Poll Would you be happy with a console market monopolized by Sony? (135 votes)

Yes 19%
No 70%
No way Sony can do that. 17%

With the way things are going I can see MS pulling out of the console market if the next 5 years go as bad as these past couple years.

Nintendo not so much. But hypothetically speaking if it were to happen. Would you welcome it?

Competition is good for the consumer and good for business.

So why would anyone be ok with a market monopoly?

I don't know about the rest of the world but here in the U.S, we have Anti-Consumer Law AKA Competition Law. I don't think my Country wouldn't allowed Sony to play the Monopoly game here. Take Nvidia for example.

I just want all games on PC. MS has already done there part with Play Anywhere. Sony has half-assed it with PlayStation Now and Nintendo seems to be content with people playing their games through emulators instead of releasing them and making money on PC.

This.

History has shown that no one company can ever totally monopolize the console industry. Once one company leaves, another one will take its place.

Now as for dominating the industry, I have no problems with Sony doing that. They always put games first so I'd rather have them leading and MS and Nintendo following than the other way around. Last time Nintendo led the industry we had motion controls and casual trash overload, and MS has already shown at the start of the gen what would happen if they were to lead the industry.

Pretty much this. Competition is good for the industry and keeps them on their P's & Q's. Sony makes better games. Microsoft has BC & XB1X. Nintendo has innovation and fun ass games lol

I think you'll see Sony take over the vg market when you see Iran take over as the Very Best NHL hockey players in the world. To be totally honest, I think we'll see Sony accomplish the vg market takeover first. ?

Yes, why not.

SONY is the only company that proved care about their consoles under the nastier circumstances. Not Xbox nor Nintendo at this point are competitors. Xbox is out of the picture again and nintendo doing their own thing. Sony in meanwhile is not slowing down. At all ...

I'd like it if Sony had another crack at the handheld market, but I understand their cautiousness. The Vita had some serious potential though.

@AzatiS: Home consoles yes, handheld consoles not so much. As somebody else said on this forum once before, Sony treats its handhelds like second class citizens. Plus they dropped support for the PS TV wayyy too quickly. That thing could have been huge.

Sony does one thing right and that's 1st party exclusives but even with that not much variety there. Majority of their 1st party games are all 3rd person action adventure games. Everything else is just average at best to me.

If MS pulls away from consoles I hope another competitor takes its place. Maybe, perhaps two competitors. I think the only they can do it is by realeasing a bunch of exclusives.

Or create a console version of fortnite

No, I wouldn’t want any company to monopolize the industry. Anyone who does either has a very short term memory, is incredibly naive to how corporations operate, or is a maniacal fanboy.

Hell no! Anybody that wants to see any company have a monopoly of the console market is stupid. Go take an Economics class and learn why competition is healthy for the overall industry and why monopolies are bad for consumers.

Trust me, I've experienced some industries that I'm a fan of get to the point where one company had a monopoly and it sucks. Even when it was my favorite company that ended up monopolizing the industry, it sucked because without competition to keep them in check and push them to improve, their product quickly went downhill, so I don't want to see that happen to the video game industry as well.

And if I was forced to pick one company to have a monopoly, Sony would be the last choice that I would pick for that since I hate the Hollywood direction that they are trying to take video games in and I think that they have proven that they are the least innovative of all of the console makers.

No. It is bad for innovation, business, and consumers. Sony will have no check and accountability if it does bad, gaming will eventually stagnate and will eventually decline.

Sony can't monopolize the console market. I mean at one point Atari and Nintendo were the kings of gaming and look what happened. Hell the PS3 fiasco showed that Sony doesn't have Teflon coating. Even if Microsoft were to leave, Nintendo might dominate the generation after or someone would take their spot.

No, competition is good.

Just look at Nvidia prices on the 1000 series cards that are what, over 2 years old now?

Or look at Intel and their blatant sandbagging from the launch of the original i7 to Ryzen finally offering up some competiton.

Of course not. This is why danielsul's threads and the obsessive sonysuperiority squad are disturbing. Neither MS not Sony should "win the war once and for all" because they are literally at their worst when they aren't battling competition. We, the gamers, lose when these companies aren't begging for our money

Hell no. They need the competition. That's why all this crossplay talk needs to go. Consoles don't need to be syphoning each other, they need to bring their own strengths.

lol people that say yes sure do not understand the point of competition. Without competition there would be little pressure to improve. Prices would go up for no reason, and quality would go down.

Nope. If that happens, Sony will make more and more ips exclusive to it's consoles to force us to buy their consoles. (Similar to the way they stole the Spider-Man from us)

For example then you would see all Star Wars, Resident Evil,Devil May Cry, Mortal Kombat , Batman and etc becoming exclusive to PS4.(Which is a nightmare)

Wanna hear something funny ? The second class citizen called VITA had more games to offer than wii U when Wii U was alive.

Also dont you even compare Sony with Nintendo. When Sony was in the biggest financial crisis any electronic company of our era ever was with multibillion losses for every year of PS3s life ( and Vita ) they didnt pull the plug, meanwhile Nintendo with epic profits and sales of Wii did. Go figure. And let me tell you something even funnier. Vita still getting few games here and there ... wii U is dead long ago.

Comparing Sony with Nintendo isnt the way to go to prove something, these two are totally the opposite. Just pray to god or something for Switch to not get into life support way earlier than it should and let Sony do what they do every single generation.

I think it's safe to say Sony will monopolize everything one day. Sometime in the not so distant future, I will wake up to a breakfast of s-O-nies, my automated dualspoon will feed me but frequently run out of battery and furthermore social equality will finally be achieved - everybody receives a weekly paycheck of 599 US dollars.
