Worst Game of The Year this generation?

Oh hell no, second vote is my favorite game Dragon Age. Oh hell no. I need healing.

BotW is the only one I actively dislike

They choose it because they pay there bills.

Zelda is the worst choice. So many better games came out last year.

Dragon Age is a Average game, but that year sucked for games. There was no competition so I can understand why it won.

Uncharted 4 and Witcher 3 deserved their awards.

Gotta go with Dragon Age: Inquisition. There's no way in hell I'd pick any other game on that list.

out of those, pretty close between DA:I and Uncharted 4.

DA: I came out in a pretty weak year for games though if I recall. UC4 severely lacked gameplay substance.

Shadow of Mordor is another pretty mediocre game that got a lot of GOTY attention

Dragon Age:I, Shadow of Mordor, Journey, Zelda: A Link between worlds (liked the game but obviously Nostalgia played a huge roll).

Its a ok game at best but definitely it only won cause its year (2014) was pretty terrible

At least U4 didnt had loot boxes contrary to Overwatch. Also Overwatch was quickly regarded as overrated by so many people. Thing is, if you dont like MP based games then U4 was the superior game that year and vice versa. You cant say X game was better than Y when they aim at different things that will be more liked or disliked depending on one's preferences. I dont like competitive MP thus Overwatch is a bad game for me and the same can be applied to critics when they chose their goty. Thats part of why at times the GOTY isnt the highest rated game for that year. Bayonetta 2 was a 10/10 and yet it lost to a game that got an 8/10 (Shadow of Mordor)

Personally I don't know how a sequel that is worse than the games that came before could ever be voted GOTY:

• Uncharted 2 > Uncharted 4
• Dragon age Origins > Dragon age Inqusition

Divinity: Original Sin, Alien Isolation, Wolfenstein: TNO, Valiant Hearts, Shovel Knight, Tropico 5, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, Smash Bros WiiU, Forza Horizon 2, South Park:Stick of Truth, Dark Souls 2.

I'd say it was a pretty good year. Divinity or Bayonetta 2 should had won Goty.

Holy shit, DA:I. That game was a slog, and I didn't even finish it.

BotW. I literally played 10+ other games that I enjoyed far more from the same year. Games like DA: I and Uncharted 4, I just ignored from the get go.

Yeah, that was an average game. But didn't win more than Inquisition by the gaming press.

Put aside personal preferences and you can see those games are loved by a lot of people.

I guess people that play on all devices never really have a bad year, I suppose the less systems owned the less great games you could play.

if anything era is more pro zelda than here, I feel safer to point out that botw is a bad game here

Played Zelda briefly on my buddy's Switch, unimpressed with both the game and the Switch and reinforced my thoughts on why I don't like Nintendo.

I'm not a big Uncharted fan either.

Both The Witcher 3 and DAI were top notch in my book.

Zelda gets my vote for worst, Witcher 3 best (out of the games you listed) I'd actually put Horizon Zero Dawn as my Game of this Gen.

Uncharted has tons of gameplay. The cutscenes in between the gameplay sections have always been short.

I guess Gears of war is not a game either? Halo is not a game? Get out of here bro.

Zelda by a wide margin. A clear case of pity for Nintendo's post Wii failures combined with the system having nothing else to play creating a rabid hysteria for unwarranted praise not seen since the first Xbox and its Shiny Green Power Ranger game.

Didn't play Dragon Age Inquisition.

Watched a friend play a large amount of the Witcher 3 and it was 'meh.'

Dragon Age Inquisition and Shadow of Mordor are the worst games of all time to ever win multiple GOTY awards. 2014 sucked for gaming.

Honestly, I didn't like Shadow of Mordor at first, but now I can't seem to stop playing Shadow of War...

Sure, there is a lot to dislike about Shadow of Mordor:

• Weak mission structure
• Repetitive environment
• Repetitive combat

But there is just sooooooo much more to like about these games:

• Fun gameplay
• Lots of variation in what you're doing: parkour, riding mounts, slashing orcs, stealth, dominating orcs, building an army, using your army strategically, ...
• Insanely deep character customization
• Witty dialogue from orcs... and returning orcs
• More variation in scenery in the second game
• More visual character customization in the second game
• Nemesis system is the shining mechanic of both games

You can like Shadow of Mordor, or you can dislike it, it's far from a mediocre game though.

Look at this:

I'm riding a dragon into an enemy stronghold breathing fire on all who dare stand in my way.

Not a lot of games let you do this. Not a lot of games give you that much freedom as SoM/SoW do.

But these are all good games.....

yea i know lots of people who genuinely really like the game, It just failed to grab me on any level in the 10ish hours I spent with it

I think I am just really burnt out on that style of open world game

- Minimap filled with samey, meaningless side quest icons

- Mission structure that fails to engage you like how GTA games do it

- Characters, motivations and missions you really don't care about

Yeah man, I get exactly what you are saying. I've been scaling back on open world games these past years. Especially Ubisoft cliched mission and open world structure is what finally got me tired of playing many open world games.

They're all great games so I'm not understanding the thread title, seems downright stupid to be honest.

Was split between U4 and DA. In the end I went with DA. At least I managed to get to the end of Uncharted. Though I will probably never buy an Uncharted game ever again while on the other hand I'm open to a new Dragon Age.

Shadow of Mordor gets my vote. It got an 8 on the initial review and that's about what it is. Then for some reason it was game of the year here and other places.

I picked other. Wolfenstein 2. The most inane, braindead blatantly unfunny characters in any video game ever that all conspired to be as boring and cliched as they were highly offensive and they were all on MY fucking side.

The game is a pile of shit. I loved Wolfenstein New Order, Old Blood as well, but this thing totally sucks ass.

Who gave UC4 GOTY in 2016?

The consenus (or generally considered) GOTY picks were:

2013 - The Last of Us
2014 - Dragon Age: Inquisition
2015 - The Witcher 3
2016 - Overwatch
2017 - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Of those, Inquisition should be the pick, but I can't say definitively because I never played it or Witcher 3 (nor do I plan to). Who knows, if I had, perhaps I'd throw BotW in the mix.

The Witcher 3 gets my vote. I was so disappointed with that game. If you take away it's story and it's pretty graphics, you are left with a game that has poor gameplay. Maybe some people can overlook that, but I can't. Even something as important as movement controls is just terrible in this game.
