I didn't know putting an limitless budget and literally bleeding money to make Far Cry 2(PC) the best game possible ensures that it will suck... The ENTIRe point of the project is to prove themselves as PC devs again, and to do that they need to absolutely push the PC to its limits(while still keeping good optimization and enabling a wide spectrum of rigs to play it). It streams from the HDD meaning that consoles can't really do it. Also, with the faster, better transfers from the HDD to actual code, trying to put the game on consoles would mean a complete rework of the game... I would mean rebuilding the engine from the ground up, then rebuilding the game from the ground up... So I would say its fairly safe to assume this is a PC exclusive.
horrowhip
Consoles are where Ubisoft's marketing budget goes. And, good marketing = good market success. You are too naive, NHF, but it's true.
It doesn't matter how good will they optimize Far Cry 2 for PC, or make it shiny as much as possible. Far Cry may be a really great PC title, but the entire franchise has been established entirely on consoles. And that's where real money flows. It's business.
I mean, really, Ubisoft starts hype for Far Cry 2 "PC exclusive" right at a time when Crysis gets probably as much as hype as the entire gaming industry of year 2007 - how stupid can it be? It's like some ambitious developer suddenly says "look, we're making a World of Warcraft alternative, which'll be ton times better than the original WoW!"
It's a diversion. They are announcing Far Cry 2 for PC because it's looking pretty and shiny, and everything, but it'll all go to shade as soon as they announce Far Cry 2 for consoles. I'm confident that Far Cry 2 for PC will get about 30% of marketing and developing budget. Everything else goes for consoles.
It's Ubisoft. They are under a threat by EA. They need money. Not to spend it on business models that are not completely confident for them.
