Would Nintendo fans benefit if either the Wii U or 3DS failed?

Not that I think either is very likely but imagine only having to purchase one system to get all the new Nintendo games, instead of two.

Potentially more variety in exclusives - Nintendo wouldn't be obligated to provide two systems with Marios and Zeldas. So, for example, instead of New Super Mario Bros 2 and New Super Mario Bros U we'd just get one of them and then, maybe something new.

Failure would bring either the colapse of Nintendo or make them stop fooling their fans with useless gimmicks.

In a way, it could benefit them yes... too bad it won't happen, thus is the enchanment Ninty holds over the sheep.

+1 Sales alone for any first party game outside of Mario would be barely enough to fund a sequel especially if they kept their "we will release it when its ready" development cycle.

Nintendo without their own console would be a very sad sight... could even be as bad as the current Sega.
