As title. If playing games online is free on xbox 360, would you pay $50 an year for cross game chat?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I already pay a bill for "cross game chat" it's called a cellphone bill. Humble-AdonisPshh, then you don't know the value of a dollar.
I belive he means that if multiplayer gaming was free, but you still had to pay for party and video chat and things like zune. This makes no sense. If online gaming were free for 360, the $50 fee would have no reason to be implemented, or to stay implemented.

I understand, but I don't understand how it would still be $50. You pay $50 for added features, on top of online play, so how could it be the same without the online play.

I think that is his point.... He is asking if xbox live would be worth paying for if it was still 50 dollars that didn't include the online play... Hes not saying it would be the same price, he is asking would you pay that price if thats all it got you.[QUOTE="lundy86_4"][QUOTE="svenus97"] I belive he means that if multiplayer gaming was free, but you still had to pay for party and video chat and things like zune.gamer620

Of course it wouldn't be worth it, because a.) it makes 0 sense, and b.) you're paying a fee for the online gaeplay as well as features.
so basically live fee is a rip off since i can play games online on my ps3. okay i will not subscribe it after my gold membership expire next week. I will just mod my arcade since it's 100% legal in canada, and play all online games on my ps3.

It is 100% a crime in Canada:
"Modifying a console and computer is considered an illegal act under section 342.1 of the Criminal Code and is punishable by imprisonment for up to ten years," the RCMP said in the statement."

He never said PSN was better and that Live was a rip off, you are just one of those people that think everyone is attacking them.

did they actually enforce this law? do they give ppl reward for reporting mod center? cuz I know a lot of ppl mod their 360, if there is a reward for reporting. lol that would be good. ANyway from original statement, it just sounds like they only arrest people who modify, distribute and reproduce pirated games and consoles. It seems they still not enforce it on end users. lol it sucks. That's why I dont like xbox 360. Cuz pirated users make ppl who pay $60 for games like assassin's creed 2 look like an idiots.

I doubt there is a reward for reporting, but it is still highly illegal. No matter which way it's cut.
Cross chat as a premium pay per service feature wouldn't work. My theory is if the PSN does start charging for premium features, Cross game chat will have to come out for both free and paid users. I mean think, how would people cross game chat if half of their friends didn't pay for the service. You'd have to make the entire thing a paid service, or make that feature free for it to work.
It says the thread was created May 13th, and it is still May 12th here. same here[QUOTE="svenus97"][QUOTE="NielsNL"]
Repeating 2 day old threads now? Is this really how creative SW has become?

that can only mean 1 thing.... this thread is from the future!!! :o

yes, that is the stupidity in the argument. But that doesn't take away from the question he asked despite its stupidity. It doesn't make zero sense. It is just stupid logic.[QUOTE="iamdanthaman"]Would you pay for premium gasoline if regular was free? No you wouldn't, but it doesn't matter because it's not.oajlu
not really. cuz wii, psn and steam are free!
But you are not comparing Xbox live to those services are you? you are attempting to make a standalone argument based on Xbox live being free or not. So the existence of other free online gaming services is irrelevant. If you want to make that argument then make it, don't try and mask it underneath some ridiculous hypothetical situation. PSN is not Xbox live without cross game chat no matter how many times you say it.But if we are operating on that assumption, then lets go there. If someone invented a car that ran on water, so that the fuel was free. But on its initial release was far more expensive than other cars. But then, to make it more affordable, the manufacturer started pulling features, like, taking out the radio, air bags, air conditioner, etc. so that it then cost as much as other comparable cars, but it was also far less reliable once it got on the road(online) and only drove 25 mph. Would you still buy that car?iamdanthaman
I assume you're referring to the PS3. If so, the online features haven't been stripped away (that I know of. If some have, feel free to embarrass lol), but the Other OS feature, backwards compatibility feature, etc.. have. While bad, they have nothing to do with online functionality.
Still, I think you're just trying to make a point to the guy who used flawed comparisons by using a flawed comparison yourself ("But if we are operating on that assumption..." seem to suggest what I'm thinking lol, but I'm not entirely sure), so I can see why you said what you said.
For the same $50 I know I sure as hell wouldn't.
If you got all of what a SILVER membership offers, and the ability to play online, then why would I pay?
if all i got was online play? nothing else, no cross game chat, no party chat, no voice chat at all, no cross game invites, no invites really....well I've just described psn for the most part...and no i wouldn't pay for it.
*I've still yet to figure out how to start a voice chat on psn*

That's because you don't play your PS3.

It seems the subtlety of my analogy is a bit lost on you. The online functionality of the PS3 was compared to the Driving capability of the car. All the other features of the car are the hardware of the PS3, so taking out things from the car that don't have anything to do with driving the car makes perfect sense. However, you hit the nail on the head about the flawed comparison thing. The whole point of my post was to point out how flawed his comparison was by making another comparison that is equally as flawed as his. It's called irony.I would buy a 360 right now if I didnt have to pay $50 to play online. Microsoft suckered a bunch of people this generation with their release date advantage. Theres no chance in hell theyll get away with it next generation.
360 owners will give you the usual "Ill pay for it if its worth it" but next generation, I bet my own left ass cheek theyll wait for a Playstation.

Even with everything the PS3 has lost its still such a better value then the 360 that's not even subjective or opinion.
