I noticed that since cysis is not being released on any home consoles due to hardware limits, that that means that pc's are already getting too powerful and 7th gen has only just started (still 4-5 years to go before next upgrade). This is only going to get worse as the years go on, and unless developers some how manage to make upgrades for their consoles like those for pc's, I cant see there being an 8th generation.

Obviously the Wii is not affected as a PC cannot replace it yet.

Any thoughts?

Oh God no... but it may happen in our lifetime. I can see it happening in 50 years or so.

Don't laugh... it's possible.

This is the way it has been for generations prior. Crysis is probably the equivilant of a 3rd or 4th generation game on 360 or PS3.

You're forgetting that console manufacturing is an extremely lucrative business for several very powerful corporations.

You're also forgetting that console gamers vastly, vastly outnumber those who game on their PCs.

PC gaming is always cutting edge, bleeding console hardware each and every generation. This is nothing new, why would this gen be any different?

And where is MS, Sony, Nintendo going to take the market? They're just going to give it up despite the markets chance of making money?

And in all honesty anything could replace the Wii, PC included. A lot of it's motion are equivalent to a mouse save for some of the other degrees of freedom, but nothing a new controller for any given console couldn't accomplish.

The major draw of a console is that people don't have to deal with system requirements, drivers, updates, compatibility, ect. Until the PC can replicate the plug and play nature of the consoles, they wont be going anywhere.

Um every generation the pc surpasses the console after a very short period. Thats nothing new. Consoles and pc's are both here to stay. Thats why I game on consoles when they're new and then switch to pc when the consoles become crap. Which should happen in the next 1.5 to 2 years.

Console software sales make pc sales look like a joke, year after year. farrell2k

Sure, if you compare the combined sales from every console to the PC then yes you're right. However, if you take the PC software sales and compare it to a particular consoles software sales then you'll be surprised how well PC's do.

Love your sig btw, even misspelled electrical

PCs are always more powerful than consoles. Consoles will always be around as long as they keep selling, this is not the last generation.

If my games look as good as they do and play as well as they do and I dont have to worry with messing with a pc...I will always pick a console over a PC anyday. So for me...the question should be...Will this be the last generation for pc gaming. Seems to me consoles are taking everything the pc can do and making it easier and better.

If Microsoft and Sony continue the direction they are going, then yes, home consoles will die and be replaced by a stripped down PC, except you pay extra for royalties to those respective companies.

As long as the industry keeps having "record years" and "record months" it will keep on trucking along in pretty much the same fashion it has since the Nintendo/Sega wars.

NPD looks into kids and gaming New report says PC dominates as game platform of choice for children from ages 2 to 17; It's just there's far, far more good games to purchase on the PC (see here) so the purchases are spread across more titles.

What home consoles come down to is accessiblity.

They are simple to install, controls are not considered to be as complicated, you don't have to wait for the games to install, and some like their couches more than a computer chair. Not to mention that that purchasing a console is cheaper than purchasing a PC.....with less possible problems(viruses, crashes, etc.), even if a PC is more functional.

Consoles are not going anywhere, not any time soon at least. Their ease of use will insure that they will make their way into people's living rooms for some time.

Is this your first console generation ever?

PC always overtakes consoles after a year or two. Yes, most games from now on will be toned down to fit consoles, only PC exclusives will look noticeably better than consoles.
