wow I just realized stalker is quite an overrated game graphically speaking...

I remember that clear sky looked amazing to me when I first saw it, with the max illumination and all, and that it took one hell of a pc to run it.

but Im kind of dissapointed now that I have COP, everything, and I mean everything, maxed, and it still looks like a cheap game...crappy textures, guns look like they are made from cardboard, trees are bland, sky and clouds are completly static, barely any light diiffumination while looking at the sun from behind a tree, characters dont look really good either.

I took a couple of screenshots...seriously this looks like a 2006 game

All STALKER games have Complete, even CoP. Install it because it makes it look so much better.

Oh, and I could stand around in the same spot and take pictures while turning around too. Every game has uglies.

Was there ever any paid mod?

Yeah,the starting spot isn´t exactly very good looking,but keep playing and it gets much better.

Stalker CoP is an open world game, so you can imagine that they had to make some sacrifices to make it run better. Indeed Clear Sky looks far better, but a lot of the effects and such in Clear Sky are terribly optimized.

Thats looks pretty bad if its truely maxed out its a downgrade from clear sky albeit I used various graphics mods. From having played clear sky and shadow of chernobyl the stalker games look great the art style really appeals to me and it nails the post appolytic settings perfectly imo in graphics and incredible athmosphere. nelow are picks of clear sky which is suppose to be the best looking.

Stalker-cop doesn't look good especially in the first area, even with mods i don't thing is going to look much better. But Stalker cs look significant better especially with the mod.

Strangely i've found STALKER more entertaining than most FPS's this gen even tho i've not really played them much since i got a laptop :(

I'm not a PC gamer, but I have a friend who has a good rig. I think Stalker is a really impressive game, graphics and all.

To be honest the Stalker games never really had good graphics in my opinion. People keep saying that it is one of the top best looking games (Some like to say that it is just below the first Crysis)but man there are way better looking pc games then this. The first one didn't look that good and while it came out around 2007, even for it's time it didn't look that good. Don't get me wrong it was a good game and all but the graphics were always overrated. Even the sequels that came out after it don't look that good ether.

The thing is, Stalker has all the graphical features except that their art direction and texture work is awful. ocstew

I understand how some hate the art direction. It's very realistic - I live in the Eastern Bloc and it's amazing how they captured the look and feel of communist architecture.

But to call their texture work awful is madness.

Stalker's art direction is amazing. Maybe it's more appealing to Europeans, but it totally manages to capture the post-Soviet vibe.

STALKER looks better than that, you have the game on medium/low. I also love how subtle and crisp the game looks; no overdone fake atmosphere with too much bloom, motion blur, fog or whatever. Also they actually make night time pitch black, not like most games at night that look like a cloudy winter afternoon.

The thing I really like about the game is the lighting and sky. Seriously, the sky looks so amazing. And the lighting is some of the best ever.

I liked the first Stalker, played it without any mods. I got really far in the game, but at one point i gave up the game was freaking me out a little bit lol there were some scary parts in the game. Now i do have Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat didnt get to play them yet im downloading Clear Sky Complete mod will start with this game and then Pripyat. I love these guys that make these games, they are from my hometown in Ukraine (im in US now) so i support them because they have talent.
