Will Ubisoft screw up Far Cry 2?

What was wrong with Instincts? I really liked that game, especially the map creation and multiplayer portions of it.

I think FC2 could turn out great.

As you probably already know, Crytek has sold the Far Cry rights to Ubisoft quite a while back, who are now in control of the Far Cry series. Looking at Ubisoft's endeavors (instincts, evolution, predator, vengeance), I can't help be skeptical.


Prediction: Will Ubisoft continue it's line of average Far Cry games or deliver a solid hit to revive the series?MoldOnHold

They have the power of the PC platform behind them this time, and actually seem to have a goal to make a revolutionary game. I say yes, considering they want to reestablish their PC market position.

From what I know of Far Cry 2, they're planning to make it more free-roam by having only one objective throughout the entire game but having multiple factions you can manipulate to meet your goal of tracking down and killing someone. I also heard there will be none of those feral powers in the console Far Cry games or any killer monkeys or huge mutants packed with infinite rocket shots.

Because it's different compared to the other ones, I'm unable to say whether or not Ubisoft will screw it up.

why would they piss off the PC people AGAIN? their whole goal with Far Cry 2 is to redeem themselves as PC devs. Porting it would just make people angry.

Yep. Instincts was a linear, simple version of Far Cry. For the consoles it was good, but it would have been seen as a 5.0 at best on the PC.

It didn't even come close....

It was way, WAY more linear, had different gameplay, a different story, and different overall feel. All they had in common was the setting and the name, nothing else.

Far Cry, to this day, has never been ported. Instincts is a seperate game totally. Far Cry 2 is more like STALKER than anything else. AND, it is not possible on the consoles at its current state. This is because it takes a massive amount from the hard drive and takes up lots of RAM. To be ported, the game would have to be redisgned from scratch. Suffice to say, I doubt there will be a port. and if there is one, it will be a spinoff just like instincts.

open ended areas dont really matter especially since the gameplay in the original Far Cry is always the same. go to a base, eliminate everybody there, go to another base, eliminate everybody there, rinse and repeat. its not like approaching a base from a different direction is going to drastically change the gameplay.

The Xbox version had a totally different storyline compared to the PC version. In the Xbox version, you are given feral powers from the chemical that created the trigens while in the PC version, you are clean from start to near the finish.

I don't know much beyond that seeing as I've never played the Xbox version, but the feral powers kind of worry me a bit since my playthrough of the PC version had me using a lot of wit and skill to survive on the hardest difficulty...on the very first level. I never managed to beat it on that difficulty. If there is a power of some sort that heals you in the Xbox version, that'd kill the survival experience that I had in the PC version because first aid kits were pretty scarce and some enemies had two hit kills on the easiest difficulty.

Ubisoft is one of those companies that when they release a game you don't know how the game will end up being either good or bad. One never knows. But I don't think FC2 will be bad nor the Ubisoft will screw it up.

My impression of the preview was Ubisoft considers Far Cry 2 their MOST important project in their entire developing history. Redeeming themselves as PC devs is something that is tough to do with one game. Hopefully they create a great game.

Ubisoft is one of those companies that when they release a game you don't know how the game will end up being either good or bad. One never knows. But I don't think FC2 will be bad nor the Ubisoft will screw it up.

I don't see where in my post does it say FC: Instincts is better than the original Far Cry. We all know Far Cry is better than FC: Instincts, and whoever says otherwise is just a fool.

I'm sure it has been mentioned already, but no f-ing way. Far Cry 2 sounds like total awesomesauce. I too was indifferent towards it due to the stupid Instinctses, then I read the previews.

I don't know what that guy was on. Read all the other reviews. It has a lower score on gamerankings also. It doesn't have what made Far Cry so special. I guess the guy who reviewed it likes linear, dumbed down shooters over open-ended ones.

No, it was not a direct port. It was a spin-off made by Ubisoft because they have the rights to the Far Cry name. The only game Crytek has ever made was Far Cry for the PC, which was different than all the other spin-offs.
