Hell no, I love my current job where I work 37 hours a week and all overtime is paied! Work in major bank in the equity and bond department..
Hard pass on working in the game industry...
1. Hardly any job security
2. Long hours and questionable overtime
3. Not a lot of appreciation
4. Tons of competition
No thank you. I’ll stick with applications development in the financial industry and play games for fun.
@drlostrib: I'm actually going into a game design program at the end of the year and asked some instructors about this. A lot of the perception that industry is unstable stems from the fact that employees intentionally job hop much more often than other industries.
Typically, at the end of a project, employees not wanting to dive right into developing another COD title, will leaving Activision and seek employment at studios that offer some diversity in their working life.
I would not. There is far too much compromise. It would frustrate me so much having the publishers force me to make the same game everyone else is making, force me to follow the dollar instead of trying to make the best game possibly. As soon as a developer becomes big, greed takes over.
I'm a seamstress right now and really wanna get out of in the industry and become a gaming journalist or game tester.
I hate sewing and doing all this crap I want games imo
