Worth getting another next-gen (or this-gen) now?

I've had a wii since launch; usually just keep one console and upgrade my PC as I go. I just bought an HD 4890 for my PC, as well as other components totalling around $400. Now I am really thinking about getting a ps3 since you can get them online for less than $300. My question is this: Is it worth getting a ps3 at this point when all 3 consoles have been out for a few years now? will they die out too soon for me to enjoy it? I really only want it for mgs4, infamous, etc.

Get a PS3, it will be at least 3 more years untill the next consoles come out. You are going to be missing out on some good games. I wouldn't get a 360 becasue you have a PC. I have a PC and PS3 and it is great.

I'd say it's worth it.

I'm personally waiting for some more games, but if you like what you see then get one. I don't think next gen will be coming soon.

Sony (and now, Microsoft) has said they're committed to a 10 year lifecycle - it's only been 3 years, I think the PS3 will be supported for a long time. It still hasn't reached the critical-mass price point; Sony isn't going to be putting out a better piece of hardware anytime soon. You might end up having to purchase PS Wand/Natal sometime down the line, though.

The very fact that many sources still refer to this generation as "next gen" is a sign that it's probably going to last for some time. Even if a new piece of hardware came out in 3-4 years, I still think most games will be 'downgraded' for the PS3 and 360 to reach a larger audience.

We don't know the future, but I would do what makes you HAPPY TODAY.

I could be a HOBO in 10 years, so I am not about to wait for anything.

Also, PS3 came out Xmas 2006, like the Wii, it's only been through TWO XMAS', so it's not even close to over.

Ps3 will be around for awhile, closest thing we will get from sony in terms of a new console in the next 3 years is a slimmer ps3. Whos to say that this wont be the longest gen for a sony console so far?

PS3/PC is the best combo this gen, you may only be thinking about 1 or 2 exclusives, but you'll end up wanting to play a lot of those multiplats on the PS3, specially if your into sports games, or fighting games, adventures games etc. PC gaming ownz all, but some experiences are better on consoles imo, and the Wii doesn't really cut it :P

I'm in the same boat as you, and I'm looking at a PS3. You could probably live without a PS3 though, if you're not an MGS4 fan.

you would do yourself some good getting a ps3...if you have a wii, ps3, and a pc....you're basically only missing out on gears 2, halo 3, odst, halo wars, forza....

I most certainly am though. I played through act 1 and 2 yesterday at my friend's house, and I can't live without it. So what most of you are saying is it's gonna last a few years.....up to 7 even?? Guess I'll go with it soon, hope you're all right...I'll probably just get the 40 GB version, can't imagine going higher...what's the point? are the larger systems just for music you put on or what? what would constitute the 80 gb machine?

Yeah, I think its worth it. I don't think we've really seen the potential of any of the machines yet, I think its just beginning. I expect the consoles life spans to be longer this generation than previous ones.

It's to make your e-peen bigger. I think 40GB is good enough.

I was wondering about that...

My sister removed her PS3 HDD and doesn't plan on ever installing it again. I told her the PS3 won't work without an HDD but I suppose she isn't interested in a E-peen, whatever that is. I will have to ask her and her GF.

The PS3 hard drive can be replaced with a SATA laptop hard drive. I had a 40 gb model and the drive wasn't big enough with the mandatory game installs (many new games are requiring 5 gb and up). I have all three consoles and they were all worth the money.

You know that there are still new games coming out for the PS2, right? Assuming that the PS3 will get the same treatment you will be on the safe side for years and years to come.
