I figured I'd recreate this since I was curious.

I honestly don't think that Sony will even make another handheld, but who knows. I really liked my Vita but I ended up liking the 3DS more.

The build quality, design and power of the Vita hardware crushed the 3DS. The game quality and quantity on the 3DS crushed the Vita. Unfortunately for the Vita, games are more important than hardware.

I think they made a lot of mistakes with the Vita that could be corrected with a successor, similar to how we saw ps4 correct a lot of the ps3's mistakes. That said, I'm just not sure if the market is profitable enough for Sony to even want to bother contending with the powerhouse that is Nintendo.

Sony represents the success story of home console gaming.

Nintendo represents the success story of handheld gaming.

I have a feeling they may rest on their laurels.

Yes.

Sony makes better designs and better hardware miles better than Nintendo and hardware is always a major plus to me.

In regards to games Sony's handhelds are known for having a lot of Japanese games made for them so just like the PSP and Vita if there's a Vita 2 then that'll be a day 1

I don't determine what I'd buy without knowing the features and games of the machine.

That said, I'm not a big handheld gamer.

i prefer Sony's hardware over Nintendo's. Nintendo is on a whole different level when it comes to delivering content, though.

so, games, Sony. games.

Nope. Vita was never properly pushed or supported by Sony with it getting ports of PS3 games. It's the only machine I regret buying. So much wasted potential.

No, but I won't be buying any dedicated handheld game systems for me anymore. If this generation of handheld systems taught me anything it's that current handheld gaming sucks.

I refurbished my Sega Game Gear and will be posting some videos and a recommendation for who fixed it as well as linking to a how too if you have the tools. I kind of find it a bit shocking that there hasn't been a refurbishing thread sticky yet.

Probably. I'd be more cautious with whatever Nintendo puts out next, especially if it's more garbage like 240p and 96ppi.

The 3DS is really in 240p? Wow, that's actually a bit surprising, though it always looks better on screen to me in terms of resolution.

It's no secret I'm a Vita owner and lover. But I would honestly wait and see if they ever create another handheld system. There will be rules:

1. No mention of it "power" in terms of its console brother. Just state that it is a good leap from its predecessor.

2. A MUCH better WIFI antennae. It needs to be able to handle streaming game content without a lot of lag. The Vita still lags on a 30MB connection with QOS and no one else using the internet but me and I'm not far from my new router at that.

3. No proprietary memory cards. SD cards are fine and very cheap. Make your security in the software more robust to stave off the hacking as long as possible.

4. Bring back dat OLED. I will never buy a slim model with a degraded screen.

5. Invest in the platform and give it its own identity. 1st party games are a MUST. Don't release the lil monster if you can't make it worth having in the 1st place.

Do this and I may buy the device. If these reasonable requests aren't met,no money for you!

Would you buy another Sony handheld?

Nope, I'm happy with my PSP and when it comes to handhelds Ninty is king of the hill, reason why I got GBA, DS, DSiXL, 3DS XL and new 3DS XL.

Sony has the worst first party games ever, they can't even sell the Vita so they stopped making games for it and rely on indie or niche games from Japan

I don't know, my experiences with Sony handhelds have been mixed at best.

If it is reasonably priced, and it includes some interesting games that aren't just crappy ports of their console games, and If it uses a standard memory card like a microSD instead of Sony's way over priced proprietary memory, then yes I would probably consider it.

Tho they are awsome systems..... there is never anything to play on it to justify even half the price of the system.

Idk if I'll ever get another SONY handheld. I havent gotten a VITA yet and I doubt I'll ever.

Depends. The Traditional Handheld Market is on the decline so Sony would need to completely change their marketing strategy. I'd say do what they tried to do with the PSP GO (make it a digital focused platform) and actually make it so all the PS1 and PS2 Digital Titles are compatible, in addition to the PSP, Vita, and PSN titles.

Always a companion piece or just a lesser cousin of console experience, and not fully tailored for truly handheld gaming.

I really liked the hardware of the Vita. The games that the system did have were decent, but unlike Nintendo I think Sony has a lot of trouble carrying a system almost exclusively on its first and second-party games.

One factor that really bothered me about the Vita was that it had a lot of remakes, too many mobile or microtransaction-style games, and the AAA titles being made for the system (while they looked fantastic) were usually short and lacked a lot of depth. They also did little to support the PSOne and PS2 Classics on the system, probably because they dropped those in favor of PS Now.

It also didn't help that a lot of games being made for the Vita were cross-buy with the PS3, meaning that if you bought the PS3 version of a game you'd get the Vita version for free as a download... However this did little to inspire people who didn't have a Vita already to buy one.

Probably the largest issue of all, however, was the hefty cost of the memory card for the Vita. Required in order to use the thing, but nearly 1/3 the cost of the device if you wanted one with plenty of space. Games on the PS store were also often overpriced, to the point where an old PSP game available for download would still be $30 or $40.

I think the Vita had a lot of value going for it thanks to the integration with PSN and PS Plus, and it is probably the first handheld system that has done downloadable games really well. It'sjust a shame that Sony brushed the Vita aside and turned it into a companion device to the PS3 and PS4, rather than really getting behind the thing and pushing it as a true competitor to the 3DS.

First off.. looking at your member since date. How is that possible?

I consider YS Memories of Celecta a great game..

Also, I think people forget about the ability to download and play older titles. I currently have downloaded and am playing Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Heroes trails in the sky, FF Tactics War of the Lion, and older YS games.

Not all of us are into the whole Anime game thing, I'm very much a Western gamer, that stuff does not appeal to me. I own 16 consoles, if I wanted to play older titles I would get them on my other systems, not a Vita.

@nyadc: The matter of validation is different. Subjectivity often lies in that and what is considered a great game, but there's plenty of great stuff on Vita. It still has more 9.0 games than the 3DS on GameSpot, for example.

Im not into anime either, I just like those games.

You have 16 consoles, I don't. I have 2. My PSP broke a couple years back so I just play PSP games on my Vita. I guess it depends on the consumer if they can justify the purchase. For me it was well worth it. For you.. not so much.

Depends. Never at release though. Current status of first party support on Vita is beyond "lacking," it's downright disgusting. I feel scammed by Sony's attitude towards the customers who actually fucking supported Vita despite the whole world laughing at it. Thankfully, as with other Sony stuff, Japanese third party is quite strong with this, so I don't regret purchasing Vita for now, but that has literally nothing to do with Sony. I like Vita because I like games on it, and vast majority of games on that system that I enjoy are not from Sony. To me, only thing Sony did well with Vita was OLED, and look what happened.

Don't even get me started on save back-ups and memory cards.
