Games with great traditions like Metorid and Zelda receiving 8.5 = FLOP
Heavenly Sword scoring .5 below franchises that are 20 years old makes it a flop?
Grow up
Face it. PS3 games are flopping pretty much every time they are released, with a few minor exceptions. The console is too expensive, and it has pretty much lost the widespread appeal of past playstation consoles. You can't even have rumble when playing PS2 games on it. What is the next flop for the PS3? Face it, the PS3 is NOT the same as the PS2, nor will it ever be. 2008 will be too late. Face it.accameron
can the 360 sell at 599 price point, without AAAs?

No. Games being hyped as almost-system sellers, AAA (i think I saw AAAA here before too), etc, getting the lowest AA possible == FLOP.
Comparing it to established games is meaningless.
Face the facts, HS flopped, and flopped hard.
Despite what the cows hyped it to be AAA.
8.0 = Great
There is no way around it.
But it's still a Flop acording to Lemmings.
I'll rent this game and enjoy it for what it is.
That is that.

Probably not. No one would buy it. That is why Sony is run by a bunch of amateurs and fools. Microsoft at least had the sense to NOT sell at a 599 price point, and to release it with AAAs. What is your point? There are no "what ifs" involved here.

Keep telling yourself that a new franchise that scored .5 below a 20 year old franchise due mainly to length is a flop. Keep telling yourself that.
i don't care if some people hyped a game to be AAA and it turns out to be AA i'm not going to consider an 8.0 game a flop. if it sells it an success. The hype crap is stupid and needs to be changed. really do people go around and say don't buy this game it flopped it only scored an 8.0. see how stupid that sounds. i don't care about what rules say it a dumb rule and makes fanboys stupid.jessie5788

You calling a system a flop is a hypothetical. The PS3 has strong sales, the PS3's games have strong sales... "FLOP" Is clearly subjective as you keep changing the definition around. The PS3 FLOPS when SONY gets out of the gaming business. Until then, perhaps you can save some money and buy multiple systems. Being broke must suck.

The Gamecube sold horribly last generation and it never "failed." To fail would mean to go the way of the Dreamcast. Something tells me that's not going to happen to the PS3.
Plus, I know other people have said it, but the PS3 will sell units this Holiday because of games like Ratchet and Clank, Unreal Tournament 3 and, possibly, HAZE and Uncharted. And... Whenever MGS4 drops, which is looking to be March of 2008, people who want to play it will buy a PS3. Maybe it will end up in 3rd place this gen. That's where Nintendo sat last gen, after leading for two straight generations. Now they're on top again, as far as sales are concerned.

of course not the 360 doesn't have the name or the reliability to sell at 599. There only one company that is bold enough and thats sony. and they are selling at that price with no games.

Ok. I will keep telling myself this. HS flopped. It flopped at lot. It scored at least a full point below its OFFICIAL HYPE. Doesn't matter how new the franchise is- Bioshock didn't seem to have this problem, did it? Wasn't it new? Yes, the more I think about it, HS flopped. It flopped a lot.

What's dumb and pointless is coming into System Wars and expect everyone to be nice and cheerful and what not. Get out of here if you can't handle the truth, which is in this case, another PS3 flop. Go to the PS3 forum if you don't like arguments and debate over which is the superior console.
I agree with the topic starter. This is no PS2. Far from it. It's such a sharp drop in quality from the PS2 it's just laughable.
However, BioShock is not an exclusive either, now, is it? I bought it, but I don't play it on a 360. I play it on my PC. Hmmm... imagine that.Ok. I will keep telling myself this. HS flopped. In response to this post: Good thing the PS3 isn't a movie or a tv show. TV shows that perform poorly usually get canceled, and movies that do bad in the box office disappear. The PS3's yet to do either.

Yo, that guy needs to brush up on his/ her console history. Look up Panasonic 3DO, Atari Lynx, Turbo Grafix 16, Sega Dreamcast and countless others. To say the PS3 is a flop is saying "im nine years old and havent been around long enough to see a flopped console". Have a nice day.

