I thought this was really cool. He redid the entire chassis to make it 2cm thin and fit the entire PS5 inside.
Always blown away by the incredible technology inside the PS5. That liquid metal is insanely futuristic. Nobody does it better than Sony.
Just goes to show how incredibly incompetent the ps5 designers were.
Not really. It's watercooled which you probably won't see in a mass produced product

And he had to jury-rig the crap out of the PSU and use an enormous radiator bigger than the console itself. The radiator didn't have proper cooling for his first test and ended up frying the PS5 lol. He had to swap the motherboard and redo it and it worked. Great temps though.
Amazing video, love seeing people make products significantly better.
Took him months though!

Yeah those stock PS5 temperatures are insane, but then again if they were designed to go that high...then so be it. I used to a have Jeep Cherokee and those things were built to run hot (like 195 F) whereas most cars are much cooler than that; but that was OK because the components were built to compensate for it.
Still...having a 90+ degree Celsius device in your room in the middle of summer doesn't sound fun.

Fair enough, but there have been all-in-one (AIO) coolers on the market, mass-produced, for years. I don't think it would be too far of a stretch to see them used in a mass-produced product these days.
Would likely add to the cost, though. Consoles are all about value.
Well yeah, making the PSU and cooling solution external allows for that sort of form factor… It’s a neat video, but folks in this thread can’t go after Sony for not making the PS5 this *slim.
He didn’t ”fit the entire PS5 inside,” like TC claims. The biggest parts of the console were pulled out, and never put back in…
With all the concerns over the environment, should electronic devices like the PS5 be designed so that they do not generate too much heat?
Anyways, I find it interesting that this man was able to modify a PS5 into a "slim" form. I assume that he must be an engineer as most gamers do not have the technical skills to modify electronic devices to their liking.
Even if his slim version had been twice as big, it would still look better than the original sandwich monster. Let this guy work for Sony
You don't understand: Sony made it ugly on purpose, so you'd be ashamed to play it and rebuy all your games on PC.
It's win-win for them.
@mrbojangles25: Yeah without quality control / warranty, much higher budget etc.
If you said Sony was "allowed" to charge $700-800 and take no responsibility if it bricks or not I'm sure they too would make it significantly better :p

This guy JUST did it better than Sony. :-S

I'm sure Sony's engineers had to go through a lot of prototypes to get it working too.
"MAKE MY PS5 GROOOOOOW!!!!"

Sony allowed him to do better. Big difference.
Really cool? Maybe if it worked. This guy bricked his.
To be fair it works he just didn't mount the radiator and it fell over blocking the intakes.. had he mounted it, like he said he was going to do, it never would have bricked the first one

And the copper case cost 300 bucks. Still a cool project though.

Yep, Sony could do the same but but not sure how well a $1000 console would sell.
omg, I was thinking of making this thread. This guys is super cool, but how desparate is he, that he has to go through so much effort just to make the ps5 look palatable and not butt effing ugly. You don't see people doing this with the Xbox series X, because it already looks good.
It is weird to say that it is slim when it requires a radiator that is double the size of the original unit.
Ya, I do agree there. The cooling makes it not so slim, but still, a cool video and the design is awesome except for the cooling, bet he could make that a lot more streamlined.
Also, he manages to break one ps5 /tears
I mean... it is cool I guess, but when you take the parts from the bigger model and hide them behind TV's, under the rug, inside the entertainment center, etc. the footprint is actually a lot larger. The PS5 is kind of ugly with the white faceplates, but I'd rather buy colored plates and not have to mount anything or hide extra cords and pieces to try and make it appear smaller and more aesthetically pleasing. Maybe that's just me though..
