I firmly believe Blizzard will take World of Warcraft to the xbox 360. And sooner rather than later. Here's my opinion!

1) Microsoft was to publish the fantasy mmorg Vanguard, backed out, and now Sony is publishing Vanguard. Why would Microsoft pay the development bills for Vanguard to be made and then drop out of the deal so late in the game? One, if they thought Vanguard sucked. All indications are that it does not. But a more likely reason is that to attract WOW they didnt want to publish another fantasy like mmorg. History repeating. When Microsoft wanted EA to bring its sports franchises to Xbox live microsoft dissolved many of their sport franchises and sold two others (links and tennis). History is repeating. Microsoft wants WOW on the 360. Microsoft doesnt need to publish a fanasy mmorg like Vangaurd when they have the king of fantasy mmorg's on the way.

2) with the release of Vista and Microsofts push for games to be played across both the 360 and Vista platforms together what a better way to present this than with WOW. And for Blizzard this is a home run if Microsoft can make those servers work for both pcs and 360's. A cross platform mmorg would be great for WOW's future longevity. More people to play with. And only through the 360 would cross platforming be possibly. PS3 cant do it (or at least wont make the investments needed) and the Wii certainly couldnt.

3) The usb PC attachment that enables all wireless 360 devices to work on a windows PC just came out today. For cross platformers such as wow this device would have to be in the market so both pc users and 360 users have access to the same input devices. Look for mouse/keyboard adapters for the 360 to come out soon, possibly in the form as a system software upgrade. Imagine playing wow on the pc with a wireless headset for chat capabilities, or if you wanted, using a 360 controller. Oblivion has proved complex rpgs can be played through a simpler control scheme, a keyboard is not necessary.

4) Microsoft isnt looking to compete in the console war. They are aiming to WIN the console war. obtaining WOW for the 360 would be a huge nail in the ps3 coffin and one hell of a shot over the bow of the Wii pheonomena. the ability to play WOW on the 360 along with your pc friends would clearly differentiate the 360 and the Wii capabilities. Its no secret Microsoft has wanted WOW on the 360 for quite some time. Now that the Burning Crusade is out look for Blizzard and Microsoft to make some announcements.

Blizzard has already said they have no plans to port WoW to the 360.

Though I'm with you; WoW on 360 would be an amazing coup for Microsoft.

i dont play wow, but i've heard that with the new expansion burning crusade it weights more than 10 gb, and WOW cant be splited into 2 discs due to its nature, it would have to be partially installed to the 360 HD which is not standard and would eat space really fast besides world of warcraft has a truckload of command keys, i dont think the joystick can handle it properly

Vanguard's developer backed out of their deal with Microsoft, not the other way around.  There's some speculation on why, but it's fairly certain the Microsoft tried to force the game to be a Vista exclusive, alienating most gamers and requiring the expensive upgrade.

WoW will not go to consoles, no matter how much you wish it. The amount of commands required is not enough for a controller and a keyboard is required. Since keyboards are not the standard on the 360, the majority of potential buyers will attempt to play the game on a controller, which is what happened in FFXI. Doing so will just screw up the game for everybody since you'll have people simply too overwhelmed to do their class job, thus disrupting the community, which Blizzard won't allow, even if it was a small percentage in their game.

Anyways, what's the deal with console players wanting WoW on their consoles all of the sudden? If you really want to play, just get a cheap video card, spend 20 bucks on the game and play. :|

They are played out because the majority of them suck. Games like DAoC, EQ and Lineage may be major names in the genre but my god do they just stink in their game design. They basically are just chatrooms with a poorly made multiplayer games attached.

World Of Warcraft would burn XBL down...

Then again, 95% of the games on XBL have about 20 people who play them, so as long as it isn't too popular on XBL it MIGHT be able to handle it...

Then again, WoW doesn't have good graphic, but it requires at LEAST a gig of RAM to run smoothly...

There's just a lot of factors that make me think it's impossible... It would crash XBL a lot...

"Console World of Warcraft 'Unlikely'
One dev says no immediate plans for WoW on consoles.
By Luke Smith, 01/16/2007

We've apparently been in error, all those times we've teased the possibility of World of Warcraft coming to the console space. In an interview with Pro-G, appropriately named Blizzard developer Jonathan LeCraft poo-poo'd the idea of World of Warcraft in the console space:

You really do need a keyboard to play WoW. I've seen some mods where people have hooked up WoW to their Wii. When I saw that I was like, well, that's got to be pretty easy to PVP against, honestly. It's not something we're looking at right now.

