http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/02/10/we-look-better-the-witcher-2-dev-calls-out-dragon-age-2s-graphics/

"How would you distinguish your game from Dragon Age 2?" Here's what he said.

Tomas Gop: "That's quite easy, actually. There are a few things that I can easily find. First, we don't have a generic fantasy world. I mean [the author] Andrzej Sapkowski spent a huge part of his life doing this. It's comfortable for us. It's consistent, it's really working. Everything is kind of logical in this world, and it works out well for us. The other thing–I don't really think it is possible to distinguish some of the things you're choosing between as 'good or bad' or 'good and evil.' We always like to think about when you have a choice in The Witcher, it's more like what I would actually do.

It's not black and white, and that's the most important thing. And we look better. I mean, sorry, seriously–I love Bethesda, BioWare games, I play them. But, c'mon. You cannot be indifferent to that, you cannot omit the difference. We simply look better."

It's funny they have the stones to call out Bioware on graphics even though Witcher 1 used a modified NWN engine and looked pretty bad.

It was going to be but M$ put a stop to that. :x

Toeeeeeemaaaaaaaasssss is right though, Witcher looks much better, and its choices aren't black and white. Like the "Save family or brutally murder them and drink their eyeball fluid" choices that Bioware games tend to have.

Yeah exactly...

With the Witcher 2 coming to consoles I don't see how DA2 is gonna compete if Witcher 2 looks directly at DA2

But you need to note that the DO2 screen is gameplay while the Witcher screen is during an in-game cut-scene wich tend to be of much higher quality than real time gameplay.

ofc the Witcher 2 will look way better. One game engine takes advantage of modern hardware. The other engine does what it can with 6 years old hardware.

True, but that was their first game and now they're using their own tech to build their second game, and by the looks of it, it blows away anything Bioware have done.

That's the in game engine in the cutscene for witcher 2. It looks that detailed in the game.

Style-wise, absolutely - Dragon Age is generic fantasy through and through. Then again, so is the Witcher - but at least their character design is more interesting.

Believe what? It was a multi-platform engine from the start. It's not some PC engine like the Cryengine 2, made to push PC graphics to the max. It's a multi-platform engine like any other. They say that have demos on the consoles and it works perfectly.

The Witcher 2 is not an open world game, nor it has any amazing physics... From what I've seen the environments are very constricted, a lot more consticted than the original. Dunno why people are hyping it as a graphical masterpiece or something.

Metro 2033 ring a bell? a multiform engine as well that can challenge crysis. They havent even started work on the console ports of the witcher 2 yet you know. Witcher 2 is open world, the game is one of the few that actually make good use of havok physics as well. You have said before that you barely followed this game, so why do you keep saying these things

Nothing I've seen of The Witcher 2 is convincing me that it will come near Metro 2033.

It doesn't really look better than most multi-plats...and has the min requirements of most multi-plats...

Haven't been following development, but i saw some gameplay in a forest, in a town....All corridors. What's so impressive about that?

If this was anyone else they'd be bashed to hell for being overly arrogant; even if they were right. I mean people bash CryTek for claiming they have the best graphics; then turn around and say it themselves. Regardless, he speaks the truth. I just hate the double standards on System Wars and it makes it impossible to take anything seriously. Not one thing.

I'm sure it'll blow DA2 out of the water graphically, but I found The Witcher to be just as boring and generic in the story/setting and morality departments as DA:O, and at least DA:O had some quality dialogue and voice-acting.

Meh, Witcher 1 was a generic old style WRPG that would have been quickly forgotten if it hadn't been released as an exclusive PC RPG in such a weak period for PC RPGs. Frankly, Dragon Age isn't any better, but neither of these games is a sequel to anything really all that wonderful. Maybe they'll do better this time, but both DA and The Witcher were good but forgettable games.

Anyways, bragging about graphics, combat animations, etc, in an RPG... Missing the point - especially when their first game wasn't exactly incredibly written/acted. I hope that's not what they spent a lot of their time and budget on.

That all being said, I'm pretty sure I'll end up playing both games and enjoying them - but if they'll have to do a lot more than spruce up the graphics in The Witcher to get me to look back on it fondly five or ten years from now.

As I said in the other thread, Bioware continues to decline in terms of how deep their games are, CD Projeckt has room to grow, with The Witcher being their first game and running a service like GOG, they have done better for the gaming industry then Bioware as of late, who think its a grand idea to introduce more shooters and less depth into the industry.

Eh, I'll pass on DA2 for a while and I love WRPG's. DA itself wasn't that great of a game, it was good, but definitely no where near The WItcher in my book. DA2 looks worse...
