Worst and most overrated RPG developer?

Bioware and Bethesda.

Used to be bioware. but now its CDPR.

RPGs imo are worst genre ever when it comes to gameplay.

None of those are overated, they have all made some stellar games.

The hate for bethesda is hilarious, there are still no RPG's out there that are comparativly as good at being a First Person immersive free-roam RPG.. none... and they are one of the few developers that actively encourages immortalising thier games through mods.

I loved Skyrim and Witcher 3 for very different reasons, Skyrim was just a better game for role-playing freely, Witcher was better for roleplay on strings.

theres mass effect that is poor third person shooter with RPG elements, theres witcher which has terrible combat, theres fallout series which gameplay suck, i just couldnot name a single RPG with good gameplay mechanics.

RPGs don't have the same combat mechanics as DOOM? Shocking.

It's almost as if different genres have different things that appeal to different types of people.

Bethesda, horribly out of date graphics and gameplay mechanics for every single game is their trademark. Tons and tons of money and a steadfast refusal to upgrade their graphics engine, they may as well be standing in front of their fans and shouting '**** you'.

Mods are their way of saying we really can't be arsed to finish this thing, just give us 60 dollars and go fix the damned thing yourself if you really must play it. Truly horrible company.

I voted Atlus as they only put out weeaboo trash as far as I know.

@ghosts4ever: your entire premise rests on your (at this point meme-like narrow) definition of what qualifies as "good gameplay". Basically, if it's not an FPS then you think its gameplay is bad? I wonder how you rationalize your obsession with SS2, given that its FPS mechanics are god awful, only seeming ok in comparison to its even worse hand combat. It's really only saved by stealth atmosphere and RPG elements, ironically.

I think all those listed make excellent games of which I have enjoyed so I voted other although I don’t know who that would be off the top of my head.

@ghosts4ever: LOL, what? All you do in FPS is move the crosshairs onto a target and pull the trigger over and over. I've played many an FPS in my day, but that genre has gotten so stale.

You know it's bad when even the casuals are turning on devs like Beth & Bio.

Atlus is one of the worst by far. They pump out mediocre games all the time.

Fromsoftware sucks because all their games are poorly designed but they managed to convince gamers their games are “hard on purpose” and “fair”. No, they are broken messes.

Whoever makes Ni No Kuni also sucks. Tri-ace? They suck too.

Easily the most overrated.

EDIT: Level 5 did Ni No Kuni. They suck too.

I thought the combat mechanics in the Witcher 3 were pretty solid.

If you wanna see poor combat in a rpg, look no further than Skyrim. The only aspect of combat that was even remotely satisfying in that game was the bow and arrow!

And I really don't see what was so fantastic about Doom. There was barely any scope for tactics. Just run and gun. Pretty mindless.

Bethesda RPGs are really bad, unpolished, unfocused, might be good for those who want a sandbox game, but for those looking for experiences, nah.

Square Enix is somewhat overrated in my opinion but they are not all that bad. (I'm not a modern Final Fantasy fan/or Kingdom hearts fan, but I am looking forward to Dragon Quest 11 and Project Octopath)

Bethesda on the other hand, is ridiculously overrated. I will never understand the appeal.

Two years ago, I would have said Bethesda too. I avoided their Elder Scrolls and Fallout games for years. Then I took a chance with Fallout 4 last year as an impulse buy and actually ended up liking it. That opened me up to Fallout 3 and most recently, New Vegas. The graphics were just horrible. But, I ended up liking the two games as well even though I'm still not interested in the ES games.

Beyond the games above, I haven't played an RPG in years. Anything medieval (including feudal Japan and other ancient settings) are stale to my eyes. I'm solidly in the projectile and particle weapon era. I wished there were more RPGs with those.

Square Enix. I think I've attempted to endure enough Final Fantasy games at this point to say that they are, without out a doubt, some of the worst games I've ever played. Get rid of their slick presentation, and they don't have anything.

Fromsoft. They just keep repeating themselves, and have not improved their graphics or gameplay since PS2 era. Boo!

Bethesda games just bore me to tears Doom was ok but no more than that. Fallout is just a long slog to finish gets boring half way through maybe I just don't like the genre of games they put out.

Bethesda, definitely.

Any Japanese dev. JRPGs can't hold a candle to WRPGs.

@mrbojangles25: FFX has an ok narrative and pretty artistry but devolves into one of the worst grindfests imaginable. It pissed me off because I've wasted so much time in it and it *could* be ok if they had done things a little differently. I agree, FF is not high in my list for giod JRPGs

Never mind that the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei games are some of the most highly regarded RPGs out there and you probably haven't played them. But it's Japanese and anime-styled, so it must automatically be "weeaboo trash".

I'd rather play most Xenoblade, Persona, or Chrono games then whatever new unpolished, buggy, glitchfest Bethesda is putting out.

Andromeda was a disgrace and Mass Effect 3 had its moments but ended on such a law that you could only wonder, which lead developer had a mental breakdown and decided not to bother with an ending.

Oblivion was lauded, one of the most critically acclaimed RPG's in existence. I think if we look back on that now, it's slightly embarrassing.

Bethesda, their games aren't bad, but they have became stagnant and with that long development time is almost laughable the amount of bugs they have at release.

So to sum up this thread so far.

EVERY developer is overrated and shit.
