No doubt about it, Nintendo is in the best position right now. Myself, like others, are beginning to tire of the same ol same ol on the 360/PS3. There are other threads similar to this one stating that Nintendo is jumping the gun, but they are doing everything right, imo. A TWO YEAR HEAD START? That's a massive headstart, especially considering people with Wiis are ready for something new. The system was never that expensive in the first place, so upgrading after buying a wii, even if it was just 2 or 3 years ago, is not a big deal.
Nintendo also retains core fans that buy because of the mario/zelda/metroid deal. If the 3DS is any indicator, based on price and what is arriving, they are striving to grab that snes crowd. If this happens, that could spell doom for one of the other two, imo. The 2 year advantage will allow them to have 2nd gen software on the shelf before the others even release their systems. This is almost guaranteed installed base--which in tern guarantees them as the premier 3rd party platform.
