So this guy said he was very dissappointed with Activision for dropping support for dedicated server and proud of DICE for keeping dedicated servers.
So check out what he did!
I would say that's kinda going too far but what does SW think?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Otherwise he'd be giving $60 to Activision (a multi-million dollar company), and in return get a disc with a modded CoD4. I'm not really sure either is a smart move. At least DICE knows what they're doing and makes quality titles. Can't say the same for IW since CoD2...the 1st word that comes to mind is "fool"
giving 60 dollars towards a multi million dollar company just because hes mad at activision...LOL! what a fail

Haha that is absolutely awesome. I don't think he went too far at all; he's just showing his support for a dev that didn't give him the shaft. More people should have the balls to do this.
Dice: "im pleased to say that we at DICE put that money to good use. thanks for the support"
Back in the office: "Yo Jim! order some pizza, its on me"
 Pretty much! Money well spent I say!Dice: "im pleased to say that we at DICE put that money to good use. thanks for the support"

This is what i have been promoting.
Get MW2 for free, and pay the money to a dev that is worth it.
I am very happy with this development.

lmao. but yeah sometimes i feel the need to use them too. I think they should be common words.[QUOTE="Cherokee_Jack"]He used a smiley in a letter? How old is he?Cyberfairy

Key words: text message. This was a letter.Bravo. Unless there is some serious apology and turn around, myself and many other pc gaming enthusiasts will not be buying any infinity ward game ever. Whatever profit they get they will not have ours... this is a trend that must be stopped before it is started, developers need to develop for the satisfaction of the gamer, not just lean on their big name franchise.
Damn you guys who are making fun of him are haaaters.
Who cares, it's 60 bucks. He wants to support Dice in the best way possible. Dice has been acting very good towards it's PC base. It's not about the money really but about the message, the 60 bucks he was going to put towards MW2 is now being put towards BC2 development instead. It's the principle of the thing, and Dice getting more and better PR will help with the sales of the game.
I agreed initially, but it is nice to finally see someone put their money where their mouth was and stand up for a cause, even as one as "silly" as a video game.the 1st word that comes to mind is "fool"

Cmon, dont be hating. Its his money after all. If he wants to use it to make fun of Activision, good for him.

The consumer is generally not the person who demands dedicated servers in the PC version of a game.
IW has no obligation to make their games according to the demands of a small percentage of consumers.

I'm guessing you're one of the people that think health care companies shouldn't make medicine that isn't profitable, correct?
Why in the world wouldn't you want game companies to develop for gamer satisfaction? You're a gamer. Stop caring about their stocks and sales. You should AGREE with what the first guy said, you should want the developers to cater to gamer needs in every way possible.

Being a gamer does not mean we ignore the fact that these are businesses. And no, if you want pharma companies to make drugs for a loss, you should be the first in line to support government funding of phramas, since a business is not going to do something that causes them to lose money, and I would not expect them to.No, they need to develop for the satisfaction of the consumer because they need to make a game that sells. I want that. I didn't say that I didn't. But I have no illusion that companies need to make their products according to my (rather unrealistic) expectations, because I'm in a small minority of their consumer base.

They release the game on the PC, than PC gamers are a group of their consumers. And you are quite naive if you think they are a small group. Not only are they a good sized group, but PC Gamers tend to hang their hat on one game for years, which means lots of DLC content that will be bought long after people on console stop caring and move on to the next Fad/hype game. Also the moding done by PC Gamers leads to innovations in the industry. The sprint function for example was first developed in a mod.
The idea that the average PC gamer is a hardcore gamers is as much a fallacy as the idea that most console gamers are hardcore gamers. Most gamers are casual, on all the platforms, and it is not the casuals who are complaining about the dedicated servers. They release the game on the PC, than PC gamers are a group of their consumers. Could be drunk judging by the hand writing. :P Buying BC2 should be enough support I think, dedicated servers don't actually cost the dev much on PC since I think it's mostly the community providing them, dunno how it's with the console servers. Still, if you've got the money why not, it's not like donations for something you care about is a new thing.
Edit
Also there's always a chance the PC version could be pushed back, or ported poorly, it's the first PC game using that engine, could end up like GTA4 or something. I'd like to see his face if that happens.

But are all PC gamers, or a large percentage of PC gamers, going to refuse to buy MW2 on PC because it doesn't have dedicated servers?
Apparently IW doesn't think so. We'll see if they're right.

Yea but you guys shouldn't accept it like it's nothing, as if it's a standard rule. I understand reality and I know developers are less likely to cater to hardcore gamers because we're in the minority, but that doesn't mean we can't complain and moan about it until they do something about it. If nobody complained about Wii's awful E3 a couple years ago I guarentee you we wouldn't be seeing lots of Nintendo games for 2010.
This guy sending money to BC2 is his way of standing against what Infinity Ward and other developers are doing. Instead of complaining and moaning he's giving money to the dev's who care about what PC gamers want. That's 100% a good thing. I know big businesses are around to make a profit, but that doesn't mean we should allow them to do tons of BS at our expense, it has to be a tug and pull situation so the consumer and business keep each other equal.

You implied that by assuming that PC gamers, as a group, demand dedicated servers for PC games. Only hardcore gamers care about dedicated servers. Please Log In to post.
