I suspect that videogames will play a significant part of my free time for a long time.Arach666
Same here. It's become such an integrated part of my life, I just can't turn away from it. Worst case scenario I stop buying new games, but I'll always have the old ones.
Maybe fifty years from--if I'm still alive--the industry will be dead, and the question becomes void; or maybe, at that time, it might become the most influential form of expression of its time--destroying the "I'm to old to play video-games(if they're even called such by then)" argument. Or maybe, I'll just get tired of it. So will I ever give up on video games? Who the hell knows...
Like any other medium, I need a break from video games from time to time: I haven't read a book in months--well at least fiction--nor have I watched a movie in that amount of time for that matter.
I am almost certain I will give up video games at some point. I greatly dislike the direction that the industry is moving. If I am no longer able to purchase a physical copy and can only purchase a digital copy than I will stop buying games. If developers start to incorporate online/multiplayer components into the Campaign/Story Mode than I might end up quitting. If developers just scrap single player in general and go strictly online multiplayer than I will quit gaming.
If I see Facebook integration into all of my games I will quit (I severely hate Facebook and Twitter with a serious passion)
If it gets to the point where I can't even play games without internet connection than I will quit.
As much as I love video games. This mentality of constantly being connected and socialising 24/7 365 days a year is where the industry wants to go... I think I'd rather just stay behind.
If pc gaming dies maybe if consoles die as well and mobile gaming is all that left yes i will luckily pc is getting bigger each year and consoles are as strong as they have ever been so don't see ethier dying out anytime soon.
They did that with Demons/Dark Souls, and it's pretty awesome. I don't think all games should. They should keep single player, and get back to having local mp/splitscreen on top of online for mp. Just pointing out though, integrating online into the campaign has been done, and done well.I am almost certain I will give up video games at some point. Actually, I'm getting closer to giving up video games every day. Not voluntarily mind you. But I see it as a possibility. Because of other things in my life(wife, kid, job, 2nd job, etc) I have less time to game.
Also, because of the high price point for this gen as opposed to the low price point of last gen nowadays, I am exclusively a legacy gamer. And even that is a stretch because though I can afford legacy consoles/games I don't have as much time to play them as I used to. When I was 24 I pumped hundreds of hours into games like PSO/Shenmue I and II. At 34, I just don't have as much time. That is a fact.
And even though I make more money now than I did at 24, I have wayyy more expenses so I have less discretionary(i.e. VG related) income to spend, and much less time. I have also noticed for the first time in my life( and I go back to playing TI-99/4a as my first console) that not being a part of the current gen isn't the end of the world. Games like Ico, Yakuza, and Star Wars the force unleashed are still as fun today as they were on their release date imo.
So yes, if I have more kids or get laid off, I may even cease being a legacy gamer. But I hope not.
as a child I played a lot, as a teenager I played a lot, as an adult I play when I can and enjoy games less than I used to. it's not a rule, but I've become picky when it comes to videogames. also, I don't watch cartoons as I used to as a child/teen, except for the simpsons and more adult-oriented cartoons.
but I don't think I'll give up video games.
In the words of Charlton Heston... they'll have to take my controller from my cold dead hands!!
No, even when I'm 70yrs old I will probably still play video games if they still exist. I will eventually start selling most of my games, but I'll a large amount of them so I can play into my eldery life. They I'll had them all off to my grandkids after I pass.
