Dolphin version looks best. Stays true to the original style

the player models on the remake look awesome.

I respectfully disagree. I feel the only problem with the Wii U remake is that the character models are no longer cell shaded. They looked better in the GCN version.
Dafuq did they do to the water? I'm pissed now.charizard1605what did they do to the everything? the water looks stupid, they replaced the plants with "real plants", and they can't decide if the buildings and other assets (like rocks) should look like papercraft, look realistic, or just look like wind waker.
[QUOTE="darkspineslayer"]The top two, with a few exceptions like the cardboard trees at the top of the hill, are EXACTLY what the remake should look like.BrunoBRSi am so so glad you're not in charge. Me too. The Zelda fanbase would have my head on a pike. Sue me though, I don't like the styIe of the water.
WiiU looks the best to me. The top two are amateur levelMental Ray renders. Even the MR ocean shader they're using is at its default settings.
The Wii U one is the best looking to me definitely.
Maybe it's just me but the pics of the dolphin WW don't look that different from the original at all...
... and I also see they're using low res bump maps instead of normals for their surface detail.. and AEC extended foliage... and a direct light with no GI rather than a physical daylight system.
Really, I'm surprised some of you prefer that look. If you like it then you should download 3d studio Max and watch some tutorials. You could be generating visuals like that in a month.
your head applies the "crispy clear" filter on your memories :P if you put the game on and play now, you'll see it's kind of blurry and stretched. The Wii U one is the best looking to me definitely.

Ugh that 'realistic' water doesn't suit the styIe at ALL.
KungfuKitten
EXACTLY!!!
Are you guys fckn blind???
Having realistic graphics completely KILLS it!
It kills the point of it!
That's why TWW is so timeless,it used a unique, and SUPER beautiful graphical style.
[QUOTE="darkspineslayer"]Me too. The Zelda fanbase would have my head on a pike. Sue me though, I don't like the styIe of the water.BrunoBRSit's about consistency. the fanmade picture has no artistic consistency. it's just clashing everywhere. and that's really, really bad.

Figured as much.
The Wii U vesion seems to be much more of an improvement, and an improvement that is much more noticible.
I don't really see what's wrong with the Wii U version TBH. It's different sure but it'ss its;s still a very nice art-style.

Dolphin/ PC emulator looks like sh*t... the Wii U remake FTW
GreekGameManiac
Lol.
It;s the opposite,actually.
I like both actually, (Dolphin and WiiU that is). I've played it on the Dolphin and it looks great! Same game from years ago, just so crisp and clean! But I prefer the WiiU look.
That fan made sh*t though... bleh. Both technically and artistically, its a mess.

What does THAT have to do with how good it looks?
Seriously,a TWW that ditches the toon shading effect is pointless.
Those fan made renders look like they were done in an intro to surfacing/materials/shaders (whatever you like to call them) class. Very basic. Very poorly done.
Understandable as its probably some student just getting their feet wet in Maya.
Not understandable that some of you actually think it looks good. Its completely lost for direction. Almost looks like a terrible Wind Waker inspired collage.
As for the other two, I'm not sure yet. WW looks great on the Dolphin, I know from experience. The Wii U version looks very nice as well, but I need to see more of the game. As of right now, I would take the Wii U version just because its so different from what I expect from WW.
No sh1t, The only thing Dolphin does in term of graphics is that you can play the game at higher resolutions like 1080p or 1600p And have huge frame-rates like 60FPS.Dolphin/ PC emulator looks like sh*t... the Wii U remake FTW

Oops, I forgot to mention "60FPS or more"yeah i'm on the same boat (pun unintended). i really like the original style, but i don't think the new one is bad.Figured as much.

lol dat wiiu water. they sure didn't want to add reflections cuz it would've made no sense ya? No...silversix_
Actually, it wouldn't. It would clash with the style more than anything. They could have faked reflection even in the orignal WW, but luckily they had good art directors that understand what works and what doesn't.
Clean reflection and refraction has no place in this visual styIe. What they should do is take their faked caustics and improve upon that and I'm sure they will as the caustics were nothing more than an animated texture. MAYBE have some color bleed and hazy reflections for point light sources.
Lol ray-trancing.. something that consoles will see rendered in real time probably in 7 gens from now. Those first two pictures are from a old ray-traced project someone worked on.

What a dumb statement.
[QUOTE="3Guilty_4Spark3"]LOL no. The WiiU version shyts all over that version, This is for hermits who are too proud to buy a WiiU so they use dolphin instead. Enjoy your poverty Wind Waker. The dolphin WW looks the best.

Actually,he has a point,idiot.
Atleast Dolphin one retains the cartoony effect.

The Dolphin version doesn't have Crysis-like water!!!
That was a fanmade version.

tell that to carmack. ;) :cool:I highly doubt Carmack said that and if he did then it was pure hyperbole.
Lets just assume that consoles have another 7 gens left. At the very minimum that would be 35 years.
Real time ray tracing is already a reality today. It requires some hefty hardware and is not applicable to gaming as far as I know, but its already here. To think that in 35+ years from now that it would still be out of reach is a bit silly.
Also, ray tracing is not a necessity for amazing graphics. So much of that quality can (and will) be faked in the years to come.
I like the fan render but also feel that the lifelike water (it needs more blue as in the big blue sea!) and then the cardboard like forests entry was odd.
The WiiU one imo destroys the Dolphin one though. Yeah the Dolphin one may look cleaner but that lighting looks very nice for Windwaker. That bright sunny day on an island just fits.
So is this a confirmed remake, or is it just a remaster (all Nintendo PR talk aside)?Blabadon
It looks like a remaster with a good deal more effort than what we usually see. Instead of simply upping the resolution and slapping on some AA it seems they're actually making texture improvements across the board and improving the lighting model significantly.
So still just a new coat of paint, but one applied with care.
Of course I'm just basing this off a handful of screens, so I could be wrong, but its my best guess.
So is this a confirmed remake, or is it just a remaster (all Nintendo PR talk aside)?Blabadonwell we don't know if those visuals are the ones they'll actually use on the final game (as it could be interpreted as "here, that's how wind waker looked when we messed around with it, and BTW, we are remaking it", kinda like the TP HD demo), but we know what they said they want to work on, which were those 4 things pointed out during the nintendo direct.