It wasn't just saying 'no' to the Wii, though. Pro-G also quizzed LeCraft on whether or not the game would come to the Xbox 360 or the arguably-more-suitable PlayStation 3 and its open-network online platform:

We don't have any plans for it specifically. We always keep all our options on the radar, but there are no plans for the immediate future.

The immediate future? That sounds like a bit of a cop-out, doesn't it? Why would Blizzard want to announce a console version just as their first PC expansion launches? We're leaving the file open on this rumor."

I would rather stab myself in the eye with a spoon than attempt to tank on a controller. Have you tried the newer dungeons in TBC? They're meant to drive the tank crazy...

Well, there's always Two Worlds, which would probably play ten times better on the 360, since it's being built for it as well as the PC, instead of just being built for the PC.

But the XBL servers are used for matches or only to meet players and then start the match using a different server? Considering that GeoW has players who act as hosts instead of using the XBL servers as hosts I think it is the second, therefore the load to XBL would be minimum. Anyway WoW is a MMORPG with a persistent world which would never be hosted in XBL servers. About WoW for XBox360, keep dreaming as I keep dreaming about SC:Ghost, but I don't think that will happen. WoW has already a huge userbase, and releasing it for the XBox360 wouldn't increase it much, probably most of the people who would play WoW in the XBox360 can do the same on their computers and if they don't the reasons that prevent them from doing so will prevent them from playing it in the XBox360 too.

Although i have herd that blizzard has no plans to go to the 360, i do think it would be pretty cool. I dont think that we would need a key board, and that a control would work just fine, they would just have to reconfigure the controles? I've always wanted to play this game soooo hopefully it comes out on the 360.

LMAO!

That was the funniest thing I've heard.... Ever...

Seriously, even past level 10 you need at least 8 hotkeys, along with a mouse to handle precise targetting, and about 50 other buttons to handle all the other important controls.

It would be LITERALLY impossible to play even Wailing Caverns without a full keyboard.

A Molten Core raid would be so infinitely destroyed, that is of course if they could even get 40 people together, which they probably couldn't.

On top of that, without the chat functions of WoW the fun of the community would be destroyed...

Everything about a 360 version would blow chunks.

I don't see it's that possible for a person to play WoW with a controller.  Most people have 24+ skills/items mapped to their hotbars, and these aren't useless skills/items, people will need to use them at one point or another, or simply be a gimped player.

There are so many issues with bringing WoW to a console that I just don see it happening and most of them add up to making the way too expensive even if it were technically possible.

Asuming that the 360 has the muscle to run it (wich I think it does) you are going to need a Keyboard and a mouse add-ons, then M$ and Blizzard are going to need a way to solve the subscription thing because remember that the game aint free.

So it end up its: Game (including expansion) + M/K add-on + Subscription fee + monthly fee + now mandatory HDD (for those who dont have one) or a bigger one to store the game in

Will people buy all this to play a game that they can already play on a PC? (and a PC that doesnt have to be so expensive by the way). It wont be HD, it wont use the pad, it will have dated graphs, it will eat up all the Hard Drive space... I dont think thats what the average 360 user really wants.

Yeah it is much more feasible on the PS3, since every console has a hard drive. However, it won't be going to consoles at all.

A reasonably, but hardly conclusive thought.

Actually, no.  WOW is already x-platform, on Mac and PC, it's longevity is not in question, and it subscriptions are hardly in need of padding at this point.  Further, until 360 comes out with a standard mouse+keyboard, it's dent it would contribute to WOW wouldn't be that substantial, especially as most likely it would mostly be getting xcross platform players (ie they already have it on a PC or Mac).  Lastly, like it or not consoles are a limited environment.  Getting stuck to one is not generally a wise choice for a developer marketing a dynamic game.  Already WOW would eat up 1/2 of the HDD equiped 360s available space, and that's only going to continue to get worse as the game evolves.

Oblivion has proved complex rpgs can be played through a simpler control scheme, a keyboard is not necessary.

