WIRED confirms that Wii software outsold 360 software in December NPD

Matt Cassamassina over at IGN has access to the full set of NPD data, not just the top tens, and he said something very interesting on their last podcast: Wii software actually outsold Xbox 360 software this month.
I've contacted NPD for confirmation, but so far all they've told me is that on the list of Top 100 software titles for December, 20 Wii games charted, versus 18 Xbox 360 games.
Even more importantly, only5 of those 20 games were from Nintendo.

I am going out on a lim and say even if you had the list you would still find someway to fault it. And one person shovelware is another person just fan game. I own and enjoy Mario and Sonic, Mario Party 8 and Carnival Games which I am sure you would call shovelware. Yes they could have been done better but hey it did not keep me from having fun playing them.

Thanks for posting, but the NPD was posted a few days ago. The only people still denying it are the misinformed and fanboys. and it won't matter, there'll just switch from 'software sales are all that matter' to 'sales don't matter at all!'darkslider99

The search yeilds no results, and I very much doubt that the full list complete with sales numbers would have been posted here, otherwise some insolent sheep would've posted it here by now.

I'm not disputing the fact that the Wii sold the most software at all, but I did say that it can be attributed to bundled game WiiPlay and WiiSports (which is counted as software sales everywhere else, so I see no reason for it not to be included in the NPD).

I know sheep are only barnyard animals, but how about a dose of Reading Comprehension 101 before you start rattling off ridiculous comments that I don't care to address.

is that part of your assumptions? NPD tracks sales. wiisports doesn't count as software sales in the US. go google NPD december sales if you want. you'll find top ten lists of software that don't include wiisports which if it was counted would be in the top ten.

Let's do him the favor of not counting this particular title. That still leaves Wii sales in the top 100 outnumbering 360 sales in the top 100 by 1. It also increases the ratio of 3rd parties to 1st/2nd parties. So if we do remove WiiPlay. We still come out on top for sure, and it does even more to prove that 3rd party support is alive and well in all areas of the Wii's value chain.

Wii software selling on par with 360 software in the most important retail month of the year is a big deal. With the rate the Wii's userbase is growing, it's a sure sign of Nintendo's dominance down the road.

Games are referred to as units as well when you're talking sales.JayPee89
