Why would anybody use third party storage devices? Why would anybody need it, 360 comes with a ton of memory, and the HDDs as well. I didn't even know there were third-party storage devices.enterawesome
Wow... what is up with lemmings? If Sony did this, ps gamers would be furious.... why is it that playstation gamers will ask Sony to change things up, but Lemmings seem to always be "Yes men" anything MS does is ok with them , even if it means limiting their freedom, you get responses like this guy.. "Why would anyone need 3rd party storage, 360 comes with tons of memory"... yeah ok, keep on beilving that.... or is there not enough content to fill your 20 or 60gb drives? Either there is not enough content or you are full of it. I bought a 40gb ps3 last year within 2 months I had the HD maxed out with game demos, Downloads, movies, music, home, updates, ps1 games, psn games, psp games, Qore, I quckly went and bought a 320gb hd for $60 yeah.... and that only has 95gb left... I can also put any 3rd party 2.5 in hd in and add as many 3rd party external usb drives as i want.. Storage is needed. 360 comes with paltry low storage space, so stop defending M$, criticize them for once and maybe they will see just how bad they are and maybe it will lead to change... but you couldn't do that no could you?

This is bad huh? How about when a console maker releases a new system where you have to re-buy all your hardcopy game via digital format in order to play them on said new system? MS is trying to carve out the pirates. Sony just flat our screwed over everyone who invested into the PSP for the last 4 years.

Demetri_OS
No , the psp-go is an option, it's not the psp2, it's an alternative to the psp3000 you don't have to buy it, the psp3000 is still supported and they bring new bundles every few months for the 3000. You can still buy the same games for both, still use the download service for both.... if you buy the psp go , then you would know that there is no umd drive...and if you complain about that then you were stupid for buying it. PSP3000 and PSPGo both can get the same games... you can get 16gb mem sticks for the 3000 and download form the store plus use your umds... THE PSP GO IS AN ALTERNATIVE NOT A REPLACEMENT....JEESH!!!! And this psp comparison has nothing to do with M$, is it that you have no real argument that you have to bring the psp in to this to try to distract the real issue at hand? MS is limiting people in a big way.. MY friend is an avid xbox supporter but lately he has seen the ps3 in a new light. He is tired of dealing with these stringent restrictions. You should be able to use any compatable hd and network adapter. You can't though ms wants to be the monopoly on that and charge outragous prices. You can get a 1terrabyte (1000gb) drive for a few dollars more than the 360's 120gb hd on the ps3... It is stupid for ms to be doing this. Sony was smart here...giving people people the option oh HD means people will have more space , more space === more purchases on the downloads... it's simple economics...

I can't speak for every 360 owner so I'll only speak for myself.. I purchased the 360 5 months after it's launch.. so in essence, I've had the 360 for close to 4 years. In that 4 yr time frame I've downloaded countless demos, I've downloaded a few addons (Oblivion, Fable II) and I have about 8 XLA games not to mention 1 XB game.. That with a little bit of music I have and I still have 4 gigs left. :| Now I understand the "supergamer" who DL any and everything and probably has 1mb left on their HDD, but if after 4 yrs I can still have 4 gigs left.. I can't see myself getting upset by this. I'm sure that in the next year I'll most likely need to upgrade (to perhaps a 60 gig) but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

They are pretty cheap on ebay and craigslist, I upgraded from 20 to a 120 for $40.Blixxed
I've come to realize that despite gamers being tech savvy, they are like senior citizens when it comes to buying stuff online. The bulk of them still feel like anything purchased online will be broken or you'll get a box that only has a rock in it. You'll never convince them that buying something from eBay or Craigslist will result in anything other than catastrophe.

It is a closed platform, and MS does not want unauthoried devices used with its system. Hence unauthorized. If you are using unauthorized things with anything, it is always caveat emptor.

I have a basic question, the only "unauthorized" memory unit i use with my xbox 360 is a usb flash drive. it is how i transfer music, movies, tv shows, etc. onto my 360.

will flash drives be considered "unauthorized"?

does microsoft even make a xbox 360 brand flash drive?

whats the point of having 2 usb ports in the front then?

It's called fanboyism.. These same gamers are the ones spouting about how you can build a gaming PC with $2.50 a toothpick and some bubblegum.. But as soon as you mention the 360 it's TEH TOO EXPENSIVE!!! 80% of the services/addons I bought for the 360 were at a discounted price.

Bussiness is bussiness right, besides everyone sorta wins considering MS gets more money, you guys don't havet to depend on 3rd party hardware. Good Deal.....

Those "number" of consumers are probably pirates and modders.

? What difference does that make? Seriously, support the company all you want but, blaming other people is not right. Blocking 3rd party support is what Microsoft does best.

It is a closed platform. That is what consoles are. If you want to use unauthorized add ons, you take the risk of them becoming incompatible unsupported. Ninty did the same thing with the unauthorized USB to Ethernet adapter that was available before the Ninty version was.

My first HDD was a dodgy one I got off ebay which didn't play original xbox games so I think that was highly likely to have been a knock off :?, I have had a 120gb for a year now though so no worries. I have however filled my 120gb hdd to the point where I now have 4gb left :| its a disgusting price for such a small amount of storage space if you ask me.

I can respect that, but like I said, unauthorized is the key word. Buy licenses add ons for your systems or you risk them not working.

It's actually quite easy, I've only had mine for about 7 or 8 months and it's near 100 GB. Mostly DLC, and quite a few arcade titles.

As long as there are no game saves or games on them they will be fine.

You assume too much. I would be angry at Sony for such thing but reality is ,its MS that is limiting success of third party companies and is selling over priced accesories.

[QUOTE="Cookigaki"]Besides, most of you won't even fill up a quarter gb.SpinoRaptor24

Not true. We've seen map packs, expansions and other types of content only available via DL, and most of them are well over 100mb.

My 20GB HDD is nearing its limit and with some upcoming DLC I have to download, I might need to purchase a larger HDD.

wouldn't it be great if you could buy 500gb for the same price as 60gb? or even 160gb for under half the price of the ms 60gb.
