HYPE THREAD UNDERWAY (COMING SOON)

Currently working on the hype thread for the game and had a thought. What do you guys think? Another cinematic walking button-masher or does this look like it has potential? From what I've seen based on other people's reactions, I think it's likely to turn out to be a good game. One paradigm I've noticed is that you can always tell how a game will turn out based on what people praise about the game prior to its release. The Order was praised on its graphics and facial animations and details, but no one ever addressed its story or characters that much, neither was its gameplay really discussed. But, for Until Dawn, people are actually discussing the characters and story and fear factor than they are the amazing graphics...so...I think this just might fall between AA and AAA. What do you guys think?

No.Until dawn is,like heavy rain,.The problem with the order was that it's called a 3rd person gears of war style game but it combines elements from different genres and the outcome is bad. Until dawn it's way different. We all know what we are waiting. It will be a good game.

No because Until Dawn is a choice driven experience that will have multiple endings and a ton of choices, Order is just a generic cinematic movie with a cool setting but atrocious "gameplay"

I agree with that.

However I did like the combat and special gun in The Order.

Anyways, Until Dawn will be like Heavy Rain like you said and be heavily story driven and I'm looking forward to it.

I hope Until Dawn is good, it's one of the most interesting games this year in my opinion so it would suck if the game falls short

It looks great and playable previews have all been very positive so there's reason to believe it might be a good or even great game. The Order, all the signs were there that it was a turkey before it even got to review stage.

@blueinheaven: yes the previews have been alright-good, so it has potential. I think it has chance to get a 7 or 8 here, hopefully no lower.

Depends on if can beat the game in 4 hours i guess. Doesnt look like you will have much control over your characters, but does seem you will have good control over their choices. I think if you like interactive movie games and horror you will like this game maybe. I havnt guessed a score yet, but ill probably guess a 6 or 7.

Im easily persuaded, before Zorine's preview i was thinking this game was like a 5/6, after reading her preview and finding out more info i upped my score some. Ill check into it some more so that i can give myself an accurate prediction for the game.

Looks like a 3D VN and don't look as good as TO nor as much action as TO.

May stuck between A and AA if that means anythings xD

Nah, it's a different thing. It's not a third person shooter, it's one of those David Cage thingys. Basically like those point and click CD ROM games on DOS or whatever. Will it get badly reviewed? Maybe. The industry is tracking down on movie games it seems so this might get some backlash. Thing is though, if they can make it interesting with all the different outcomes of the story, or fun for parties and shit, it will have done what it set out to do well. Just not great as a product of this medium. But what standards do games like these get judged by? Heavy Rain? Can't say I'm looking forward to this.

What's the name of this game's developer? Quantum Dream, or whatever? It's a shitty developer, and they've yet to make a good game. It will be shit, but not Order 1886 type of shit.

The only thing that worries me is possibly being able to finish it in a few hours and then having to replay it for a slightly different outcome. That would suck. I didn't see Zorine's preview but Danny's was very positive, he's psyched up for the full game.

@blueinheaven: She seems to enjoy it but felt pressured to make decisions that she couldnt go back and fix much to your concern. But i kinda felt she was still satisfied with it, and it seemed like she didnt play the whole thing? I could be wrong, but she left the impression that she wanted to go back and finish the game. Zorine didnt find it scary, or not that she didnt find it scary but that she didnt fall for the jump scares , which i kinda figured since they mainly use sound scares and stuff that hardcore horror fans are use to by now, but the intensiveness seems to be there, so thats something very positive.

I don't think anyone's played the whole thing. It seems like they sent out preview code to a lot of people. Danny said he played three hours and enjoyed it so much he played it again. He didn't say if he finished the game in that time, just that he played it. Maybe the preview stops at a certain point?

I don't expect it to be scary I watch horror movies all the time and am now immune to every jump scare and gratuitous gorefest you can throw at me :) I'm kind of hoping for an experience similar to Heavy Rain which I loved. Not that long now till we all find out what it's really all about anyway.

@Zidaneski: Never heard of them. Heh, I'll give this game a chance if it scores well, and I see the reviews are glowing, then who knows. Maybe I will buy it. There's nothing better than a surprisingly good game, that comes out of no where.

I dont think Until Dawn has had anywhere near the buildup and hype that The Order had. Because of this if it reviews to a 6 or so it wont be as bad. Expectations seem to factor in to review scores.

Yeah, I might throw one out for the Lems. We'll see. I don't think they're even allowing themselves to hype it.

I'm not sure who you think he 'got'. Fable Legends is multiplayer so absolutely nothing like all other versions of Fable so the question does not need to be asked.

I don't have a crystal ball, but Fable Legends looks like it'll be DOA, seeing as there're several other competitors on the market that have already set high standards. The fact that I'm just now even hearing about the game from you guys tells me that it's not as big as it would need to be in order to be even relevant, thus it'll be buried before anyone and will likely suffer the same fate as TFall or Destiny, although there are still people pretending those games are still relevant. It's sad and hilarious at the same time.

