"When making it, we made certain not to cut ourselves off from the ability to make a game for current generation consoles at any point."
"One (of the goals in mind) was to create technology that would allow us to make a game that doesn't require futuristic hardware to run."
So 3 years after release, the mid-range 8800 GT can still play every major PC game out there!

I don't think current consoles can handle it. I can definitely see the next gen, but this one is iffy. Its like JC2, yeah it was on consoles but PC had the better version.
Minimum is 8800GT?
This means that this game is either very unoptimised or the new graphics king.I mean, you can play crysis on high with a single 8800GT,but this will run on lowest.

Something tells me this game should just stay on PC, chances are it won't sell that great on consoles especially if they don't advertise it. On top of that they would need to find a publisher for it which could be a problem.Minimum is 8800GT?

Or they're moving away from old tech. The cards below a 8800GT aren't exactly power houses. And the 8000 series is 2006 tech, same time the PS3 and Wii came out. I'm still hoping for DX10/DX11 support. They don't have the time/resources to make it work with lesser hardware probably. Trying to optimize it for the widest PC audience and I believe the video said that very statement.
The Witcher 2 on current consoles is very far fetched. Not only are they very weak, the developer doesn't have a big budget/ect to work with. What they've managed to do on the PC is mind blowing. The engine may be multiplatform, but that doesn't mean other games/companies won't be using it. They could have another RPG in the works for consoles for all we know. As long as the PC version sells well, I really don't think CD projekt red will be porting it. It's a true PC game from what we've seen so far. It might just be the next graphics king.
for the first time ever, im jealous of the PC.. i want this game soo bad.. looks awesome

Hey if you ever get a new computer soon good news, it doesn't require a beast of a computer to run.
lets hope it sells a a few million then.. cmon pc gamers!!![QUOTE="mattuk69"]
I said it before and ill say it again. A console port will be determined on how well it sells on PC.
ultraking
I think he meant if it sells like **** it'll come to consoles. If it sold a few million that'd not only be fantastic news for the developer, but it'd encourage them to stay with PC since they obviously are doing something right and they're defying the odds. Plus devs get more money from PC per purchase than consoles due to many factors.
A lot of work would have to be done to tone it down for consoles. Plus like someone said earlier they'd also need to find a publisher.

Couldn't they use the engine and make a spin off for consoles?soulitane
Wonder if they'd consider bringing the first to consoles. See if the console market even wants The Witcher.

I thought there were plans to do that but they scrapped the idea and focussed on the witcher 2.Here it is, not sure if it was meant to be a port or what but there were plans to bring the IP to console.

The Witcher 2 actually won't be the first major PC game to have a minimum requirement of an 8800 card. Just Cause 2 [link], Darksiders [link] and Metro 2033 [link] all claimed to have an 8800 as a minimum requirement.Minimum is 8800GT?

New graphics king.
This is also my most hyped game for next year bar-none. I will be able to max it out for sure, but The Witcher was my favorite RPG of this gen, and the adventure will be oh so much sweeter after playing another certain RPG.. er.. hack and slash game coming out a couple months before it.

I really get the exact opposite impression from their interviews, to be honest. I think they will officially begin work on the console ports immediately after the PC release, regardless of sales. They keep unnecessarily mentioning in interviews that they want to make a console port, even though that information is of little interest to PC gamers. It's clear that they don't want to lose the attention of console gamers. And CD Projeckt has shown that they care about the console market. They tried to fund a console port of the original game, but became frustrated by Widescreen Games' technical incapability and lateness. Sharing the same engine with consoles helps to solve one of the biggest reasons behind Rise of the White Wolf's failure.
If they truly made sure, as they claim, "not to cut ourselves off from the ability to make a game for current generation consoles at any point", then I think they'll definitely start work on a console version in earnest after the PC release.

I think they were off on those requirements.
Right next to the Just Cause 2 they also listed the HD2600Pro which is a lot weaker.
On the Darksiders they listed the 220gt which is much much weaker than an 8800gt.
Metro 2033 also lists a 220GT.
.
So the requirements are a bit off.
I think the 220GT and HD2600Pro are the true minimum and as I have said they are much much weaker than an 8800gt.

They said in one review that they would wait until the end of 2011 and then see what they can do with a console version.
My guess is that they will not like the limitations and that they will instead develop the game for next gen consoles.
They would receive the dev kit for those consoles much earlier than the actual release date of the consoles.
Developers have done this before.
Like Half Life 1 being released in 1998 but not coming to consoles until 2001 for the PS2.
hopefully a 3ghz dual core 2 will be enough, i dont want to upgrade to a 6 core yet
and im wondering about the map sizes/loading screens

HaloinventedFPS
The game only has 3 loading screens overall.
The way they stream everything has new areas load as you play.
You dual core should be alright but it also depends on your video card too.

I don't think it's necessarily off; because they wrote 8800 series/220 GT. They could of put 9600gt, 230gt or 240gt instead.
The 220GT is not much better than an 8600gt.
There is a huge gap between the 8600gt to 8800gt.
The 8600gt barely performs better than a 7600gt and an 8800gt performs much better than two 7800gtx in SLI.
I don't see any posibility of The Witcher 2 being ported to this gen consoles. Can't wait for the PC version though. I'm absolutely stoked for it. Still need to go pre-order that damn collectors edition.
ChubbyGuy40
Well, there is 100% posibility, since it is confirmed, it is not a matter of "if" but "when".
The engine is made with consoles in mind, so the port will take a few months
If Rage and Crysis 2 can run on consoles fine, Witcher 2 will run 10x better since it is nowhere near those titles visually

Yeah i wouldnt say that. The reason they hold back is because the consoles are limiting their engine's capabilities and neither crysis 2 or rage look as good as the witcher 2. For one, rage has prebaked shadows and obvious low geometry on charaters and low quality textures here and there.Yeah i wouldnt say that. It's no use arguing with him. He is the ban dodger who goes by many names and is one of the biggest Xbox 360 fanboys of all time.
He already stated that Fabel 3 looks a million times better than The Witcher 2.
So logic does not work on him.

I do agree there's a pretty big difference between a 220 GT and an 8800 (even an 8800 GS). But anyway,no one could say that the system requirements for The Witcher 2 are in any way high.If a PC gamer doesn't have at least an 8800 series card in the year 2011, then they're likely either console gamers or not in the game's target audience. A console version would, like you said, almost certainly have compromises but I don't think that will stop them. The worst case scenario is another Metro 2033-like port.
Waiting until next generation consoles would be risky. We have no idea when the next generation will arrive, the regular patterns of old have been disrupted by Move, Kinect and the rise of casual gaming. The Metro 2034 developers believe that the next generation of consoles is more than 3 years away. [link] If true, The Witcher 2 will definitely be old hat.
Even Half-Life was originally slated for a 2000 release on the Dreamcast (a system which was released in 1998, the same year the PC game came out).
Minimum is 8800GT?

A 8800GT surely can't play Crysis very well on high at 1680*1050 or 1920*1080 and I expect you meant without any AA.
It's a very fair system requirement all things considered IMO.
