Yeah, I can see where people are coming from. It's good that I don't have to worry about paying for online on my PS3 or PC (and Wii, even though I don't play online on it) but spending such a small amount of money for the year's service on the 360 just doesn't bother me. It's half a days work for me, and for those who are higher up in the food chain, it'd be an hours work or less. It's nothing.
As for whether it should cost money or not is another question. It shouldn't, in my opinion. The PC has superior online services for free, and PSN is pretty much the exact same as Live minus the party system. I don't think you should have to pay for it, but I don't care that much either way because $50 per year is nothing.
So if it was $100 you would care? or $200? maybe $300?
What is your level of caring?
For me, getting riped off for $1 is the same as getting ripped off for $20,000.
Note: If you had XBLG from launch you may have paid up to and over $250. Something to think about.
That's exactly what I'm saying. I'd care if it was more money. The only way to play 360 online with others is for me to pay $50 a year. There's no way around that. Microsoft are making way too much money to stop it, so I may as well just slap down a $50 once a year and be done with it.
You must understand, I'm not justifying it. I pointed out earlier that the PC has superior online for free, and I think that Gold is essentially pretty poor value for money. What I'm saying is that I like being able to play my 360 online and paying 50 dollars annually is the only way to do it. I don't like it, but it's a small amount of money that isn't going to change my life.
As for being ripped off for $1 being the same as $20'000? I think you're talking crap to prove your argument. If you lose 1 dollar, it changes nothing. If you lost 20 grand, that would be a significant amount of your yearly salary that could set you back in debt payments or being able to afford groceries and bills.20 grand and 1 dollar are definitely not the same.
