Yeah if they can get it that good it will blow anybodys mind. And what the hell is Uncanny Valley anwayUncanny Valley is a psychological hypothesis which describes our reaction to something that comes too close to simulating real humans. Instead of being intrigued, we become repulsed over it. The "valley" is this sudden repulsion that seems to occur between where we perceive something as "not human" and where we perceive something as "a true human peer".
They most certainly will,Pixar has even said there switching to 3d in 2009,or at least one of there film will be made in 3d (not cgi but real-time 3d),so expect thosse graphics by 2009/10 whe nthe next xbox comes out?blacktornCan you elaborate on this or perhaps provide a link?

The phenomenon can be explained by the notion that, if an entity is sufficiently non-humanlike, then the humanlike characteristics will tend to stand out and be noticed easily, generating empathy. On the other hand, if the entity is "almost human", then the non-human characteristics will be the ones that stand out, leading to a feeling of "strangeness" in the human viewer.

and because they have promised we should all believe them...just like with Killzone, and Motorstorm
don't get me wrong, I'm really hyped about Heavy Rain based on the developer's record and the trailer's cinematic quality, but their claim that the game will actually look like that is on par with "PS3 will be 4D".

I believe Geforce 9900GTX with DX10c or DX11 will be able to render CGI atleast at 30fps, so maybe Q4 2008 or Q2 2009. Just imagine Crysis with texture mods and higher res mods all running at 2650x1900. Or maybe a modified Cryengine 2.
If that won't look like CGI I don't know what will.
I hope not. I like playing games, not watching them.foxhound_foxso you play games with your eyes closed?
I read a report on the future of graphics. The report was on bbc website about 5months ago.
The report said it will take up to 20 years to reach full photo realism.
So i would guess it would only take about 5 - 10 years to reach in the in-game graphics you see in the picture of this thread.
The next step to photorealism in the graphics card world would be realtime raytracing, following the rays of light through all reflections, refractions, etc. so as to produce realistic lighting. Graphics chips can't handle realistic frame rates at even minimum (640x480) resolutions yet. Raytracing is an order of magnitude more computationally demanding then current rendering techniques.I believe Geforce 9900GTX with DX10c or DX11 will be able to render CGI atleast at 30fps, so maybe Q4 2008 or Q2 2009. Yeah, but by the time games looks that good, movies will be in full 3D using holographic projections on an electronic video stage instead of a screen.Dr_CorndogI don't know. We haven't even begun to figure out the physical, let alone the computational, feats necessary to achieve even a still volumetric 3D image of an arbitrary electronic object into freespace.
Actually only game I buy semi for as a movie is Metal Gear Solid series, but I do like it gameplay too.ArisShadows

For example if you saw the movie I Robot. The Robot in the movie was as close to human as possible yet not.
well it seems square-enix are having problems developing a game on 1 system dew to exploding dev costs and a lot of devs are just too lazy to pay attention to detail.. so the price is just gonna go up and up if graphics could get this good.Dahaka-UKI for one am convinced that the developers who are going to be most successful from here on out are those who are small but efficient and highly skilled. This paradigm shift towards smaller groups with less overhead is being seen almost everywhere except for retail (which is losing ground to online sales in any case).

But right now those are running for upwards of 10K each and we don't have any idea about how to do something similar within actual 3-dimensional space (if its even possible) so while you are right I'm interested in the concept having seen some advanced flat surface holographic images.
Okay i see what it is. For example if you saw the movie I Robot. Uncanny Valley is a level of detail immediately before photorealism which is uncanny in how realistic and yet dissimilar to real life it is.
Ratchet & Clank Future will look that good.Runningflame570
it won't. With games like it or Crysis we are finaly aproaching Toy Story, it's close, but we're still not there yet

If you haven't noticed, these smaller groups even now are either shuttering up or allying themselves with or getting bought out by the big boys.
People forget about the perfect gaming machine.
Our very own mind.
Games will be far more beautiful and glamerous than anything You have ever seen, and nobody knows when it happens.