, sorry, no.  Voice chat would be extremely spotty as it would be mostly limited to 360 users (let's face facts, most PC players don't bother with chat, or have their own seperate chat services setup), and beyond that it's just not very useful.  There are 11 standard chat channels in WOW (general, trade, world defense, local defense, guild recruitment, party, raid, guild, say, yell, and whisper).  We only have 1 mouth, you do the math.  It just doesn't work to well.  And WOW is a game built for mouse+keyboard.  This isn't Oblivion which was always targeted to have a controller interface (and really by comparison it's still much simplier).  They would need a Mouse+keyboard.  Of that there is no question (again, back to those chat channels, you need that keyboard for at least 10 of them) and many thing in the game really demand a mouse too.

At this point, WOW would not really help MS that much.  It's already made it's mark on PC and Mac, and like it or not will not make a substantial dent on the console.  In fact, it may actually HURT them.  A good percentage of the WOW play base play it exclusively.  That's not good for MS.  They only get a small chunk of a 1 time sale of the game itself.  They don't get anything off the subscription.  If people skip buying other games because they're paying for WoW, or more simply just because all their time is wrapped up in WoW, that less game sales to MS.

Anyone that thinks that WoW can be played with a pad havent played the game ever. I have Lvl 31 Shaman and I dont see how on earth could anyone play that game with a pad... too many spells, to many things to keep track of, just too much stuff for 10 buttos, 2 analogs and a d pad. It would be fine on the lowere levels but what about PvP, end game, dungeons and raids?

How about a no? I'm going to copy and paste this little response from another thread on this very same issue...

"I'm a warrior in WoW. That puts me in the tank postion, where I must draw attention to myself monster wise. Warrior have 3 stances: Battle ~ Defensive ~ Berserker. To tank I must use Shield Block to open up Revenge while spamming Sunder armor. While doing this I must use status boosters/anti boosters like Battle Shout, Demoralizing Shout, Piercing Howl, Thunder Clap and Taunt when the monster loses interest in me. All the while I must do some decent damage with abilities like Heroic Strike, Cleave (Used for tanking two or more monsters) and Excute. All of this requires me to not only move but to switch stances on the fly. If the mob has a spell I need to stop, I need to shield bash/pummel to shut him up. If I have a movement debuff while my healer gets hit, I must use Intercept to rush and tank the loose monster. If the crap hits the fan, I must use my 30 minute abilities like Shield wall. Lets not forget that I have potions that need to be used to survive battles as well.

Now read all this and tell me how in the hell I can get all that perfectly on a Xbox controller?"

Now add that with chat commands, commands for potions, weapon swap, macros for warnings and the such.

Can you make a PC for under $400 (better yet, $300) that can play WoW fullspeed with detail that matches or surpasses anything the 360 can cook up? Remember that many PCs may be too obsolete to simply upgrade.

As for using the hard drive, it's already known that persistent content games (ie. MMOs) require the hard drive, and it's happened once already (FF11), so it's already a known requirement.

It should be pretty obvious by now that XBL gamers don't care about paying for online. It only comes out to like $5 a month, so what's another $15 for an MMO? The 360 has a USB port, so I'm sure they can add support for USB mice and keyboards. If, for some reason, the PC isn't a viable WoW platform for some people, then the 360 isn't all that bad an alternative, regardless of the cost associated with it.

took the words out of my mouth. Console fanboys would argue that every PC game would be great on console, they also say that because one game has better graphics than the other it is a "better" game (I.E. more fun to play) Gears of War is overrated not as fun as halo. Both statements above are completely idiotic and plain stupid. WoW would be horrible on a console, I know I played that game for a year straight made it to Lvl 60 on a warrior was one of the most respected on my server, and the amount of commands you need even to be an effective tank is the whole 1-9 + 0 above the qwerty line x 3. Try and translate that to a controller and you have a mess. anyone who would suggest this idea has never ever EVER played WoW and should stop such arguements and rumors because people WILL laugh at you.

MS ditched Vanguard because it was costing them already 20+ Million to make.

It should be pretty obvious by now that XBL gamers don't care about paying for online. It only comes out to like $5 a month, so what's another $15 for an MMO? The 360 has a USB port, so I'm sure they can add support for USB mice and keyboards. If, for some reason, the PC isn't a viable WoW platform for some people, then the 360 isn't all that bad an alternative, regardless of the cost associated with it.PikaPichu

First off Blizzard has their own service. They don't want to enter into a situation where they have to give up certain control over their game just to get it working on another service (I.E. Xbox Live)

Second off, if people see the chance to use a controller, especially if they are mainly console gamers, they'll take it. It happened in FFXI. The difference between FFXI and WoW, however, is that FFXI was made specifically for consoles in mind while WoW was made from the ground up for PCs. While you can just insert a keyboard/mouse, the real question is whether or not you can convince primarily controller users to jump ship for one game?

