Graphics are the least of Dragon Age's problems.

The first game was a ****ing waste of time; it was an endless combat slog, and a poorly designed one at that. The gameworld was tiny and shallow; the story was awful, besides being incredible generic. How anyone managed to squeeze one iota of enjoyment out of that trash is beyond me.

Now we have a DLC gutted sequel pumped out in no time at all that looks to be exactly the same sort of thing, only worse, and there's people (real BioWare fans, amirite?) actually defending this monstrosity?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not confused about that last bit; it does take all kinds gentlemen, and perhaps BioWare games simply must exist so that everyone else can have nice things (New Vegas, for instance).

The barrel does need a bottom, after all.

Or maybe, just maybe, there are people out there who actually enjoyed DAO and are looking forward to DA2, such as myself?

I buy it; true fanboys will buy and praise any pice of garbage put in front of them as long as it has the right brand lable. True Brand Loyalty is blind, But I can't justify buying DA 2 after DAO not when it looks exactly the same and with Skyrim and Project Dark around the corner.

No one calls DAO2 "horrible" looking. DAO looked nice, the sequel looks nice. The Witcher 2 is strides ahead though, it looks rather stunning.

???? I have played DAO which is what we were talking about pl read MORE Carefully

Ah, I see. Sorry mate long day at work today. DAO didn't look bad on PC along with the JBtexture mod however on the console counterpart I cannot say the same. I would agree that DA2 may look underwhelming compared to other rpg's on the market but I think the game might deliver in gameplay.

Yes Consoles were beyond bad looking yet still some how scored high how or why I don't know, but with that said PC version wasn't the prettiest thing either even on max settings.

Yeah, I didn't find it to be that bad graphically. I liked the game overall just fine, don't like what their doing with the sequel but meh. The Witcher 2 is looking to be exactly what I wanted in a sequel to the witcher.

It looks fine, isn't it open world? For PC, maybe it should look better, for the consoles though I prefer the cleaner look over what would have been ugly game which tries to be very detailed but isn't.

Also does it use the same engine as ME2? ME2 had smaller environments for the most part and no AA. I noticed the console version of DAO had 2xAA and was open world of course.

There are people who enjoyed DAO a lot. I just finished couple hours ago my 10th playthrough. Now I'm ready for DA2.

Thank you! Glad to see someone else enjoyed the game. True, DAO had some shortcomings (stiff animations, the Fade being a massive chore and post-release content was awful), but overall, DAO was my #1 RPG of 2009. I am interested in DA2 but I don't think I will be buying on release just because I know there will be a lot of post-release content that will drive up the cost of ownership (plus $60 when DAO was $50? no thanks).

I have alot of complaints about DAO but that didn't stop the fact that I spent some 130 to 150 hours playing it..

DAO wasnt bad. I got it a year ago, played far into it, got bored, put it down, picked it up this weekend, played for 20 hours this weekend, got addicted again and now im buying DA2 next month. The game is not without its flaws, which explains why i put it down for nearly a year, however it does have a lot of good points to it, like the combat system.

But I enjoyed Dragon Age: Origins, and I did not enjoy Black Ops. I'm simply using scores to help backup my own opinion.

I don't really get what you're aiming at...you baiting bro? Maybe you should play DAO on pc.

Right, because any product enjoyed by anybody can never have anything to do with the merits of that said product, but because of brand loyalty. Jesus, the garbage in this thread that people are trying to pull off as solid, factual information..

Real fans of Bioware don't care about the graphics. Was Mass Effect the first Bioware game you played?Karnage108

But I do care about the quality of the graphics, because thats linked to the engine. DAO ran horribly after a few hours on my pc due to memory leaks, and I had to restart all the time, not to mention that for the quality of the graphics even on max settings I was not able to get as smooth of a framerate as I feel my PC should. For ME1 (ugly and choppy) compared to ME2 it was like night and day, I got a beautiful steady 60FPS with the graphics being very pretty in ME2 and it made the experience very much more enjoyable. When people say "graphics" in general they mean more than screenshots, and yes it very very much matters to me, as hardcore a bioware gamer as they come.

^ I agree.

DAII had demanding requirements for a game like this, why need 2.4 ghz quad core and 4gb ram and look ugly? If it's like the 1st then I don't see why it's high.

I'm sorry, but I think it's crazy to say that Oblivion was anything but incredible. And after mods? It's a bilion hour open world fantasy game. Absolutely brilliant. I'm almost positive that Skyrim will be even better.

As for The Witcher 2, after reading the latest PC Gamer preview, I can't help but get excited for it. Everything about it looks to be amazing.

DA2 looks...lackluster. Between the on-disc DLC, the massive casualization, and the already uncompelling world, I don't think I'm going to get it unless somebody I know personally tells me it's great. Can't really trust reviews with big name games like that.

Real fans of bioware woulden't put up with this watered down RPG experiance. :o

TO be fair unless you played previous Bio Ware titles i wouldn't say that. DAO is a great take on the old formula as it stands the best out there. I wish it was Harder and more D&D but damn its well done regardless of what you think and is the only recent attempt at such games. Heres hoping for Neverwinter Nights 3 shame they milked number 2 with to many expansions mind!

then how do you explain ME2's success

110million

bazing!

lol, there is a very easy answer: ME and ME2's success was not the contribution of existing/previous bioware fans, i.e the ones from the BG era.

psh. i owned shattered steel, you bandwagon kids. ;D no, though - it's anecdotal, but 90% of the people i know that owned and loved BG1/2 are jumping all over DAO and ME1/2 like ravenous wolves, me included. with Jade Empire there's at least some debate. (edit: and actually, unmodded + non-expansion-pack NWN singleplayer - i really didn't like it, and a lot of friends shared the same POV)

seems like most of the people hating on DA2 in this thread hated DAO anyway.

Oblivion was a bit "meh" compared to Morrowind, I admitt. But was damn fun. Fallout 3 was great (I never played Fallout 1,2, or Tactics). And lets be frank, Skyrim is bringing back at least the enchant skill (hopefully Unarmoured is next:D). The 3 skills that have been taken away may mean a bunch have bene combined together, Like Mysticisim was taken away, but all it's spells have been added to the different Magic skills.

I think Bioware is sort of taking the Blizzard route (excluding SC2) in that they want to make their games accessible to as many people as possible, thus the graphics may not be top of the line, but the artstyle compensates for that, well atleast in blizzards case :P

Dragon Age Origins was better than Witcher.

So Witcher 2 is the game that should improve a lot.

I think it looks fairly nice. Medium is the highest possible graphical seting in the demo, so you shouldn't judge the game from that.

After playing DA2, I think I found it harder than Origins. Not only has it been ruined, but the way you can't stack input's just makes the game play completely unintuitive.

I was absolutely convinced that I was going to buy it, even though I was expecting it to be a downgrade from the original... but that demo's gameplay was just appalling. It's like everyone's worst fears came true, even though Bioware kept denying it and telling us that the PC version plays like Origins, it does not. Not even close.

Bioware has never been the most technically gifted studio and they still aren't but what will be more important is how the game plays. I just wish they had worked on Neverwinter rather than Dragon Age 2, their record for multi-plats isn't as good as their record for PC games. Baldurs Gate & NWN > any RPG they have done multi-plat. Don't judge them as a developer on what they have done when have to get the game working on limited platforms to reach large audiences. The Old Republic should be good but again they are probably straying from their strength for more money... Good old EA ruined Origin and now maybe Bioware?

Medium is the highest possible graphical seting in the demo, so you shouldn't judge the game from that.svenus97
