Right now, tablets like the iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab (with Android OS) are selling like hotcakes, and many of these devices are being used for games. Well, pretty soon we will see a massive wave of Windows 7 tablet PCs coming up, and Microsoft will be showing off a number of these devices at CES in a few weeks.

Think of the possibilities this will have for PC gaming. Windows 7 is perfect for gaming, plus its an EXTREMELY versatile OS (it works great on a touchscreen, believe it or not), and its much better than iOS and Android. Think of all the games you can play on a Windows 7 tablet PC. What if Steam begins selling games designed for tablets? I love Steam, so Windows 7 on a tablet would be a massive step forward for PC gaming.

Your thoughts? :)

Most current games don't work that well on tablets. Believe me, I know- I have a tablet PC with Windows 7 and it's nothing special. Plants vs Zombies works well and I actually like playing NWN with it...but most other games work like crap with it.

Every attempt at MS getting into the market with google/apple has been an failure, so I am skeptical.

There is another company out there with about a 200,000 app head start, on an app store designed specifically for touch-enabled devices........ Windows7 on a tablet won't make it any better for gaming.

The reason why their previous attempts have been unsuccesful was because most hardware manufacturers (Acer, HP, Dell, etc) were completely uninterested in the whole idea several years ago. Nowadays everybody wants a slice of iPads sucess, so Acer and HP aren't going to let this oppurtunity fly past them again :)

If Windows 7 gains even a small success withtablet PCs, then touch-enabled games will soar for it. These tablets are being marketed as cross-breeds between an iPad and a netbook, so the potential is great :)

Windows 7 doesn't need "apps" like Android and iOS do. Think of Steam, which will work on these tablets. Think of Flash game websites. Remember, PC gaming is completely open. There is no "app approval" required like the App store. Developers are completely free do what they like :)

Plain and simply no, why? first of all, the hardware in a tablet is ludcriously underpowered, and is more similiar in performance to a phone than an actual PC. Second of all, try figuring out a proper control scheme thats tolerable to use for more than 15 minutes, without the use of buttons.

Right, they can do whatever they want. Have you seen the Android app store?...Pretty scary place. :? And not all games are going to work on a tablet just because it has Windows 7. They will only work if the developers create them with a touch-interface in mind, which is what the iOS App store has had for years.

I have a Lenovo S10-3T netbook. It has a capacitive touch screen, so I use my finger. I should warn you that this particular netbook isn't very beefy in terms of power- only an N450 Atom processor and a GMA 3150 GPU. If you run the game entirely on low at 1024x600, you'll get mid to upper teens in terms of framerate (though you can't zoom out far), which is ok in NWN. If you wanted something a bit beefier, Fujitsu has a notebook that converts to a tablet (like mine, so the keyboard is covered by the screen facing out that has more power under the hood). Anyway, it plays pretty well with the stock UI. I use the overhead cam that automatically swings behind you. That'll give you one bar for actions as well as basic attacks, resting, leveling up and whatnot. As a little trick I discovered, you can actually pull out the onscreen keyboard while playing. I moved this to the far right of the screen with most of it off the screen except for the most leftward keys on a keyboard. This allowed me to use shift and ctrl, so I could use the other hotbars in the game. The only thing I can't really do is pause the battle. I find it pretty fun. Early next month, I'm going to give it a rigorous test as I fly across the world playing it on a plane. If this system had some more power (less for the improved graphics but I'd rather pull the camera out a bit further), I'd say it was an awesome experience.

If they do pick up, developers will make games run good on tablets too, support resolutions etc This is why W7 tablets are so important for mobile gaming

There will be some Nvidia Ion 2 tablets coming out next year with Windows 7. It will be able to play games like SC2 on lower settings. The Nvidia Ion 2 is pretty much a dual core atom + a Nvidia 9400m.

One company refuses to allow something a basic as flash on their tablet, and with any luck that will be their undoing.

I dont see the point of gaming on a tablet until they are able to improve the devices to the point that they're able to play just about any game. Even most laptops are not that great for gaming.

Tablet gaming is stupid and serves no purpose. And it's also not a PC. It's an interim between a smartphone and a laptop and a completely unnecessary niche market. Tablets are for "airplane" or "couch"use. Supposedly they're the best for that purpose, but we all know quite well that a laptop can be used on an airplane and a game console can be used on the couch just as effectively as a tablet can... It's just a silly device. I care not at all about it.

Yeah bring on the HD ping pong!! Although a few games would do well on these platforms such as Starcraft 2, thats mostly point and click so could work fairly well...

In terms of GPU performance, AMD APU netbooks would blow away Nintendo 3DS, Sony PSP2, Nintendo Wii, Intel Atom based netbooks, Intel i5 IGP, PowerVR (tablet based ARM-PVR IGP based CGPU), Intel Standybridge IGP Mobile and 'etc'.

A netbook isnt a tablet pc , a tablet pc is somethign that is touchscreen only if I am correct. And you have no clue what the specs of hte PSP2 are . even if it wasnt technicaly more powerful the PSP2 would be superior due to the pure fact it has actualy controls rather then crappy touch screens.

Flash is bad for batteries, bad for performance, and doesn't work consistently enough across the websites in which it is a featured (because Flash was made with mouse-over in mind, not touch screens). The pitiful Flash abilities on Android should be more than enough proof of that. Bit updates are coming in Flash 10.2, which may make it a viable option for mobile devices in the near future. Maybe.

With the PC, it's all about options. In ACER Tablet PC youtube link, the tablet PC product can be converted into a netbook i.e. plug-in a ACER's netbook size keyboard.

My ASUS EeePC tablet PC is both a Tablet PC and a netbook PC, but it needs a better CGPU solution. AMD's netbook level APUs would suit this requirement. AMD's Zacate/Ontario APUs is aimed Intel's Atom market. Including mini-HDMI/mini-DVI port would nice too i.e. for MS PowerPoint slides and Netflix type video downloads.

Atm, only with AMD APUs i.e. DX11 tablet PC/netbook CGPU solution. Intel Atom+NVIDIA ION2 is not quite CGPU type solution.
