Poll Worst gaming gimmick: Playstation Move, Kinect or Wiimote? (98 votes)

Playstation Move 40%
Kinect 36%
Wiimote 8%
That eyetoy thing? 16%

In my opinion, it has to be the Move. Why? It looked like a blue dildo. I honestly think Sony should not have created such a sexual device obviously geared toward young adults.

The Move was worst both critically and commercially. It was a shit-show.

Definitely the Move. All it did was try to copy the Wiimote four years later. Kinect was probably a worse gameplay gimmick, but at least it's failure came from being too ambitious.

Kinnect because out of all of them it just didn't work and was beyond annoying to use. At least the others functioned and worked.

Actually played a few games that made good use of the Wiimote. Can't say the same for the others.

Not like that makes the Wiimote the better tech, but at least it was well utilized in a handful of games.

This thread comes across as juvenile in all honesty.

At the time all the hardcore-to-the-max gamers were scoffing at it, didn't stop Mario Galaxy 1/2 taking home all the awards, or having the best RE4 version.

PlayStation Move was a straight rip-off Wiimote and the worst gimmick by Sony.

Kinect is what I called an original idea since MS was smart enough to not fall for the wand remote thing and went out to try something new.

Wiimote was brilliant. Even if it was innacurate at times, it was fun.

Kinect was an amazing piece of kit, that never fulfilled it's potential.

Eyetoy was a poor man's kinect, and move was a poor man's wiimote and the worst of the bunch.

Except VR actually makes pretty good use of the Mave (finally). And LOL at MS gluing two Eyetoys together being an original idea.

All I know is out of the three the Move is the only one alive today while Wiimote and Kinect are dead gimmicks. Move found a way to actually be useful with VR while Kinect and Wiimote are currently taking up space in landfills. It’s ironic that fanboys are voting the only device that is currently useful for gaming in this poll. ? Must be all the saltiness that their devices aren’t worth shit now.

@i_p_daily: Please tell me how I'm trolling? I have a Wii, I have a 360 with kinnect, and I've played move (don't own it). Kinnect is the worst by a long shot, its barely functional for most games (dance games actually work great though) and is just annoying and worthless for gaming. It had AMAZING potential, but never came close to what it would have been. Yet again you're the troll, no surprise there.

Meh, I actually somehow liked Kinect. Awesome possibilities for party games. Kung Fu something (forgot the actual name) was mad fun with a few buddies. Not really being sober helped a lot, too. The best thing I can say about the Wiimote is that playing Resident Evil 4 with it was a blast. People would remember it more fondly if most games didn't just use it to waggle waggle. PS Move was completely useless when it was released. I don't remember anything fun you could actually do with it. With VR it does have a point though. When in doubt just play Superhot with PSVR. Seriously, how could anybody not enjoy that?

All in all in don't think that any of those devices are terrible. But they never really fulfilled their potentital. I kind of wish they would release Move controllers with an added stick so that you can actually... well, move. Right now it's either full locomotion OR Move controls. Both at the same time would greatly enhance the VR experience. Stop that teleporting shit. The Aim controller is a step in the right direction.

Which was shortlived and hardly anyone thought it was mindblowing. A big change sure, but nothing that blows people's minds, or makes them cry out of happiness, or makes people freak out, or tricks your brain.

VR is the most revolutionary change gaming will ever have, a lot more so than 2D to 3D graphics. It actually serves gaming perfectly, unlike other attempts.

The Wiimote actually enhanced a lot of great games.

The Kinect was rubbish, but Microsoft backed it for a long time.

The Move...was a simple cash-grab, which I don't think Sony supported for very long (like most of their non-core console experiments).

@quadknight: Move is a pretty poor solution for VR. The tracking is like a fisher price toy compared to VIVE or Rift. I mean it’s okay but I think they would have tried a different method if they didn’t have dozens of warehouses full of unsold Move controllers.

Wiimote as it was forced on everyone regardless if you wanted it or not.... at least the others were optional buys.

I'm going with Kinect for one single reason: response time / delay. If it reacted faster, it would be so very awesome, especially if they made it into a device compatible with VR

It's not officially supported, but you can use Kinect for partial full-body tracking on PC VR headsets. The same technology is pretty important for VR in general as 2nd / 3rd gen headsets will likely just map out your body using cameras mounted on the headset.

I never used any of them , lmao. But from the outside , the Move was the least gimmicky. Move worked the best. Nintendo even had to milk the Waggle Wand with an add-on to be more Move-like. And Move is still useful and kickin in this generation with VR.

The Wii-mote was the worst controller/ gimmick ever invented. Without it, the Move and Kinect probably wouldn't have ever existed. It started the motion control bullshit that we've had to endure. At least the Move controllers can be used with the PSVR which is pretty neat.

The Wii-mote also killed Nintendo for me from 2008 when I was gifted a Wii to when the Switch launched. When Wii-U stated it used the Wii-mote my automatic reaction was "**** that". It also did a great job of ruining my favorite Nintendo franchise, Zelda. Skyward Sword is the definition of how not to force motion controls on the player.

As for the Wii-mote successor, another shit controller name, the Joycon, it's rarely used as I bought two Pro controllers with the system. Also, had Nintendo said they were going to use motion controls as primary again in Switch, you can bet your ass I wouldn't have bought the system at all.

You should have given us options for multiple choices. Ended up picking the eye toy thing, but I wanted to pick Move AND Kinect.

Both were rip offs of the Wii when the year before, the gaming media and their fans mocked waggle. The Kinect deserves some credit for at least trying to be different. Though it cost a lot of money to make and their efforts were in vain. The Move was such a blatant rip off that's it's just sad. I would be embarrassed if I ripped my business rival off that much. Though it's on the same level as the Kinect since it most likely didn't cost as much to make.

The rest were at least somewhat functional in videogames.

After 1 week using the wiimote it made me realized how I needed to go buy a 360 or ps3. Hated the gimmick. Realize how we are back to controllers now...

Wii-mote is essential to the console, so classing this with other accessories shows a deep misunderstanding.

Move - blatant ripoff of the Wiimote and ONLY NOW, Sony has desperately revived the glowing dildo for it's VR. That's it really. Otherwise, it would still be a useless, gimmicky Wiimote copycat glowing dildo.

Kinect - the technology had promise and in my opinion more forward thinking than the rest. But we're not there yet, at least not in a '24th century Star Trek TNG style holodeck' form. But it was laggy, sloppy and it really had no practical use in gaming other than commands for Xbox One. However, I see Kinect or any tech based on it, being revived in a more practical form sometime in the future, especially in video games.

Kinect makes use of computer vision, which is being used in VR currently, so it's definitely made way for the future. Specifically it will be used to track your full body and microexpressions on your face, as well as the eyes.

Facial Tracking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCd1aRriIis

Hand Tracking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URUlBCEMUVw

Body Tracking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r01LLuf3LHI

Eye Tracking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQaOAJynIw0

All of which will be standard features in VR headsets within 3-5 years.

Kinect. The tech It self is somewhat interesting but it failed. The Wiimote, like it or not, was key for Wii's sales. Move was even worst than the Kinect but VR made it justifiable.

it has to be Kinect(lol) as MS dropped core to go 60%+ casual in 2009 to chase the Wii's pot pot of gold, only to realize their mistake and shit can Kinect, the $500 million dollar joke of the industry

Kinect never really worked, right? So that. It's kinda tempting to say Move though, since they completely ripped off the wiimote and made it super ugly.

All these were bad. There is no worst. Imagine if Mario Galaxy had been designed around a normal controller? Exactly.
