With today's news, the 360 is only confirmed to win out even more

Seriously, they must be having a party, complete with cake and icecream, over at Sony. I bet that they are laughing a lot over there. Sony is done- by trying to increase sales by selling off their remaining supplies of 60gig PS3s, they are just going back to $600 consoles, which apparently people don't want to buy. Gamers everywhere know it too (just read EVERY major gaming forum), and nobody thinks that this is a good move on Sony's part, especially after a strong E3. Not 2 days after, they completely screw everything up.

Also keep in mind that developers keep up with this news too. If I were a developer, I would be very wary of developing exclusive PS3 titles, since the people running the show at Sony are obviously either crazy or dumb. The 360, at this point, is by far the safer bet to develop for, and this cannot be denied.

just because they decided only to talk about 2007 games doesnt automatically make it a brilliant strategy. sure its a solid lineup for this holiday season, no doubt. but for E3 people want to see surprises and new announcements, not the same old stuff.

Kaz Hirai himself says the one SKU strategy is the plan. He told Scandinavian website VGTV, "[We do not] have a 2 SKU strategy in the US, we learned very quickly customers respond better to having one SKU than two. We dropped the price on the 60GB model, as you know that model is no longer in production, once it's no longer on store shelves it will just be the $600 SKU."

They had a theme which they announced from the start; that being that every game they look at in the conference will be available on store shelves before christmas. They were trying to solidify the point that this is probably one of the best winters in gaming history, as every single game they showed off was coming in the next two or three months. And they showed off a lot. The only exception was at the end with the RE5 teaser.

Another E3 Winding Down, Plus a Quick Clarification

Well, we're in the home stretch! A new format for E3 brought a new look and feel, a few challenges and most importantly a great opportunity to show off our wares for all PlayStation platforms. All the planning, preparations and hard work has paid off into what was a great E3 for SCEA. Congratulations to everyone involved in making that happen! One quick thing before I head to the show for the last day. I just wanted to clarify something. I've seen a lot of posts this morning related to the 60GB SKU and the comments by SCEE President David Reeves. As we announced this week, SCEA's product offering in North America consists of a 80GB PS3 available in August and a 60GB PS3 available now for $499. We will have ample supplies of both models to meet the needs of consumers for the foreseeable future.

That's a fanboy's mindset. There was one year in which the entire video game industry's market value increased to the highest in two decades. That year saw Halo 2, Madden, and GTA San Andreas all release within a month of each other. They were called the golden three. You will remember this undoubtedly. Those three alone accounted for a third of the year's entire videogame sales. The entire industry grew as a result of those three games alone.

As Peter Moore pointed out, this year is another chance happening of that golden three. Halo 3, Madden 08 and GTA 4 all releasing within a month of each other. The only difference being that they're all next-gen, and there's only one machine on which you can play all three. Guess which? So you've got these three games expected to sell astronomical numbers of units, and there's only one machine you can play them all on? Looks like the 360 is going to have a good winter already.

But that's not even all of it. Take mega-hits like Halo 3 and GTA4, plus the usual sellers like Madden, and throw in Mass Effect, Blue Dragon and Bioshock. You've got six GOTY contenders all releasing within two months! Have you ever heard of one machine having SIX game of the year candidates launching in such a small space of time? On top of that there's Lost Odyssey, again with huge potential to kick ass, Ace Combat 6 and Call of Duty 4. Oh and Splinter Cell Conviction. And Eternal Sonata.

And Project Gotham Racing 4, hot on the heels of Forza 2 which is already a huge success. Moto GP too, always an amazing game and ALWAYS a huge seller. More? Too Human, Medal of Honour Airborne, Pro Evolution Soccer 8 (an uber-seller) plus the entire EA sports line-up. Dark Messiah and Stranglehold, too. And Virtua Fighter 5. And Half-Life 2 Orange Box. And The Club. And Naruto. And Guitar Hero 3. And Rock Band. And Marathon, and Assasin's Creed and....

In other words; you've got a huge list there of AA, AAA and GOTY games. Lair is completely hit or miss. I dont see why its seen as some insta-classic. Same with Uncharted. UT3 and Haze will also be following on the 360 before the winter's through....

Face it. The 360 has one of the best winters in history. There are literally more games than i can afford, and ALL of them are worth playing.

Sure, it's staying for as long as it takes to sell off the remaining stock of them. This is literally a basement-bargain-blow-out-sale on 60gig PS3s. After it's over, the price jacks right back up to $599. Face it, PS3 people, you have been trojan-horse'd with the PS3- Sony just wants to get blu-ray into people's homes, that is all they care about. Gaming is only a secondary goal.

And I feel really bad for the early adopters who bought the 60gig for $599, that would suck. They are totally screwed over now.

And someone comment- will the new PS3s have WORSE backwards compatibility than the old ones, now that they are taking out hardware emulation?

LOL. The blog did NOT say that the 80gig will be $500 once the 60 gigs run out. If that were true, why would anyone in their right mind buy a 60gig right now? I don't have the quote handy right now, but did you guys even read it? It only says that the 60gig is $499, it didn't even refer to the 80gig price, which as we all know has been set at $599. The 80 gig isn't dropping in price any time in the "foreseeable future" LOL
