You can't do a thing on the Other Consoles/Handhelds when they are updating.
Downloading stuff for the PS3 is just slow.
PS3 games download in the background but you have to watch them install.caseypayne69Maybe because the PS3 would die trying to install and play games at the same time. Also, generally when you have a proper update, and not some piddly tiny tweak of an update, you have to let the machine do what its doing. After all it is reamping the foundation on which your games run on.
No console lets you do anything when a game is downloading.charizard1605
Actually yes you can, or did you mean..."No, consoles let you do anything when a game is download." ? Otherwise you really need to check you facts/blind hatred.
Guess this is why we need Apple in the market. ------------------------- Why, so we pay $900 for a console? I'm glad my PS3 doesn't perform like my Apple hardware. I had to send my iPod in 3 times in the first year I owned it to have the battery replaced. Apple is waaay overpriced and overrated.forrester_fire
Not sure if I believe "3 times in 1st year". But I had 2 ipods (one a Ipod Nano, one a 1st generation IPOD touch). Both crapped out on me after 12-18 months. I always took care of them as well. Considering how overpriced they are I'm done with Apple products - if I care to get a standalone MP3 again it will be a Sony - or perhaps even a generic like a Sandisk. It's actually a shame Microsoft decided to leave this market, they never got a strong foothold but at least they had potential to be a competitor.

No BS. The straw that broke the camels back was when it quit taking a charge as I was getting ready to leave on a ski trip. I had to run to best buy, at the last minute, and buy the Samsung I've had ever since (4 or 5 years now). It was one of the 20GB, early generation, with the hard drive. This was before the touch or the nano were on the market.Yeah, Apple has better software than most, but at least Sony's hardware is more solid and is'nt as overpriced. Which is more important with a console.
Guess this is why we need Apple in the market. To show the other companies how to make a stream lined services. MS jumped in with Xbox to teach Sony and Nintendo how to do online, now we Need Apple to show how to streamline software.caseypayne69MS did not jump into the market to teach anyone how to do online, the the original xbox wasn't online on launch, and in fact after saying it would be free,MS changed their mind charged for it as well as for the DVD remote. MS got in to win the market. I don't want apple over priced and garbage products on the console market no thanks, that same company sell the damn Iphone4 without contract now for $649 dollars, that crap cost just $170 dollars to make, imagine how expensive and under power a console from apple would be,they would have a wii for $500 dollars and would call it the most revolutionary thing ever.and apple crazy fans would buy it.
All downloads are slow on the PS3, it's just one of them things. Go and do something else whilst you're downloading.

Downloading things for the PS3 works just like any other connection, check your mine download very fast. Thats strange as my downloads on the PS3 are generally slower than what one expect for the connection I have. Whats even stranger it seems to be a consensus that most PS3 users have noticed slower speeds....Hmmmm Denial?I always wondered why updates for games on Sony games are always huge compared to the same update for the 360 version. RR360DDEstablished standards on Xbox 360; the latest patch is downloaded and there's a maximum size limit for a patch--that way you're not waiting hours on end to download a large patch. (I'm looking at you MAG) Or you're not forced to download 6 or 7 patches if the game is rather dated (I'm looking at you Uncharted 2), instead only the latest patch is applied to Xbox 360 games.
Not sure what Apple product you are talking about TC, but my iPod Touch 4th gen sure won't let me do anything while it's updating. All I get is the picture of the cable and disc on the screen. Not to mention almost every time it updates it seems to want to delete everything out of the memory and re-install it all from itunes. Because for some reason it seems to think that it is now on another computer, and heaven forbid I would dare use another computer to update an ipod with itunes.
Yeah I know you can fix this by turning off the synch, and manually moving songs / apps back and forth, but why should you have to? Man itunes is some seriously broken software.
Edit: Just re-read OP, and realized TC was talking about a future Apple update (iOS 5.0)...not that Apple has the ability to update and do other things now.....never mind. So comparing a current PS3 firmware 3.66 against a future Apple firmware 5.0...that's fair.

Yep, PSN is definitely slower. The importance of that depends on your patience. I don't notice it much because, being a PC gamer, consoles generally just seem slow to me.

Do we really need another console pusher sucking up exclusives and multiplats?

Yeah I really dislike iTunes, I wish it was more like Zune. It slowly is getting features that Zune has had for a while, but it is quite frustrating transfering files, and just managing them in general. No they are not is the fact that similar download on XBL and shorter in size,so you get the impression that PSN is slow, and update on PSN is like 160 MB,on live is just a couple of MB like 32 MB or something like that,so you get the impression that live is faster, also it doesn't help that you have to install things after download,on 360 you don't,but speed wise my connection take the same it would take on PC.All downloads are slow on the PS3, it's just one of them things. The consensus around 360 fans maybe, download speed were slow back in 2006 2007,now now a download on my PS3 takes the same time it took on my PC,many people are the same, connection doesn't always have to do with your platform, but your connection or how much people around you use the same service, and even port problems.Installing a game uses lots of hard drive bandwidth, not to mention ram, which the consoles lack. If you tried to install something on your PS3 and play a game at the same time the game would be unplayable.

When the IOS5 update comes for IPhone, touch and IPad. It will offer Delta updates going forward and wirelessly. No longer plugging into the pc. Apple is trying to cut the cord on it's products and a PC. You guys need to watch the Apple Keynote that happened the same time as MS's E3. Watch ICloud. If I take a pic on my iPhone it instantly appears on my PC and IPad. No longer a need to synch devices to keep all your media. Watch the Keynote on this link. http://www.apple.com/Not sure what Apple product you are talking about TC, but my iPod Touch 4th gen sure won't let me do anything while it's updating.