Sony claimed that it will destroy the 360 By September of 08? Interesting article. I'd love to read it sometime.
anyone who actually buys HS is a fool. why pay full price for a 6 hour game that has no replay value, no multiplayer, or anything else? pay 3-4 dollars and just rent it, take it back the next day, and forget about it.mtradr43Why not rent all games? if you are so broke?
I doubt HS is 6 hours of gameplay for a non-loser(most ps3 owners, you know.. people who can afford to spend $ on games & keep them because of how hard they work. Mostly home owners, no not PS3 home but real homes.) I mean, who gets a game.. sits down and plays it for 6 hours straight in 1 sitting? Even if you do.. Great.. you just spent 60 dollars for 6 hours of game play. The developers will surely make more content avaliable, but even if they dont.. Who cares? Its a game.. Hell the gaming industry wouldn't have survived if kids with nothing better to do sat down and beat Mario in one sitting. Or Mike Tysons Punchout..
I'm paying full price to support the developers, its a badass game. Same reason I buy CD's of artists I like vs downloading illegal Mp3s. Same reason I buy movie tickets vs downloading.

Please explain this more. I don't seem to understand what you are getting at by saying that "Fanboys follow. gamers lead" stuff.
Your thread is a perfect example. You bash a game because of one persons review on this website.. You follow the reviewers score as gospel. I will admit, i was a original NES fanboy in the "80"s but soon grew out of one system and embraced others. A gamer can care less what any person rating of a game is other than his own. Gamers that have played games for years know that the only reviewer score that matters is theirs. Its selfish, but thats being a gamer, we only care about what is fun to us. We don't have fun bashing everything, we have fun playing everything. Most of all, gamers don't ever put much faith in one mans opinion regarding a game. Have a nice day!
I know everything here is based on gamespot review score only and hype some people on this forum gave it but for those with a little more concern on their evaluation of games : Good start for a new franchise award ? Check. Outstanding visual design award ? Check. Sharp Control award ? Check. Technically proficient graphics award ? Check. Terrific voice acting award ? Check. Only real shortcoming ? The shortness of the game. So oustanding artistic design helped by technically proficient graphic, very good gameplay, all that coupled with terrific voice acting to bring the game to life = flop ? Only by superficial SW standards. So I'm done, continue on your little system wars game. *Goes back to bioshock*.Killer_Cyborg
All this is wrong. Sorry. If fans of the game said it would be AAAA and its not, that means its a total failure. Despite of what professional reviewers say.

some games are not really rentable if you want to get all you can out of it. regardless of your wealth, it doesnt take a mensa scholar to know what is and isnt a waste of money. you can go to blockbuster and rent the game for a week or gamefly or whatever and do everything you can do, get rid of it, and then save the money for a more worthy purchase.

Halo 3 isnt better than bioshock and not better than metroid but on par. so i think halo 3 should get 8.5 from gamespot. that should be there score in regards to those two games.

Read this, since you had trouble reading it the first time. I BUY THE GAME TO SUPPORT THE DEVELOPERS. The same way I go see movies I like vs downloading. The same way I buy CD's vs downloading them.
I feel sorry for you if you think worthiness comes out of any "videogame" purchase. Its a game system, its for entertainment. MUCH like a strip club or vegas. Its not an investment. I understand that halobois have invested every single dime into their 360's. This is why we see the constant "OHAHW! You wasted 600 dollars on a ps3!!" Wasted? Correct me if I'm wrong but the 360+HDDVD Player and a few games is 600 dollars. If the PS3 owner and the 360 Owner are both happy with their purchases, then who wasted money? In terms of spending money.. Both idiots wasted money, since it could have been invested.
Investments aren't made into consoles. The only thing invested into consoles are ego's.

You are missing the point of his post. Most people with lives and responsibility do not have the time to sit down and beat a game in one sitting, or even a week. It often takes me weekS, or months to beat a game. It took me a while to beat Gears the first time, and that game isn'tvery long.I can only play it a little bit at a time because I have other things to take care of. For people like myself, and the gentleman you quoted, it makes sense to buy it because we can play it whenever we have time, and it isn't going anywhere. What sense does it make to rent a game, and then you are super busy that week, so could only play it for an hour or 2. Then you have to return it, and try renting it again.
Wil4hire made one of the very few good posts on SW's. I totally agree with him.
