and M$ just didn't see it.

I didn't like Nuts and Bolts either, though I'm not holding my breath for Rare to do anything worthwhile. if they do, I'll be pleasantly surprised I suppose. Their best game this gen was Perfect Dark Zero and most people agree that while the game isn't bad, it certainly wasn't as good as it should have been. Kameo was wasted potential. I couldn't get past five hours into Viva Pinata and Banjo just made me sad. Let's not even dive into Kinect Sports........ Freaking Rare.......

Definitely. This is the best way of putting it. Rare started to stagnate last-gen, Nintendo knew it and MS wasted a ton of money. The results have spoken for themselves, really.

If you've seen Rare's interview they talked about how they wanted to make Tooie what Nuts & Bolts is now, the technology available though didn't allow it. Whether that turned into a good thing or not is based on the player.

Any time wasted on a Banjoe game could be time spent on the Conker series.

well banjo tooie was my favorite game. ever. I loved Nuts and bolts too though, although I get what you are saying it definetly was not a traditional banjo game, and at this poitn I doubt we will ever get one.

what I recommend you check out is Banjo Kazooie Grunty's revenge on the GBA, while it was not a fully 3D platformer and it was fairly short it still had the certain Banjo charm imo and was a great game.

As far as the old SNES and N64 RARE games go I've pretty much given up on looking to the past. What RARE had back then was pretty unique - they really had a neat, distinctive style and I don't think we'll every see something quite like it. But, hey, there's plenty of great devs these games and we can always look forward to new experiences.

Rare are idiots. Everyone was hyped. They announced Banjo 3 and people throw their hats in the air with glee. Then about a year later they reveal the true nature of the game and people are rightfully disappointed. You can not pull that crap and not expect people to be annoyed. If people knew what the game was about from the start the backlash and fan disappointment wouldn't have been as bad. I bet the game might have been a bit more sucessful too. It was like having your parents tell you 'We got a really good present for you for your birthday' and it turns out to be a pair of socks. People felt hoodwinked.

He isn't. The best Banjo games were on a Nintendo system and finalstar only plays games on Sony's system.

Sony fanboy that doesn't have much knowledge outside the PS2/PS3 basically. :P

Yeah, but that genre doesn't really sell well on MS systems.

As long as people are interested in one, we can always hope it will be made. Nuts & Bolts was a good indicator (despite people's opinions on the game itself) that the franchise was still alive. Rare's part in the development of Kinect Sports and the cancellation of a new Perfect Dark, though, aren't a good sign. Too early to say Rare is "dead" though.

Yeah I thought I heard something like 5 years ago about Banjo 3 and it seemed like it would be a real banjo game....I think there was a trailer that showed Banjo pick up Kazooie and she drilled through a wall and then they were at Spiral Mountain. It seemed to me like it was gonna be a true Banjo game. Nuts and Bolts wasnt that bad but it certainly wasnt close to being as good as the other Banjo games.
