I got the 399 ps3 last friday, and I've been looking forward to Uncharted for a while... until i played the demo. The platforming is absolutely atrocious, and the shooting mechanics, while not bad, arent even close to as much fun as gears. Everything just doesnt flow well. The rolling and getting into cover are horrible. Positives: The graphics are drop dead gorgeous. Not sure if they're better than gears, but Im pretty sure its harder to render foliage than buildings, so theyre A++ in my book. AI: The enemies react super realistically. Melee: Melee attacks feel solid The game could be epic, but the platforming is just plain boring (and I like platformers, it just feels stiff and stale) and stiff controls make it a mehhh. peterrobau
100% truth I feel the same.
Why do you think that getting into cover and rolling is horrible? And I found the controls to be very smooth, what do you mean by stiff?IbacaiRolling worked alright, but the cover was just messed up. I dont know if you played Gears, but maybe im spoiled. In gears, you just kind of seamlessly slide into cover. In Uncharted you have to walk right up to the wall and then press O. I dunno, it was just kind of clunky. But you do have to admit that the platforming was extremely lackluster. It was just basically walking up to a boulderish wall and pressing jump to climb up to a ledge.

That's what I hate about Uncharted.
[QUOTE="Udsen"][QUOTE="JiveT"][QUOTE="Udsen"]I thought it was excellent. :|JiveT
You I find hard to believe.
Why? :D
I think you are leaving something out. Something you don't want to share with us that peterrobau did.
Nah, there were some lacking parts to the demo but it was fun and challenging. I enjoyed it very much.

Tapping the O button works fine for me, as does the Gears cover. I guess the difference doesn't affect me much (So personal opinion for me). I also though that rolling between cover and not breaking it was a nice touch (Not innovative but a nice touch to this game). As for the platforming, no I didn't have a problem with it. From the videos we've seen we haven't even gotten to the wall scaling, vine swinging stuff yet. So while what the demo showed was basic (I wouldn't say lackluster) it isn't all that we'll be getting come launch. So while I understand what you're saying I don't really agree.
I played the demo after a 3-hour COD4 binge, and I thought it was really fun. The shooting is great, you can change your firing position while standing. Headshots actually count, and the AI is pretty agrresive. Those guys just can't wait to flank me or throw grenades.Mordred19
I thought the AI was fantastic. It gave me a real sense of happiness when I headshotted them.

Same here. I did think the AI was superb, I just didnt like the demo overall. I don't know if you ever played MGS or KS but they did the same exact cover system that Gears copied off of years ago.
Why do people always act like Gears invented the cover system?

Dude MGS cover system is nothing like gears you are way off with that one. KS is pretty close but gears is better.[QUOTE="sakura_Ex"]Rolling worked alright, but the cover was just messed up. I wish Gamespot would just post the review so that all this mud-slinging would stop.trizzle_a
I heard Aaron Thomas is reviewing Uncharted.

I'm not even a cow and I'd be mad if he flopped it. The demo is so damn sexy! :)
Why is the OP comparing this to Gears anyway? From what I can tell, they two games with different styles.

Cows have been waiting for the day to say a game dethrones Gears, even though they look completely different. It happened with Lair, R&C: ToD, and Heavenly Sword. Just like they used to always hype everything as a Halo killer.

I don't believe you one bit. Even the hardcase GS reviewers loved this game. To quote GS...
Uncharted's opening level offers a taste of what Uncharted seems to be offering in abundance--an enjoyable action adventure with intuitive controls backed up by a compelling storyline. The cover system works quite well, and it's clear right off the bat that taking intelligent cover will be an extremely important skill to master in Uncharted. While hand-to-hand combat seems well implemented, it looks like something which gamers will use mostly as a last resort, as even in this opening level opponents would often block attacks (not to mention leaving Nathan open to gunfire from other enemies). And even in this opening level, the strength of the story, characters, and the writing shines through. For example, when Nathan tries to convince Elena to fight the pirates instead of fleeing, he uses the line: "These guys don't take prisoners--well, at least male prisoners."
But probably what's most impressive are the graphics and animations in Uncharted. Simply put, the game looks great, with plenty of fine detail littering the gameworld and the characters. Animations are also quite lifelike--pirates flinch and bob their heads when under fire, while Nathan sports a wide range of realistic-looking movements.Ramsay the previewer
It takes a lot for a PS3 game to impress the gamespot staff. so I must call out...

Easily one of the best shows ever.
Because after playing Gears, which essentially perfected the cover system, Uncharted just feels clunky. I dont know if you've played gears before, but if you have, youll know exactly what I mean. Gears is just sooo fluid and works perfectly. However, Gears had a crap story so maybe Uncharted will be better there, and maybe the platforming will add something to the game. Im not being a hater- I have a freaking ps3. I just think that after Gears, the cover controls just seem wonkyWhy is the OP comparing this to Gears anyway? Actually its not that BS^Its cause they have similar gameplay thats why TC compared them.
oh, and one more thing.. the "cows" are soooo defensive. I dont get it. Why cant someone have a negative opinion about a ps3 game without being "wrong"... I mean, cows, who im pretty sure have never played Halo bash it all the time. Im saying that I HAVE A PS3 and I WANTED THE GAME TO BE GOOD, but it just didnt do it for me. peterrobau
You know damn right if anyone says anything negative but constructive about Halo 3 all the 360 fans would, and do go ape **** It's both ways. Seems like the fanatics are running SW though, unfortunetly. I love having a good, normal argument.

Thats the problem then is because with gears of war u get caught up with the same thing while in cover. With Uncharted its different like the devs said, everytime u take cover, the positioning of drake is always different making it more real where drake doesnt do everything perfect. I think it felt real smooth and awesome playing the demo, and I would die alot just because of how amazing the game looked, I caught myself just walking around and checking out the scenery asking myself, how in the hell did naughty dog do this on my ps3. The game looks that damn good. Ill ask my cousin for her camera so I can show u some dead gorgeous screens of this game running on my 42 inch LCD in 1080p. I guarantee u will be like, "Woww" just like the person who reviewed this game and gave it a 9.5
Well off to play COD4, cya. :)
