also in agreement, i hated it when i first saw it it just looked retarded but it fit in the hand perfectly on the button placement was perfect. although a second shoulder button on the left side of the controller would have been nice.

The GameCube controller looked odd, but it was a great controller. Dreamcast's was ok. Also, the Xbox 1 controller was really bad and ugly. Should've been up there.

Yup, me agree too.

If it weren't for the single and awkward to click Z button, rather than having one on each side, and the slilghtly awkward layout of the face buttons that meant it was difficult to map certain games to the pad perfectly then it would have been the best standard pad ever. The wireless Wavebird version of the GC pad was brilliant and all round the GC pad is still easily the most ergonomic controller in terms of shape I have ever held.

I also don't think either the Saturn or Dremacast controllers were particularly bad in any way, relative to their time, despite them looking a little strange.

You guys have got to be kidding? I bought the GC at launch and couldnt wait to play the thing. I played it about an hour and had to hand it off to my kids. I absolutely hadted the controller. 2 different toggles, crazy shapped buttons...Just horrible in my opinion.

Everyone cried about the XBOX controller when it launched but I loved it just fine. Large yes...but way better than any GC controller..

WORST controller of the last 20 years goes to DreamCast. Good system, bad controller...It had some good features with the addon screen and such...but horrible..

but seriously, i have long lanky fingers, xbox controller was fine for me personally... but only me... cant believe they used a test group to get that controller, next time theyll learn not to trust randoms.

GC fits perfectly, could use a few upgrades, shoulder buttons were perfect part from the fact you had to push them down well, the pattern on the main analog is annoying and the other analog didnt cut it at all

Don't even!

The N64 controller was and still is one of the best controllers ever!

If you held both side handles it was a near prefect replica of the SNES pad, and far superior to the likes of the Wii's Classic Controller, and was perfect for old school games. If you held it with the center handle and one of the side handles it it was great for virtually any other kind of game at time and even using it now to play games like Goldeneye it still holds up. You could even hold two at once with certain games like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, by holding them by the center handle with one in each hand, and it was pretty much a perfect replica of today's dual analog controller except both analog sticks and triggers were actually position perfectly for your hands rather than being slightly off to the side or asymmetric.

The only real issue with the N64 controller was that the analog stick became loose after a good bit of use but when it was new and worked it was imo probably the nicest feeling analog stick to date.

Don't you dare!

Fail.

You want a bad controller?

That's a bad controller.

And at least pick the N64 pad if you have to put a Nintendo controller on there.

Gamecube controller was terrible.

  • One "Z" button
  • The cord was too short
  • The shoulder buttons were too deep (had to really push them in)
  • The D-pad was small and out of place.

The only good thing about the controller would be the four fat face buttons. The wavebird was ok too.

Blasphemy! N64 controller, probably the best ever made. For me, its between, SNES controller, N64 controller, PS3 and 360. The best controllers that is. The whole three pronged thing was a bit weird, but the c buttons and z button made it a beaut.

The first time I saw the GC controller I had the same reaction I had when I saw the N64 controller, "you have got to be kidding me"! After playing the games, I loved loved both of them more than the PS and 360 controller, mostly because of the D-pad.

And to add fuel to the fire:

the cube controller was awesome TC

it felt great, and it with it's different sized buttons it made it really look more diverse from other controllers out there...and even though there were different sizes and placed differently...the control was still quite perfect

WW played superb with that controller

i agree with you on those other four though

The Intellivision and Jaguar controllers were crap. Even the LARGE XBOX controller wasn't good. the S-Controller was nice though. The 3DO controller was a peace of crap. The D-Pad didn't even work half the time. You had to loosen the screws on it to give the D-Pad some give. The Colecovision controllers were also crap. I hated the NUB analog stick on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ColecoVision The original Genesis controller wasn't the best either. The Dreamcast controller was one of the best ever created. Yeah.. the cord was in the wrong place, but the controller worked beautifully. The Saturn Controller pictures came with Nights. It worked great with that game, but not so well with other titles, like fighting games. The Dreamcast controller was derived from the Saturn controller.

Are you on dope? Aside from the 360 and ps controler GC's controler is the best in terms of button placement and comfort.

tbh it's probably one of the best of all time. Put aside the design and the horrible Dpad, it truely was a great controler. I don't see where your getting at.:?

Also Saturn wins this one. Goes to show how come it was dead last back in the N64 era.:P

Their are some controllers that were exactly like the GCN controller but they had an M button on the opposite side of the Z button. The cord was a good size for me. I liked that about the Shoulder Buttons. I agree with the D-pad being Small and out of place.

The CD-i controller was worse they had three different controllers for it as standard controllers and they still didn't get it right.

Too deep? You should try the PS3 shoulder buttons or "trigger". I swear why did they make those, the PS2/PS1 controlers were the best!

Also there are wireless GC controlers to fix the "cord was too short" or buy extentions. Might not cost as much as a regular Wiimote + Nunchuck would nowadays.:P

The Atari Jaguar controller really isn't bad at all. The D-Pad and buttons are all very responsive, it fits nicely inside your hand, and the "telephone pad" buttons on the bottom aren't used for normal gameplay, they're just used to switch weapons or powers or things like that, and I think it worked better than having to scroll through a menu to do that.

GC controller ? :D You must be joking

Gamecube controller was awesome, best controller of last gen.

Gamecube controller was terrible.

  • One "Z" button When was a second Z button needed ?
  • The cord was too short True, Nintendo wanted you to buy the wireless controller :P
  • The shoulder buttons were too deep (had to really push them in) No you didn't, they were analog ... did you actually play the gamecube ?
  • The D-pad was small and out of place. Small ? Yes, Out of Place ? No, Needed much ? No

The only good thing about the controller would be the four fat face buttons. The wavebird was ok too.

Blue-Sky

So the only problem was the small cord, and the Wavebird fixed that.

The Dreamcast Controller > The Original Xbox Controller.

No point of the White/Black Buttons, and when I was younger, I couldn't even hold it.

Edit:

The Nintendo 64's controller was one of the best controllers ever!!! The Z Button was amazing.

Also, I'm suprised no one has made fun of the Wii Remote yet. I mean, this is System Wars! :P
