Halo 3's campaign was average beyond redemption because the set pieces were dull, the level design is awful, the pacing is unispired, the vehicle sections are crap with crap controls, your ally A.I. is godawful, the enemy A.I. is poor, the weapons feel like plastic mattel toys, it's short, there's terrible replay value, its a rehashes Halo 2 & CE's gameplay, the scarab battles are a lame knock off of Half-Life 2's Strider battles, and overall it's boring. The game is more bearable with co-op but it still can't hide the fact that the single-player is run of the mill.

The story plain weak with obvious sci-fi cliches, formulaic plot, hamfisted dialogue, and a bland main character who's about well developed and compelling as a carboard cutout.

The multiplayer is solid and it's probably the only reason I play Halo 3.

Would anyone play or even buy Halo 3 without the multiplayer?

I believe a lot less people would play halo without it, but then again that's for most FPSes with multiplayer.

Would ANYONE?

Sure, but I'm sure it would not be as big a seller as it is. I am going to guess and say that it would sell 25-50% of the copies if that happened. Still wonderful sales though.

That's a lot of hate for a singleplayer campaign. You need to calm down and see that compared to other fps campaigns halo 3 is actually pretty good. And don't you even try to use half life 2 as a better example. That game was good but it had some of the most boring and repetitive levels ever and the strider battles were nothing really exciting.

Yeah,Yeah Yeah,TC .Halo is more original and not nearly as boring as your rant.If you dont like a game thats fine but to call it a horrible game when there are so many fans of this AAA franchise and to rant about it so long after its release. This is just an obvious attempt to bash Halo, same ol',same ol',just another failed Halo bashing topic.

Played the SP about 4-5 times. Don't play the MP.

TC's Halo bashing thread #3,428 fails again. At least he is persistent :)

Whatever your opinion on the game, alot of people did buy it purely for SP. Personally I don't see why it gets so much hate, I loved the story and set pieces (although admittedly alot of the epicness came from the music, voice acting and cinematography). It was massive step up from Gears and KZ2 imo. And don't give me that 'MC has no personality' stuff, just look at Half Life, no one complains about it's story just because of Gordon Freeman (not that I'm saying Half Life 2 isn't the best FPS ever made, because it most definitely is :P).

i did. i wish i didnt. i already had halo1 and 2...i could have just played those again. i wouldnt be quite as harsh on it as you TC....my main complaint is that its just a rehash of halo1. those 30 seconds over and over again get boring...they got boring after the earth level in halo2 imho. as a SP game there are far FAR superior games out there. its average at best. i dont care about the MP...im sure its great but im not a big MP fan so i dont really care.

Yandere
Well, I'm sure there are a lot of Sci-fi buffs out there that would play it just for the story. And I for one know at least one person who doesn't even have an active internet connection at his house (he's got more important things to pay for, like mortgage, gas, etc, and he's laid off) so he just gets games for the single player aspect. I personally don't think I'd like FPS games as much without online, but I hope that situation never happens. At any rate, with Halo 3, I doubt it's sales would have been even half that of what they currently are without online. I'm pretty sure that a vast majority of it's commercial success is due to it's online. Then again, I can't underestimate the power of the fanboy. I guess the best way to answer this question is with another question. "Would you buy Halo 3 if it went from an FPS to a game where you sit and watch virtual paint dry in the shape of masterchiefs helmet?"

Are you trying to compare the Halo SP to paint drying, or is that just phrased wrong?

Another Halop hate thrread, Seriously. But yes I have and enjoy Halo 3 without xbox live and the game always finds its way back into my disk drive. The forge is great and I love to create maps and share them with my friends and the local coop is still one of the best coop experiances out there.

No I wouldn't play it..... I played halo 2 for sp for a while on PC and Halo 3 at freinds house sp and mp and it sucked ... it always felt overrated and boring compared to PC shooters, Crysis, Stalker, Resistance, Killzone 2 , and hell even UT2004, and Quake 3/4 are better than Halo!!! I will even go as far and say Duke Nukem 3D and Wolfenstien are better than halo. The only reason it's so popular, as kids around the 13 year old age love to follow trends. All their friends playing it from watching an over abundance of subliminal messaged commercials, Pizza hut ads, mountian dew bottles, and cheap halo toys made halo a trend for youngins to follow. I would much rather play Resistance or KZ2 on console or Stalker, or Crysis on PC ...hell even COD1/3/4/Waw is btter than halo.... Medal of honor 1 on PS1 is better than halo...lol.. Yeah I don't like halo, could you tell?

Maybe nowadays...but the single player game in COD1 and COD2 were long, you know when they were MADE for PC and proted to console (or not ported at all cod1) COD1 used to have epic long sp... COD2 is still more epic sp than the crap today! I am glad there was good ww2 sp games like hell's highway as cod just doesn't cut it for sp anymore. as that is what i like way more than mp...

Would anyone play or even buy Halo 3 without the multiplayer?

g805ge

I stopped reading there because you were proven wrong on this, just like your thread. Can you get a life, stop posting Halo hate topics, and go play games you actually like?

Also, I would like to point out that if Halo 2/3 did not have multiplayer, Bungie would've worked entirely on the campaigns.

Judging by your logic that if Bungie hadn't put in all the painstaking effort into crafting the Halo 3 experience (Forge, Matchmaking, Theatre, Fileshare) then I'm almost positive that all that effort would've been put into the campaign, and the SP would've been beyond incredible.

The game isn't storyline focused, 95% of modern FPS' are multiplayer based. So, no but that goes with most shooters aswell.

I did. I didn't even have LIVE when I got Halo 3. The campaign is still very good, just not as great as Halo or Halo 2.
