If Sony called killzone 2 Halozone2 obviously it would of sold 8 million copies. In fact i think it's a safe bet to just stop making names and go the halo route. Gears of Halo, Halo kazooie, Hable 3, little big halo, motorhalo, metal gear halo.
Game industry saved.
i doubt it. the gameplay is pretty bad. its sad watching ensemble go out with such rubbishshadow_hosiStrange, I find the gameplay to be good and rather exciting. Unless, you're referring to the simplicity -- which, if you're an Ensemble fan (like me), you'd understand that this is nothing new. (a la AoE3)
this is a pretty simple question and even fanboys wont argue.offcourse not,and its not only halo give a game the words final fantasy sth and you get a million marker.thats how it works, you expect quality games from the big companies but in the end some end bad like halo wars, some may like it but alot are saying they like it cause they gave their money and have to justify their purchase......
Here's what I don't think many of you don't understand -- the Halo brand is very powerful, yes; but if the game itself was named "Spirit of Fire" instead of "Halo Wars". I still see it selling the same amount. Why? Easy. The advertising would still be the same, the commercials would still be the same. The boxart would still be the same, everything about it would still be the same. Everyone who knows "Halo" could eaasily recognize a "Halo" game without seeing the word "Halo" in the title.
Look at the boxart: only a fool would not know it's a Halo game.
Maybe most people just like it? How did Halo 2 Vista sell? I don't know, how did it sell and whats more how does that disprove my point? If it sold bad, there could many reasons for that. Lets list off the top of my head...[QUOTE="FloWeN-UK"]
No it sold because it's got the HALO nameStevo_the_gamer
- Forced to used use Vista? Many PC gamers regard Vista as a pretty crappy OS. Theres a big loss of sales right there.
- Is the HALO franchise such a big deal to PC gamers with their higher standards and all. I think not.
- HALO is home on the XBOX.
- Piracy, LOL
How did Halo 2 Vista sell?A 3 year old game, competeting with the likes of Stalker, Crisis, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4 and The Orange Box, with a gold membership required to access many features and a vista exclusive title?[QUOTE="FloWeN-UK"]

Obviously not very well .. but of course, for proof that a brand helps sell a game it must overcome all those shortcomings right? lol, branding in the games industry is a tried and true method, brand recognition and harnessing a brands fanbase are two benefits of this strategy, and it worked for Halo Wars.

If you are just arguing the tecnicality of the name then sure, you're probably right. I think TC was more alluding to the game not having Halo branding and being something else entirely.

I don't know? :P I'm trying hard to read into TC title (since there is no post following). It just seems weird that he would want to know if a game had a name change but was basically advertised as part of Halo would sold the same. It just seems too obvious. I assumed he was saying if they reskinned the game so it played the same but had no Halo exterior would it have sold as much.

You're splitting hairs, yes his semantics were flawed, but generally the message is that the Halo brand helps games sell.. i'm pretty sure Halo 2 vista would of sold pretty worse without the halo name, but ofc that's aside from the point. You said originally in this thread that the Halo brand didn't help, with the gravitas the Halo brand holds in the Xbox community, i find that hard to beleive.
I thought it sold because it had Halo in the name: meaning, anything with Halo in the name sells big? Having second thoughts?
Stevo_the_gamer
Nope not really. What I say is perfectly understandable. HALO started out on the XBOX therefore thats where the HALO fanbase is. Further more PC gamers are alot smarter than to buy a game off brand name alone. Point being HALO sells on consoles. It made it's name on the consoles.

my faded memory of what i read on the first page told me that, what you actually said was that you thought it would of sold just as well .. the same amount .. suggesting the brand name didn't help it sell more than it could of sold without the Halo tag. Which i guess is quite similiar to what I claimed you said, that's the implication that I gathered anyway. If i'm wrong then tell me what you really meant, then i'll stand corrected. If this is just more semantics then I'll conclude that this is just yet another frivolous SW disscussion.

Ok, this is where things begin to get fanboyish. Not at all. Theres alot of casual gamers on the consoles and where theres easy to please casual gamers, theres money to be laundered. Face it when when all those HALO fanbois saw HALO Wars sitting on the shelves they didn't even give it a second thought. Insta sale right there and they probably don't even like the RTS genre.I've been consistently referring to the title of the game itself -- not the brand within the game. Meaning, I've been only referring to the NAME of the title itself. If the TITLE of the game was merely Spirit of Fire INSTEAD of Halo Wars, it would sell around the same amount.my faded memory of what i read on the first page told me that, what you actually said was that you thought it would of sold just as well .. the same amount .. suggesting the brand name didn't help it sell more than it could of sold without the Halo tag. I stand by this because of the advertising, the boxart, everything would be the same except the title of the game itself.
Edit: Afterall, I was only answering the TCs question -- since he offers no ellaboration on what he means, for I know, he could be referring to the title of the game itself only.

The hardcore PC gamers don't represent the whole PC community, games like the Sims, Peggle, Dinner Dash and others still prove to be popular, there are undoubetly 'casual' gamers that game primarily on PC, after all, the PC is the biggest gaming platform for a reason, they surely must have some 'less smart' 'casual' gamers, right. Generalisations wont get you anywhere in an argument, especially when they smell of elitism.[QUOTE="FloWeN-UK"]

You see Valve don't milk their franchises to hell and back much like Bungie are doing with HALO right now. Their a highly trusted and as far as I know they have never failed to deliver when it comes to making quality games. Anyway where talking about HALO Wars here, a crappy RTS title that wont be remembered for anything other than having the HALO name and being crap. Theres already been a bazzillion better RTS's before it. To praise this game is laughable at best and pretty much an insult to the RTS genre itself.

Ok. I've seen that post now. That's curious, maybe you're deliberately being obscure just to wrong foot people and score cheap points, I think the general message of the thread is quite obvious, although it's vague, it's likely that he means the brand, and you probably knew that, or maybe i'm just being unfair, but this is system wars, how could it not be a question about the Halo brand? But fair enough, with a unecessary clinical and semantical approach, i can see your point.

Halo wars being "crappy" is your opinion. Your opinion means nothing to anyone besides you, and even you know your opinion sucks. Lol Valve dont milk franchises, L4D2?Please Log In to post.
