If XBL were free, do you think it will be one more reason to get a 360?

I've just finished playing some Fifa at work on the 360, although at home I have a PS3 (but I had a 360 before, but never connected to the internet) and it got me thinking: I'd probably have a 360 again if I wouldn't have to pay to play online.

This has nothing to do with PSN being down right now, since I don't play that much online, it doesn't bother me, and that's also why I didn't pay for XBL back in the day, cuz I get online 2 or 3 times a month.

Thoughts?

I think that would make the 360 much more appealing, but as for myself I'm not really that big on online gaming anymore. I prefer the PS3 for the games, not necessarily the fact that PSN is free.

I'd buy Xbox 360 either way, because I own a Wii and 360, no PS3.

Yes, but I already have all 3. And I don't have live... So making LIVE free would be awesome for MS.

I own a 360 and pay for live already, so it probably wouldn't make a difference to me.

Yeah of course, then you have the games, which are still my priority when buying a console, that's why I own a PS3, I has a better SP library IMO.

I was close to buying a 360 until a friend sold me his PS3 for about 200. Considered a 360 many times since then, but might wait until next gen Xbox and pass on the 360 for now. There's not exactly a shortage of games after all.

eh, probably not.

the online is one incentive for me not to buy it. my other incentive is lack of games I'm interested in.

Halo, Gears and Forza (rinse and repeat) just won't do it for me.

Nah. The 30eur / year isn't that big of a problem cause the service is pretty good and mostly lag free due to the vast number of Microsoft's servers around the world. I'd certainly pick the 360 over PS3 if it had more exclusives for core gamers.

Thoughts?

Arthas017

No. The yearly price has very little to do with why I don't want an Xbox 360. I don't want one because the hardware is unreliable and it has next to nothing in games I want that I can't already get on either PC or the PS3. After those two MAJOR issues, then I look at the little things like yearly live fees, batteries for the controller (vs the PS3's being rechargeable. Also the 360 doesn't have Blu-Ray, a browser, or all the PS3 exclusives I want. Like the Wii, there really isn't anything they can do to get me to buy their console.

You mentioned a lot of reasons why I switched to PS3, if I could only play Mass Effect 1 (I know I can play it on PC, but I got used to play it with a controller :P)

I do, my question to you is: Can I play Mass Effect on the PC with the radial menu as I did on the 360?

Not instead, but it would make it more appealing to pick one up. The thing is though, the lack of differentiation on the 360. There's very little that it has unique to itself that doesn't have a counterpart, which is done better, on another platform.

I don't even think the Live cost would prevent me from buying one at this point, since all the exclusives which feature online on the 360 aren't my kind of games.

It just came across when I was playing at work, and we have a Wii and a 360 here. At home I have a PS3 and I play Fifa there too. So, for example, now that you mention it, this is actually one of the reasons for the topic: if XBL were free, will you have Fifa for 360 or PS3? Or any other game, I mean, I just wanna know wha t if XBl were free, would you consider X360 a better option, besides games available.

hope it's clear now ;)

What's the point in even asking? It's not like it will ever happen, and those who say they would get one probably wouldn't, even if XBL did go free.

Lmmings won't like it but I kinda prefer playing multiplats on my PS3. It's quieter, controllers don't need batteries, no worries about RROD and the differences in multiplats is the most exagerated thing in videogame history.

TBH, my 360 never gave me a problem. The controllers do feel different, Both are good, but I had to play for a week or so before getting used to the 360's. When I got my PS3, it felt natural. The LB and RB are way to high for me, but I´ve got admit, PS3 triggers suck.

Nope, too many awesome exclusives on PS3. The only 360 exclusives I even remotely want are Gears of War and Halo.

When I was deciding which console to buy between 360/PS3 (that was late 2009 or early 2010), it was not much of a dilema to be honest. 360 was significantly cheaper back than, but that was about it.

I checked IGNs list of top 25 games on both consoles.

360 was something like this: Mass Effect (Ive already finished it on PC), Fallout 3 (already finished it on PC), Bioshock (I played it on PC and didnt like it), Oblivion (I played it on PC and didnt like it), and maybe Halo 3 (I played both Halo 1 and Halo 2 on PC and I didnt like them) and some other games that I either played on PC already or didnt want to play at all.

PS3 was something like this: Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, Little Big Planet, Infamous, Demons Souls, Warhawk, Resistance 2, Valkyria Chronicles, etc. etc. Great variety of excellent (back then generally brand new) games I couldnt ever play on my PC. And that was BEFORE Heavy Rain, God of War 3 and Killzone 3 came out. I was glad to pay the extra money for PS3 and I wouldnt change it since the difference is even bigger now than it was before. Even today I must say the best games Ive played on PS3 are all PS3 exclusives.

But yes, one of the things that annoys me is having to pay.

I choose XBOX 360 and I don't mind paying for LIVE. The PS3 is just an awful console and the current situation with PSN is just further evidence of that.

BlbecekBobecek

Games is what this is all about, TBH, MGS4 and Demon's Souls were the games why I bought a PS3, and as you say even the price difference wasn´t that much, back then you´ve got wi-fi, internal battery controllers, and online whereas my 360 didn´t have any of those, and 512mb of storage, but was like $100 cheaper (where live, not US).

Oh yeah, and until now, I still haven´t found such great games as MGS4, Demon's Souls, God of War 3, Uncharted 1 & 2 on the 360, so I agree here with you, PS3 exclusives have great quality in this gen. Too bad sales are not about quality :(

Well, no. It doesnt have any exclusives that even interest me. PS3 only has demon souls and dark souls soon. Im really hoping Kingdom Hearts 3 will come also.

Plus ps3 netflix interface is better now, which is about the only thing consoles are good for once you have a gaming pc.

Even if Sony didn't have online at all and XBL was free, I would still gamd on ps3. I almost only play sp and the ps3 library is many times stronger imo.

I certainly would game on XBL more, but Sony has better first party games man, and they churn them out on a fairly regular basis. I just feel like MS doesnt even try anymore... so... no, I wouldnt game on a 360 over a PS3.

No, the online aspect was not a selling point for any console. I bought them for the games and if the games happen to have a MP component ,well that's a bonus. Some of my favorite games this gen are SP only.

Nope, still doesn't have the games that interest me. Plus, I don't play much online on PS3 as it is.
