X1 Rocket League wont have crossplay because Microsoft

So at the game awards it was announced that Rocket League would finally make it's way to the X1, which is all well and lame

but even more lame, is that apparently it wont allow crossplay

On twitter the devs were asked if it would have crossplay with PS4 or PC

The Xbox platform doesn't allow for crossplay matchmaking between other systems as a general practice across all titles.

So boo to microsoft and their policies

Another example of this policy is seen with FFXIV which doesn't appear on X1

There was also some rumor that the lack of crossplay may have played a role in SFV not coming to X1

Yet they brag about the integration between PC and Xbox One.

I never understood not letting people who are playing the same game on different platforms not play against each other. I can kind of understand why some wouldn't want to play with PC players and that's cool, but the option should be there. Bigger community, your game will last longer.

Given that this is Microsoft we're talking about, it should come to no surprise.

Is this because they don't want to share servers with PlayStation users? Or would the net code on the PlayStation side interfere with the Xbox One online experience? Those are the only reasons I can think of for why they might have that policy.

If the publishers/developers have their own servers though, this is a dumb protocol. Why not open up and make the game more active online? Wouldn't that drive a better overall community and increase sales of both platforms?

Yeah they've had that policy for a long time now. But it's weird because aren't Fable Legends & Killer Instinct supposed to have cross-play between xbox one & PC? Unless they just don't allow cross-play with third party titles or something.

It changed this gen, but online gaming was free on PSN last gen.

This gen, Microsoft was pretending that all their games run on a "dedicated server" (When it was just the game files that are on a dedicated server like all DD platforms), so Xbone dudes are gonna chimp-out if they're playing on the same server as PS4 players.

It's the illusion of quality. Microsoft has no quality, but is good at marketing inferior crap look like the gold-standard.

SONY is more silent about their superior quality, but their quality is unmatched.

If true, that is utter bullshit.. At the minimum, if the developer is willing, there should be cross-play between PC and Xbox One..

In general, cross-play with PS4 and Xbox One would be absolutely awesome and way overdue imo but that is another conversation entirely.. Shame on Microsoft if they blocked PC cross play when thats supposed to be an advantage of the Win10/DX12 combined ecosystem anyway..

the problem is xbox is segregated by live services, so if it was on PC you'd need to use a live account, and I imagine that will come in their next incarnation of gfwl2.

People constantly downplay what M$ has done on live. VoIP, matching (skill based match making they sunk a lot of money into), I think their are seperate dedicated servers for these things. Basically you want to play with xbox owners you need a live account to do so. Which require live integration into the game somehow.

I laugh as I remember console games getting destroyed by pc gamers in crossplay games, or even worse in mmos pc users refusing to pay with console players, I ferment fondly in ff11 pc users the first question asked was are you on console.

You couldn't hope to keep up or communicate like pc players in final fantasy online.

That's true, but then there would be complications on the PC side of things I'd wager. Since the matchmaking (assuming the game has matchmaking) would have to choose between either XO or PS4. Probably easier for the dev to just leave it out altogether on the XO version, which sucks.