Also, you must factor in the time Blizzard will have to spend on a brand new controller layout/interface just to accommodate those who are unwilling to go keyboard/mouse knowing full well that such a setup is impossible to use at higher levels.

Sorry, but I just don't see it happening.

That's true though, I still don't understand why people keep dreaming that WOW will make it to the 360.

If they actually ported the game over, consoles would need their own server and the game would be tonned down a bit. A simple example would be: Molten Core (Dungeon), first boss Lucifron has the ability to put debuffs (evil magic that doesn nasty things to you) on all 40 players in 1 second. This debuffs need to be removed as fast as possible as if they're not, the curse/magic deals very high damage to players. And that only a few classes in the game can remove those debuffs doesn't help either. You usually run there with 4-5 priests which need to do this work (dispelling 40 players).
So this boss would be next to imposible to do with a controller. So they would need to tone it down very very much. This is why they wouldn't be able to play with the PC users, as this is really not much of a problem with a moue and keyboard. However if they introdcue the keyboard to the xbox it would be possible. Still missing addons would make raiding with console players a nightmare in most cases.

So in reality there's next to zero chance of World of Warcraft comming to the consoles, or any mmo of that kind.

I guess you haven't read the recent-ish interview with a blizzard dveloper who said they have no interest in console online until it's larger,so you can take that as WOW isn't coming to 360...ever.

Excellent, well thought-out post.  However, I don't think WOW will be coming to the 360.  Hooking up a keyboard and mouse up to the 360 is probably the biggest hurdle, which is something that seems should have already happened.  Secondly, the only people interested would likely be current Oblivion fans, and while Oblivion has sold close to a million copies so far, I don't think there's sizeable community who would be willing to try WOW this late in the game.  In other words, anyone who would want to play WOW is probably already playing it, and has been for some time.  I think introducing WOW to the 360 now would be too little too late.

I said for WoW's basic controls. And you act like your hardcore Madden or Tekken player doesn't have to go through the same kinds of crazy controller shenanigans.

It probably won't happen, but it would nice if it did. Blizzard can make it so that a kb/mouse is required to play the game. They don't have to use MS's service - I'm sure they can make/use their own.

What the hell is WoW's basic controls? Walking? Auto Attack? Good luck getting far in the game with just those two commands...

And that's correct, the hardcore Madden and Tekken player doesn't have to go through all this crap spread out across over 20 buttons. Curious, have you ever played WoW? From the sound of it you have no idea what the game demands of you to begin with.

I've played WoW. I know what it involves. I didn't like it that much, but I have played it enough to get a couple of characters up to a decent level (40+) and do some of the early instances. And there was nothing I did that I couldn't have done on a controller given the right setup (except chat, of course, but voice would be an adequate replacement, wouldn't you say?) Of course, the hardcore lvl70 players who raid for 6 hours every night will not be satisfied with the controller, but those guys are already playing it on PC, so who cares? The people who would be playing WoW on 360 would be people like me, not really interested in spending hours a day raiding and collecting ph4t l3wts, instead just playing a few days a week for a couple hours with friends. In addition, there is no reason WoW on 360 couldn't also support a keyboard for those complex macro commands; FFXI supported a keyboard as well.

If you've only played up to lv 40, then your points are invalid. The fact is that at 40, the game only begins to get more difficult (Uldaman). Also, if you're not using the majority of skills as well as using items, weapon swiping and actively communicate with your party members in the same time from lv 1 to 40, you are either a solo player or just a bad team player. Also, this has nothing to do with raiding as well because 5 man dungeons from lv 40+ like Uldaman, Sunken Temple, Black Rock Depths, Black Rock Spire (Lower and Upper), Stratholme, Scholomance, Dire Maul as well as the newer dungeons like Hellfire Ramparts, Blood Furnace, Underbog and more require more from you than your average Scarlet Monestary run. The fact is that Instance Dungeons makes up a huge part of WoW's gameplay and if you are unable to perform in that environment, you're not playing the game correctly. Don't get me started on PvP.

Also, I already stated why Keyboards and Mice won't work on the 360.
