Hmm I wouldn't buy a 360 instead of buying a PS3 but I might have picked it up for cheap if it had free online. I have a bunch of friends who own it so gaming with them would be nice.
Im a 360 only guy atm. Ive owned a ps3 a few times though, might pick another up some time. I would never be without a 360 for doing the majority of my gaming. Personal preferance I guess, I could list a bunch of reasons why but not everyone would agree. The consoles largely have the same library aside from a handfull of exclusives on either console so bashing either system for its library is stupid. As far as live goes, it costs less than a pack of cigarettes per month so it makes no difference to me.
If paying 5 bucks a month for what has historically been the best on-line service on consoles and not to mention, just recently with whats happened to PSN ( oops, I guess I just mentioned it :P ) is too much then perhaps you shouldn't even be buying VG's. :o
As a PC gamer, the main reason I bought the PS3 is for the better exclusives, since 95% of the games I would ever want play on the 360 I could already get for the PC. So I would probably stick with my original choice.
It would make it a more tempting offer, though. Online gaming should be free, simple as that. If Microsoft want to charge for other features, so be it. But gaming should be free.
No. The yearly price has very little to do with why I don't want an Xbox 360. I don't want one because the hardware is unreliable and it has next to nothing in games I want that I can't already get on either PC or the PS3. After those two MAJOR issues, then I look at the little things like yearly live fees, batteries for the controller (vs the PS3's being rechargeable. Also the 360 doesn't have Blu-Ray, a browser, or all the PS3 exclusives I want. Like the Wii, there really isn't anything they can do to get me to buy their console.[QUOTE="Arthas017"]
If XBL were free, do you think it will be one more reason to get a 360?
I've just finished playing some Fifa at work on the 360, although at home I have a PS3 (but I had a 360 before, but never connected to the internet) and it got me thinking: I'd probably have a 360 again if I wouldn't have to pay to play online.
This has nothing to do with PSN being down right now, since I don't play that much online, it doesn't bother me, and that's also why I didn't pay for XBL back in the day, cuz I get online 2 or 3 times a month.Thoughts?

#1) The new 360 Slim is just as reliable as the PS3 "fatty" and the PS3 slim.
#2) The 360's overall game library is vastly larger than the PS3's fyi imho.
#3) Most people that complain about paying for on-line are either under age minors or unemployed young people still living at home with their parents imho.
#4) There is a rechargeable pack for the 360 (i thought this was common knowledge though) and holds a charge far longer than the DS3! A google search will confirm this btw.
#5) Stand alone Bly-Ray players are a lot cheaper than a PS3 now.
#6) I would figure that in 2012 most people would have a desk top PC or some sort of mobile PC solution to help with the majority of their basic Internet needs, so i don't see how a console browser can be a "winning" feature unless your a minor who's just discovered that he can access porn on his PS3! In which case would be an automatic "win" along with the free on-line refer to #3 as well.
#7) The better games or exclusives argument is subjective imho.

1. That's good to hear.2. How large the 360's library is means nothing to mean. I only care about the games I want to play. And 90% of those games are also on the PS3 and/or the PC.
3. I complain about paying for online because I am a PC gamer and my online which is free is better than your online that you have to pay for. Get the picture now. ;)
4. I don't want to have to swap out batteries all the time and I like the PS3 controller more.
5. Who cares when I get a console and Blu-Ray player as one unit for cheaper than a console AND Blu-Ray player.
6. I have kids, I don't allow anybody on my PC and my girl is always on hers doing school work. The browser would be for my kids.
7. I agree and in my opinion the PS3 has the better exclusives and when it comes to my gaming purchases, my opinion is the only opinion that matters. ;) When you start buying my consoles and the games for them, then I will care more about what you think on exclusives.

I've been a gamer for about 13 years, and I never paid to play online, and I take care of myself economically speaking.
#4) There is a rechargeable pack for the 360 (i thought this was common knowledge though) and holds a charge far longer than the DS3! A google search will confirm this btw.
I know about it, but just as playing online, I have to pay extra for it, so at the end of the day, I get more on the PS3 with what's included when I buy the console.
No, because most of 360's games are sucky FPS or are simply better (imo) on the PS3.
I do love Fable, though.
if its online were free i would probably start using my 360 again. i dont use it nor do i buy games for it anymore since i cancelled my xbl subscription like 2 years ago. being a heavy steam user and pc gamer, i refuse to pay just to play online. makes no sense
Personally I don't think that would be the only reason for someone to spend $300 and stop playing their current console. PS3 has a buttload of exclusives like infamous and God of War that would be a major factor in owning a PS3 in the first place. Halo and Gears are great, but so are Uncharted and Killzone.
It would definitely take more then a free online service.