It looks like if David Cage did a Saw inspired movie-game, I imagine it'll have a modest but not stellar reception as is par for the territory, have a kind of semi-niche audience. That being said, I'm totally looking forward to it. I like these kind of movie/story games, and I like horror. I'll definitely want to check it out, but unfortunately I probably won't have my PS4 until the later in the year, like maybe when Persona 5 releases. I think it's kind of funny they're using the voices and likenesses of real actors and actresses, like "oh man I've seen them in stuff" even if I don't know they're real names. That'd be funny if this becomes a trend in gaming.

I really hope it doesn't. Voices I don't have a problem with (though I don't agree when games hire big movie actors), but I feel they should stay away from using the likeness of actors in games.

I don't think there's been any movie/TV celebrity appearances I felt were oddly forced in there, but I can see your point. If I started seeing Telltale games starring Brad Pitt and Denzel Washington and George Clooney, I would kind of feel that Hollywood is interloping on the gaming world. That might be too uncomfortably odd even for me.

It's not about being forced, more that I feel it's a waste of money to hire such people. Like for Destiny, I imagine Peter Dinklage cost a lot of money and added nothing (or was even detrimental) to the game. Also when using the likeness, I feel games can create any character model they want, I don't see the point in limiting them to celebrities.

As to the idea that this will be "The Order" - no, this looks like on of those movie games where you make the moral dilemma choices to see how things progress. The Order was a shooter (or was supposed to be) with a very cinematic presentation. The Order got criticized for its walk sections because at its heart it was supposed to be a shooter, but instead it limited its gameplay for what it was and focused entirely on its cinematic qualities. On the other hand, Until Dawn looks more like a story adventure that plays like a movie because story really is at the heart of the kind of game this is about.

looks like heavy rain, walking dead type game. im hearing that the characters are pretty cliche so that might bring down the overall quality of the game since the game is a bit more simplistic.

i think this could be in the 5-7 range. miniscule chance that this will be an 8

So, I've finished the text part of the hype thread and from what I've researched so far, I worry that this game will either be sleeper hit and be really good or it'll be really bad to the extent of leaving you wondering why they even bothered to begin with. For one, the characters honestly appear basic and 2 dimensional, which wouldn't be too noticable if they game took place on a map the scale of Heavy Rain or Beyond 2 Souls, at least, but it doesn't. It takes place in some small cabin in the woods...so I honestly don't know how they're going to pull this off. Also, the developers is another factor. If it was Quantic Dream, I wouldn't be as worried, but it's not

Until Dawn seems to be going for the Heavy Rain style. Cinematic all the way, with QTE's and minimal controls. I'm fine with that if it's pulled off effectively (i.e. if the story is worth delving into, and the choices are interesting enough to go back and do a 2nd or 3rd time). I actually love the idea of these cinematic games,*IF* they actually pull them off. Little concerning the studio has no track-record though, so that's why I've set modest expectations.

I think the Order was disappointing because it looked like an interesting universe, and literally all they had to do was copy the Uncharted formula (as far as balance between gameplay and cinematic sections). I think expectations play a role as well - people expected an Uncharted in a new universe and instead they got a cinematic walking simulator. I had hype for this game myself, but knew something was off when I saw the gameplay (every gameplay footage seemed to take place in a 10x12 room... with cover).

Sony has failed so bad with new ip this gen with Driveclub, Knack and the Order 1886. I'm sure Until Dawn will join them as being another disaster,

PS4 has the worst new exclusive games in console History

I've stated the same in the past about SuperMassive and it's true. I follow devs and this is one title that I am sketchy on due to their track record.
Best of luck to them, but not really interested in what they got cookin'...unless it's a surprise breakout title which is unlikely.

If it was so good, why so little faith from Sony and they haven't even shown it during main E3 presentation (although it was playable for press, right?) ??? You or me have every right to be skeptical about it. From those B-movie game teen slashers, I kind of liked Obscure for what it was, albeit it had co-op, so it was a different kind of a game...But this cinematic style is not my cup of tea. It got stale after Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy).

The devs don't have a good track record, but this is their first full game that isn't handheld, party game or a port. I enjoyed Fahrenheit, Beyond and Heavy Rain, so if they can capture some of what Quantum Dreams does it could be a game worthwhile getting.

Sony has failed so bad with new ip this gen with Driveclub, Knack and the Order 1886. I'm sure Until Dawn will join them as being another disaster,

PS4 has the worst new exclusive games in console History

In history?

Not , that would be the 360 Kinect games like Steel Battalion.

At least the PS4 games are playeable , unlike some Kinect games.

.. They are going to have to do a lot if they mean to surpass games like The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead by Telltale games..

I'm guessing it'll be not that good but pretty fun, just like an 80s B horror movie. Personally love B horror movies so am looking forward to this

Definitely looks better than TO 1886

The idea of repeated 9 hour playthroughs seems a bit daunting. Hopefully it's set up in a meaningful way

I'm gonna do a @SolidTy here and just say their games have Metacritic average of 57/100.

It's definitely weird Sony didn't show this at E3 considering it's out soon. Maybe it's coming out on other platforms so Sony didn't want to push it? Are we sure this is PS4 proper exclusive not just another timed effort?

They have already completely surpassed Telltale by having graphics that don't look like they should be on PS2.
